Following on from the 'Non League Teams' thread and to stop the randomness and intrusiveness of my related posts I have started this thread:
I will keep the board updated on my local team Borussia Monchengladbach.
You can 'adopt' an overseas team and keep us updated on its progress or otherwise throughout the season.

Pre Season match v Liverpool yesterday, 1-0 to Borussia.  Typical pre-season match.  Cole, Gerrard, Johnson and Carragher played. Torres (injured), Reina and Kuyt didn't.
Liverpool finished with a completely different eleven to those that started.
51,500 crowd saw/heard Gerry Marsden sing YNWA live in the centre circle before the start. Not bad for a friendly.
Pity that the only crowd gaps were in the Liverpool area, but then again their Giro's probably don't stretch to two away European matches in a week?

Was going to report on SC Paderborn but no longer local so seems pointless.as anyone can look up results instead of attending games. BM Gladbach`s ground looks fantastic from the outside, favourite has to be Dortmunds.awesome atmosphere.Your based in Rhinedahlen i take it?

Yes, in Rheindahlen.
Used to be up near Paderborn, they have a nice new ground now as well.
I will be at Dortmund on Wednesday to watch them play Man City.  Wink
Hopefully they put on a better show than the Scousers. Roll Eyes

Talking of German football,Have you been to Hamburg to watch the mighty FC St Pauli? heard the atmosphere is incredible for such a modest stadium.

Newly promoted and favourites to go back down, haven't been but they are down here on the weekend of the 21/22 Sep.
They are a 'different' team especially their supporters.
Based near the Reeperbahn, must be a good venue for any away fans!!  Tongue

Too many other oddities to mention but see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FC_St._Pauli

I look forward to seeing them in September.

Forgot to mention that I was at the Borussia Dortmund/Man City friendly on Wednesday night(4th Aug).  Dortmund were full strength whilst City were missing four of their first choice players (Tevez and Silva to name two and Mancini due to fathers health). Good game first half, helped by the sudden ten minute burst of rain prior to kick-off, with the sides going in 1-1 from a Dortmund penalty and a Jo equaliser.
Unfortunately the flurry of substitutions throughout the second half spoilt it as a football spectacle.  Why they don't do all their changes at half time I cannot understand!  Roll Eyes
Both sides finished with almost a completely different side to that which started.
Joe Hart started and saved a penalty with Shay Given playing the second half.
Final score 3-1 to Dortmund but the full strength first half was easily dominated by Man City, SWP was very lively with very good support from the right back Micah Richards.

Although the stadium reminded me of the old Wembley in it's concrete construction it has an over 80,000 capacity stadium and the 31,500 attendance looked a bit sparce, but the home end (SudTribune) looked impressive.  It is the largest standing terrace in Europe (nearly 24,500 capacity).  All standing in a German Health and Safety cleared environment.  It can be done.  Shocked

I had decent seat behind and just above the bar of the north end goal, but having previously been at the stadium during a Liverpool Champions League match and seated four from the back of an end stand the viewing is restricted to yellow and red coloured ants on the pitch. So yes, a big capacity, but I wouldn't want another one of those 'altitude with oxygen' seats.  Tongue

I always look out for the results of Bochum. Relegated last season and no doubt they'll come back again this year followed by another relegation, blah blah blah. I went to watch them a few years ago at home to Bayer Leverkusen. 2-2 on a Friday night. Next day I went to watch Dortmund win in Cologne 1-0. I subscibed to ESPN last season just to watch the Bundesliga.

I walked passed the St.Pauli ground when i was in Hamburg a couple of years ago. It looks a complete **** hole but one where i'd quite like to go and watch a football match. Plenty of pubs and entertainment in close proximity.

I recently did a tour of the Allianz Arena in Munich which was an unbelievable venue.

I'm planning on going out to Germany in October to watch some football. Do you the Bundesliga play games on both days of the weekend like the premiership? it would be good if i could fit two games in.

There's usually a couple of games on a Friday night. A full fixture list of a Saturday and few games on a Sunday. You could do 3 games in a weekend.

Deepcut, Thanks for the update. I look forward to reading more as I have a recently found appreciation of the Bundesliga.

I went to a Hamburg game last season and loved the German matchday experience. I am keen to see another game and was hoping for a recommendation from you.

The key criteria is:

easy to get game tickets
decent local nightlife (fpr a group of 30ish year old males)
direct flights from UK (which I can reserach once I have your opinions on the others)

Thanks in advance

Poggy,
Apart from one mid week match all of the Bundesliga matches are scheduled for weekends, the match dates are programmed for the Fri, Sat or Sun each weekend and the date and time is only confirmed 3 or 4 weeks beforehand (TV related).  The order you play the first half (17) matches are mirrored in the same order for the second half after the three week mid-season break (Dec-Jan).
All matches for the last two weekends of the season start on the Saturday at 1530hrs.

Tiki-Taka,

I would recommended Borussia Monchengladbach although not for a Bayern or Koln (Cologne) match as they are already sold out.
Standing or sitting with or without bier and brattie, the choice would be yours.. Wink
Tell me what you are after and I will advise on tickets etc..
Dusseldorf Alt Stadt (20 minutes from MGB) for a challenge to start at one end and attempt to remember (if) your finish at the other.... Grin
Cheap Ryan Air to Dusseldorf Weese or Air Berlin into Dusseldorf International.
Trains between locations are relatively cheap, clean, on time and if you have a ticket for the match, the public trains and busses are free to/from the game....  Wink

I went to the Amsterdam Arena on Saturday for the Ajax game. 21 euro's for an upper tier ticket (seemed to take forever walking up the steps).

Great night out.

First match of the new Bundesliga season last Saturday (21st Aug) and Borussia Monchengladbach known as the Fohlens (Foals) were at home to Nurnberg in 30 degree heat.
Just over 42,000 saw the points shared after Nurnberg took the lead on 15.  New signing, Mo Idrissou (Morocco) equalised on 31 by beating a couple of players and putting the ball in the far right corner.  End to end play, which considering the heat, was goods to watch.  Idrissou could have won the game second half when, following an attack, he was strolling back in an 'offside' position he let the ball dribble through to the Nurnberg keeper.  Unfortunately he didn't realise that their right back was injured and playing him onside down by the corner, it would/should have been an easy one-on-one.
After 1 game, in ninth position, expecting a lower half relegation affected season but we can live in hope.  Bayer Leverkusen away this Sunday against Michael Ballack's new team, don't expect any points especially after their 2-0 away win in Dortmund last weekend but we will see.  Wink

Surprised or what?

30,000 full house saw The Fohlens beat Bayer Leverkusen away 6-3....we were 4-1 and 5-2 up so their comeback had us at twitchy bum time..... Cool

Ballack was annonymous.

Just drawn them again at home in the DFB Cup 2nd round so they will be looking for revenge I will assume.. Roll Eyes

Just a bit, but we are only two games in, I still believe that we will be bottom half though.
