If you lose every game 5-0 its relegation, if you lose every game just 1-0, same result. We need to win some games 5-4, 4-3 or just plain old 1-0 will do on Saturday. We need goals every bit as much as a tight defence at the moment.

18 stars 18 matches left 17 players + Aidy = a team of 18 Northampton Town FC + N+O+R+T+H+A+M+P+T+O+N+T+O+W+N+F+C = 18 It's in the stars that we will finish 18th in the table come the end of the season

Nah, I'm just daft all the time I even told it to Aidy this afternoon Besides it's not G&T for me it's Vodka (good quality only) with just a dash of orange (must be cordial not juice) to colour it for me

Interestingly GJ and AB both have 10 goal for in the 9 games used.
I'm not trying to antagonise people on here with non-anti GJ posting. My argument is that a manager is a skilled job, but like all other similar jobs I reckon the difference between GJ and AB is marginal. They all do the job and to claim GJ is completely useless and AB is utterly brilliant simply misunderstands how football works.
The fawning loyalty to AB is uncomfortably similar to the joy and subsequent expectations when GJ joined. He's the not the messiah, just a good lower league manager.

Totally agree. In the final analysis, the similarities between GJ and the Messiah bloke from Nazareth are striking...both blew a lot of hot air..and went on to be crucified!

It's got to be said though that he's got a lot more class than Johnson. His lacking in that area instigated his downfall here IMO; he made it very hard for anybody to really like him and therefore get behind him when the going got tough.

That's an interesting point, GJ has always been known to be media savvy, a sort of Ian Holloway Lite, but it does seem as if these skills deserted him at The Cobblers. I remember towards the end Geoff Doyle saying something like despite the walls crashing around him he remained a likeable and approachable chap. I must be the only person on here that felt sorry for him when he got the inevitable 'it's not working' meeting. The last couple of games were improvements but the loss to Luton couldn't be ignored. He did bring in a whole load of iffy players but I would guess that budget constraints meant he had to gambel (sic) on potentially flakey players. You wouldn't sign Bas Savage if you had money.

The point is ,he DID have money , its just that he chose to blow it all on players that weren't up to it. Note the "he" in the last sentence , they were his players ,he signed them and agreed contracts with them. He then signed players like Savage when he realized his mistakes with the first lot.

Yep, not going to disagree with you there! I feel very, very sorry for my club that it had to endure the nightmare that was Gary Johnson and I expect I will probably go to my grave still able to get quite angry about it!

So very true. And for those now making the comparison with AB, perhaps they need to remember that he now has the rather unenviable task of trying to attract quality players to a club that is bottom of the league, whilst at the same time shifting out much of the dross that was signed by Johnson. Can he keep us up? I don't know. But it is a fact that the fella conducts himself with a whole lot more class than Johnson ever managed.

Agreed. I cannot believe that there are people who are still trying to defend and explain with a positive spin GJ's managerial actions whilst he was with us.

I really don't believe we can fully judge AB until he has had a pre-season, Starting with a fresh approach with his own group of players!
He has such a hard job changing the players that are left with us into winners!
Gary Jonhnson as a manager just didn't cut it here, his language was so negative it was never we 'will' or I 'will it was always lets see what happens!

My biggest issue with Johnson was and still is the number of 'lazy signings' he made and contracts awarded. Ashley Corker, the Austrians, McKoy, Turnbull...I really question how many times he had seen these lads play before making up his mind. Because with McKoy and in particular Corker it was clear after seeing them for 15 minutes that they were completely un-usable at league 2 level. Whilst the other 3 players were Im guessing all signed on the basis of 'reviews'; one can only assume that this was also the case with many of the other players he brought in.
I can stomach that it just hasn't worked out for the likes of Davies and Robinson...both of whom have got pedigree. But he lumbered us with almost a team full of players he knew nothing about other than what he had been told. Assuming that he does have some football nouse he would be best advised to rid himself of the hangers on he associates himself with because clearly they have brought him down a few levels!

I think lazy can best describe his approach to everything not just signing players. It was clear to see that the players thought they weren't being pushed hard enough in training and not participating in enough drills. I also saw reports of Johnson not even turning up to training.
