The PNE forum makes interesting reading. To say that they were not impressed with CC would be a massive understatement. Little bit worrying considering they're only a league above. Undecided

http://www.pne-online.net/forum/showthread.php?70208-Clarke-Carlisle-s-Loan-Cancelled-(Confirmed)/page3

Yea, you're right we should listen to a bunch of fans from a team who have massively high expectations for (some may say) an under achieving team looking for scape goats.

I'm really worried as well. Why the hell did we bother signing a massively experienced, physical, intelligent, winning defender from a team two divisions above who has played week in week out for a decent team in the division above us and was playing in the prem and championship not so long ago? Especially when we could stick with our current crop of centre backs who leak goals every game? Maybe we should get Corker back whilst we're at it?

Personally, I think he is above the level of quality I expected we'd get in by a large distance. I don't give a rat's left nut about what they say on their forum, we'll make up our own minds and we'll find out at 5pm on Saturday how good he is won't we?

Only a league above?

5 places above us is a long way off at the moment!

I was really surprised by Clarke Carlisle coming to us.  Does he take penalties?  I remember t'other year about someone from Burnley who never, ever missed penalties.  Or was it that he has a really long throw?  I definately remember something about him from when Burnley played Arsenal in the League Cup a couple of years ago.  I was listening to it on the radio in the car.  Oh well, my memory is not as good as it was.

As a further thought, do you think we've finally signed a suitable successor to Tom Youngs?

That PNE forum didn't make for pleasant reading. Not a single post saying it was a mistake, defending the stick he was getting or saying that they were disappointed in Westley's decision to let him go.

I'm just gonna have to forget I saw it and keep the faith though.

I'm very happy with the signing of Clarke Carlisle. Surely too good a player for League 2. Massive coup for a club at our level and current league position.

Happy to tie Harding down to a contract although I haven't seen him play yet.

Let's be realistic, he's hardly likely to have joined us if his career was on the up. Put it this way, I doubt if Kettering phoned to check on Jacob's availability.

The only time when opposition fans got it badly wrong when we've signed a player was with Eric Sabin.

That said, Im fairly confident that dropping down to the 4th division will perhaps be his current level where he will excel once more. And the positive influence he will clearly bring will help our cause no end.

On balance, Im still delighted with this signing...also with regards to Ben Harding staying long term.
