As we all know our defence has been a massive problem and now is the time for consistency and clean sheets... Who would you pick?

My back four would look like this

DR - Johnson
DC - Carlisle
DC - Webster
DL - Adams

I think its a very hard choice between Webster and Langmead but I feel Webster had a quality game at Torquay and I'd like to see if he could kick on. Obviously Carlisle is going to be very influential now working with the 'keeper and the other three defenders, Tozer would probably benefit from a break and if he was told to challenge for his place.

You obviously play Football Manager. And Langmead beats out Webster any day of the week.

Another big smile on my face. I always get the big decisions right.

Couldn't be happier, you can all blame me if it turns pear shaped. Up next year without a doubt and no need of the play-offs.

Haha, I was going to list it as - Adams - Carlisle - Webster - Johnson - But thought people may say why would you play Adams as right back!  Tongue

As the economic model goes 'competition breeds efficiency' so swapping Tozer and Langmead out may be a good thing for the club at this stage and I feel Webster could come on leaps and bounds playing next to Carlisle as may Adams.

I'd like to see a back 5 myself.

Johnson/Crowe, Langmead, Carlisle, Webster, Adams.

It seems as though we are agreeing Crowe and Tozer are likely to lose game time then. Crowe is so useful to have on the bench as he can come on and do a job in 6 positions!

With regards to Crowe it will depend on whether AB deploys JJ in midfield or at right-back. But yes, I expect Tozer will get less game time.

Either way, back five is the way forward for me.

I would have to select Langers over Webster, Webster gets in front of his man too often.

Grin Grin Brilliant!! Call AB now, tell him to buy more KFC and we'll have clean sheets for the rest of the season.....

Cant get the thought of the whole team legging forward like schoolkids with the sticks bowing under the pressure of Bayo in goal.

Thank you Dr for making me laugh today!

AB may agree with you guys on a back five and give Langmead, Carlisle and Webster starts... Pretty decent back three wouldn't you say!

No, for me both Langmead and Webster still have everything to prove and have had poor starts to their cobblers careers. Both have been part of shambolic defences that have let in way too many goals and along with Tozer they seem slow, error prone, lacking in organisation and with bigger turning circles than your average cruise liner.
From what I've seen of him Carlisle seems a good signing although I haven't seen him play for a good few years, at the very least he will hopefully bring organisational skills and help the other members of the defence to improve.
As for a back five, I think that would be a bad idea as I think it would just invite pressure and leave us short elsewhere.

We're inviting pressure on ourselves with a back four as well though Grin

If you look at our back 4 and goalkeeper now, 12 months ago they were all playing Championship football or above. (Or at least in the squads)

Weale (Leicester), Crowe (Leeds), Webster (Doncaster), Carlisle (Burnley), Adams (Sunderland)

If they can't keep a clean sheet, especially with Harding and Johnson in front of them then we need to look elsewhere for the reasons for our leaky defense. The team is looking stronger through the middle now.

..........................Weale.......................

Crowe...... Webster.....Carlisle..........Adams

.......................Johnson.........................

Guttridge...........Harding...............Jacobs

................Akinfenwa....Behrinhio

Or even 4-3-1-2 with Jacobs in the hole, we need to get him and Guttridge on the ball. From what I remember, Bayo and Guttridge used to link up well also, im feeling positive all of a sudden.

Subs from
Hall
Langmead
Robinson
Tozer
Young
Gilligan
Purcell
Wedderburn
Holt

the quest for a clean sheet......ntfc didnt concede a goal in the first 2 league matches and only conceded the 1 goal against a championship side. This was with a consitent back four that didnt need to be changed.....however some of you on here seem impossible to please and still called for changes despite being unbeaten......i know from people on the inside that players began to be dropped not for playing poorly but because the fans where complaining and big gary johnson wanted the fans on his side so you got your wish and things where changed.......now languishing at the foot of the football league i harbour a large amount of the blame of users of this site, the regular posters and all you budding fabio cappelos out there. examples of this that back up my arguement that you fail to be pleased. Langmead was hated and took so much stick from you lot it was unreal, now hes the best thing since sliced bread. lewis young, destined for the premier league at the start of the season now you wouldnt have him on the bench never mind the first 11.......reading this post i can imagine your angry at my opinion (the truth) but if you look back over the season at how hypocritical some of the people on here are, and bearing in mind DC reads this and probably relays your opinions to the manger, you cant say your attitude to certian players has being anything other than disgraceful......you deserve as much blame as anyone else for the failings this season......clean sheets werent an issue at the start of the season now these days you couldnt buy one.....now ask yourself how many of the orginal back four figure your (ideal) back four?....my point should now be proven.....you lot have been the hinderance this season and deserve your league position, the players dont, and the staff at northampton dont, but you lot do
