Hi everyone. Following on from comments earlier on in the summer, the Trust have decided to upload the programme notes from our Supporters Elected Representative, David Linnell. Obviously we can't upload these before the programmes are on sale, as it isn't fair to those who purchase programmes. However they will be uploaded as soon as possible after every home match.

Another Campaign Commences

I am just commencing my 54th season as a Cobblers supporter and this one is no different to many that I have experienced over the years. We start off with a team assembled by Gary Johnson of players of his choosing in addition to a small but important nucleus from the team last season.
Inevitably the gloom and doom merchants have already told everybody that, in the words of Corporal Frazer, ‘we’re doomed’. This being before a ball is kicked. But in that famous season under Graham Carr we never won a pre-season game  – and that last Saturday we beat newly promoted Wycombe with the team playing well.

I have never especially rated pre-season results over all those seasons because in reality these are warm up games to get the team playing as a unit rather than 11 individuals. We have signed some exciting players, some well known to us such as Bayo Akinfenwa (welcome back big man) and others that we know from playing against us such as Robinson, Turnbull and Davies; plus our two latest arrivals from Austria. We can be assured that Gary will have these players playing in the style which will suit the fixture and sometimes we may have to win ugly. As in every season points will be priceless and the quicker we get some on the table the better.

I look forward to the new season with great optimism – see you on the terraces.

Hi everyone. The latest Trust notes from the Wolves programme have been uploaded for you.

Notes with David Linnell, Supporters Elected Representative, from Wolves Programme

Three steps forward and one back

The 2-1 away defeat at Bristol Rovers last week was a blow. The team did not really compete in the first half but made a better fist of things in the second half.

I think we all understand that the team will take a while to settle down and injuries are not helping us to form a settled side. We all know that settled sides are more successful, usually because players are all attuned to the same wavelength. I am sure that our team will do this sooner rather than later.

We were not exactly helped at Bristol Rovers by losing Paul Turnbull to injury in the first half, and our younger players Ashley Corker and Nana are playing well despite being on a sharp learning cruve against teams such as Bristol Rovers who set out with a fixed game plan.

I think we deserved a point but a fluke goal decided it in the end. It was nice to see Bayo off the the mark (more please big man!), and it is always an education to hear Paul Buckle's post match comments. Once again I wondered if he had been at the same game as the BBC Radio Northampton team.

In tonights game we are in the second round of the competition that we did well in last season with big team scalps being taken. Beating Ipswich away from home in the first round this season was very creditable, and I look forward to the duel with Mick McCarthy's men this evening.

We should be under no illusion that whatever team Wolves put out, Mick will have them fired up for the game. I hope and expect our boys will go out and play with the flair and confidence that they did at Ipswich - if they do that they need fear no-one.

See you on the terraces...

David Linnell

Car Boot Sales

Our next Car Boot Sale will take place on Sunday 4th September so as to avoid a clash with the England U17 international the previous Sunday.

We still need volunteers for the sales to help us run them and even if you can only spend a couple of hours it will assist.

Either e-mail me at david.linnell@ntfctrust.co.uk or Roger Averill at roger.averill1@btinternet.com.
