When Cardiff, Swansea, Wigan and Hull were in our league it was because they were also shit. All 4 had enough money or help to build 20000 plus stadia, which makes the difference.

John Buchanan.  A one-man midfield with a shot like a howitzer.  Not sure there would be much fancy stuff from the opposition midfield knowing he was snapping at their ankles.

The problem with players like John Buchanan is that in this day and age they wouldn't stay on the pitch for very long if they played in the same way.  Wink

My head says Gypres, my heart says Macca.  Given we are leaking goals like a sieve then Gypres.

Alan Starling - he never seemed to let any goals in amd had more clean sheets than St Crispin's Laundry (any don't mess with my rosy 1970s memories with any so-called statistics  Wink )

Realistically, we need the defence shoring up.  Gabor Gysepes hasn't been playing and might like to repay the faith we had in him.

Will Luke Guttridge make he difference in midfield?  I'd like to think so.

Up front, with Billy Sharpe moving to Southampton, what will happen to Lee Barnard?  He scored a hatful last season in League One, but hasn't been playing even before he was moved down the pecking order.  Strikers need to be playing and scoring - come on Lee, do it with us.

Okay, so thats one in each position rather than ONE player.

If we had Cliff Holton at the age when he played for us then we would even reach the playoffs from the position we are in now.

Neil Grayson...he was %100 commitment from beginning to end. He scored goals and inspired those around him.
I would have him here now as part of the coaching team but would have loved him here in his prime of course. One of the Cobblers greats IMO
