I have been enjoying some old footage (64/65/66) of the cobblers on youtube today. Is there much in existence anywhere else?

I hope that most of you can view these..

Firstly a treat for big Chris  :) 01/01/1966 Sheffield United v Northampton Town.

Would love to find Cobblers v Arsenal in FA Cup, Jan 1958 - have looked all over, but no luck.
It was 3-1 to Cobblers, well over 20000 there including 14year old, me with my Uncle Bill, with Dave Bowen playing for the Gunners, and MOTD commentary by Cliff Michelmore (remember him?). Happy day!

Some great memories there. Those were the days Centre forwards able to shoulder barge the goalie into the net with the ball, Would never be allowed these days, you cant even blow on them. And those pitches, sliding on the mud. I wonder what the premiership primadonnas would make of that?

The Bournemouth game was the only time I ever sat in the Main Stand at the County Ground. Excellent game to watch, really thought we were going to get 10 that day.

While the players are celebrating the fifth goal against Bournemouth a young fan ran on the pitch to join them with his silk claret Cobblers scarf round his wrist, flared trousers and big collars of the time. That lad is John Strother a dear old mate a few of you will know now living out in Oz. Hopefully you'll read this John, always great to see that grin mate.

I remember the Bournemouth game. I was standing on the Kop, so for me all the goals happened at the Hotel End, and I didn't get a good view. I fully expected us to win 10 or 12 nil. Great to see Paul Stratford and Jim Hall in action.
Anyone recall the Hereford match when they had 4 sent off, and we still only managed a 1-1 draw?

Happy days indeed John.

The grin to the camera showed you put some thought into it mate. Not just a mindless pitch invasion. 😀
Stam told me about it at the County game a couple of weeks back. I've probably watched that footage 40/50 times and never realised it was you.

Hope all's good with you. Have a fear Christmas and New Year.

i remember the bournemouth game went home elated and told my dad how well we done that day only to be told in his usual northampton optimism should have come home at half time must have been a boring 2nd half , if i remember rightly didnt the rest of the side try to tee up best up for a hat trick rather than score them selves , that was my excuse any way

Remembering the Bournemouth game my old mate Jim Tomlin arrived for the second half when you could get in at reduced price and never saw any goals at all, he still remembered that game many years later when we used to discuss Cobblers games past, great to see the Jim Hall hat trick again.

I was at the Sheff Utd game, I remember seeing Kenneth Wolstenhome outside the ground and still feel disgruntled about the Mick Jones charge on Norman Coe. Was that the last time that a goal was given from a shoulder charge on the keeper?  Also at the Bournemouth game, that was a good team.

Yep, my girlfriends dad was just the same, when I went round that Saturday evening to see her, his first words were 'What happened to Cobblers in the second half then'? Miserable git.  Mind you, the second half was an anti climax.  6,780 there that day.

Thanks for the Hereford clip, Zen. Some of those tackles, eh? Truly horrendous.
For your next challenge, should you choose to accept it, how about when we beat Fulham at Craven Cottage, I believe the final score was 4-1?
They had the famous Tony Macedo in goal and he ended up with a broken jaw after a nasty collision with our player (Brown?) who got knocked out. A young Rodney Marsh went into goal for Fulham.

Just seen those Bornemouth highlights. I was on the terracing below the main Stand in those days near the Kop end and so didn't get a great view of all the goals, but remember it as a great day in any case. Great to see a lot of old Cobblers favourites there - Hall, Stratford, Gregory, Best, Phillips, Robertson....Bill Dodgin's side and one of the best Cobblers sides I've seen

Also, just found out that my mum drove into Billy Bests car around the same time as well

That's a great video but it's a shame they didn't show the Villa back pass that hit their post. Or the mini pitch invasion thanks to a crushed Hotel End as I might have seen a much younger me. The crowd surges at the back of the Hotel End were an excellent reminder of days long gone.

Fantastic to see the CG full to the brim and the Hotel End in full voice. Lovely rendition of "Your gunna get your fuckin eads kicked in" 5:36

Was pinned down near the front almost in front of Walters when he scored, those surges just show how sanitised it has all become down to moaning over who's in my seat!

Terrace for the boys, paps in the seats, all so simple then.

This is just a general comment with regards to all football fans as I wasn't alive at the time. Why has the Union flag in the majority been replaced by the St. Georges flag amongst football fans since about the late 90's?

The Union Flag's association with NF and the fact that the other cultures within the UK having and using their own flags why not us English?
Similar argument about the National Anthem but it looks like we will be sticking with GSoQ/GStQ...

Watching highlights of Italia 90 recently most of the England fans flags were Union Jacks but yes by 1996 the St George flags took over and rightly so. My birthday is also on St George's Day. I too want it as a bank holiday! One day.

I went to the Notts County game too. It was hammering it down. We went in the home section down the side. Police wanted us to move. We refused on the basis we weren't going to Stand out on an open terrace and get soaked. The Liverpool fans had come from their game at Derby I think after it had been called off.

I've just received a DVD called Shake, Rattle and Goal which apparently was an Anglia TV programme about old football in the region. I've no idea when it was shown on telly. Anyway on this DVD is a clip about 2 minutes long of the Cobblers training before the Manchester United 1970 game. Interviews with Dave Bowen and Kim Book. There's also a clip of Godfrey Ingram scoring the equaliser in a 2-1 defeat away to Hartlepool in 1980. I've no idea how to upload it onto YouTube though. If anyone can do that PM me and I'll send you a copy. Most of the DVD is about bleedin' Norwich obviously.

I looked on YouTube last night and there's a short clip on there of The Cobblers away to Swindon in 1983/84. 0-0 with both teams booed off the pitch at the end apparently. 2000 odd in the crowd. Fantastic, those were the days. Hopefully more clips of that era will appear at some point.

ps The emotional game v Sunderland (1966 L1) end of season win 2-1 would be an interesting clip.

You did well to unearth that match - was at school that day but shocked that we made such a good game of it. Remember my father saying we played very well and should have done better as we had several good chances 2nd half.

Still waiting for footage of Cambridge away 86/87. The performance of McGoldrick is still the greatest of any player in a Cobblers shirt ever. Or am I looking through Carr shaped spectacles again?
