Title: NEWS: Matt Ingram returns to QPR
Post by: Aitobs on January 08, 2018, 15:34:07 pm
Matt Ingram has ended his loan spell at the Cobblers and returned to parent club QPR, the club have announced.

Thanks for everything Matt, in terms of ability he was best goalkeeper we've had at Sixfields in recent years I think.

New keeper in, but rather gutted about Ingram returning. Hope our No 2 (3rd?) keeper can replicate his perfomance against Blackburn if called upon!

Thought he was a saviour sent from God when he joined. Maybe now he's just become part of that problem defence. Good luck to him but a permanent goalkeeper is welcomed.

Seems QPR actually triggered the early recall clause. Glad we made alternative arrangements, rather than stick with Cornell/Coddington...

Queens Park Rangers have recalled keeper Matt Ingram from his loan spell with League One side Northampton Town.

Ingram joined the Cobblers on a season-long loan in August, but the Rs have exercised an option to recall the 24-year-old early.

The former Wycombe Wanderers stopper made 20 appearances in total for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s men during his loan spell.

While Ingram has returned to Loftus Road, fellow stopper Joe Lumley has left temporarily.

The 22-year-old has moved to Northampton’s League One rivals Blackpool on a loan deal until the end of the season and could make his league debut for Gary Bowyer’s men against Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Lumley will be looking forward to get matches under his belt with the Tangerines, having spent this campaign as understudy to Rs number one Alex Smithies.

With Lumley now on loan at Blackpool, the role of back-up to Smithies will likely be performed by Ingram following his return from Northampton.

He was ok and made some fantastic saves, however he always looked a little lackadaisical at times. His kicking was poor on Sat.  Perhaps he's just a cool, calm guy. He wouldn't be in my top 3 NTFC keepers of all time - I'd go Bunn, Welch, Smith.

That's their prerogative - as others have said better now than when the window has closed.

Just found this...seems QPR refused to waive the 24 hour recall option...

Therefore, great work to all concerned in getting a decent permanent replacement in sharpish.

http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/qprs-refusal-budge-loan-clause-leads-ingram-return

Matt Ingram has returned to QPR, while Joe Lumley has joined Blackpool on loan for the rest of the season.

Goalkeeper Ingram, 24, was on a season-long loan at Northampton Town, where he made 20 appearances.

Rangers were unwilling to give up an option enabling them to recall him at 24 hours’ notice this month.

Northampton’s former QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink therefore opted to sign Richard O’Donnell on a permanent deal from Rotherham, prompting Rangers to recall Ingram and loan out Lumley.

It means a fifth loan move for 22-year-old keeper Lumley, who impressed at Bristol Rovers last season and was previously at Stevenage, Morecambe and Accrington.

A good move from JFH, last thing we would want his for him to be recalled and we cannot get anyone in if their is no faith in Cornell/Coddington/Goff.

He has certainly been proactive in this window so far!

Totally agree !

Can you imagine the situation on the 1st February if Ingram had been recalled.

Special mention to Matt Ingram, pure class on and off the field. Good luck for the future and I am sure that you will get a warm welcome whenever you return to Sixfields

Not swayed either way with this one. The new lad looks decent, and in all honesty when you are conceding at the rate that we have been, maybe an experienced keeper who *might not be as good but has better communication skills and general know how is the sensible way forward.

That of course isn't saying that our new keeper isn't as good but hopefully Im getting my point across!

Ingram is a decent keeper, there is little doubt about that. But compared with Smith in our title winning season he's not at that level, by a long way. I also think he's also not at the level he was when he first joined, but like others have implied perhaps thats because defensively we've been a shambles!

He wouldn't make my top list of keepers over the last 20 odd years, Bunn, Smith, Welch, Woodman, Nicholl, Clarke and Duke were all better for us for starters. In my opinion! He could become very decent though, he's very young and will have got a lot out of his loan spell with us. Best of luck to him!

Its a shame Harper doesn't get a mention any more. Probably one of the most vocal keepers we've had in recent times.

Smith was massively over rated .
He had a good first 4 months and then went into rapid decline .
He has been found out at Bristol Rovers where the fans don’t rate him .

Smiths mistakes at Rovers are regularly seen on TV.

Ingram was very similar, OK for the first few months, he steadily declined since but young keepers aren't the finished article.
Whereas Cornell appears to be going in the other direction at the moment, although I still wouldn't be happy for him to be our first choice keeper just yet.

For sure. An over sight, Id have him on my list of decent keepers and primarily for the reason you mention!

He was excellent (overall) throughout the entire championship winning season.

When we went up, he was ok to start off with but seemed to lose the plot after he cocked up in the two high profile cup games. I don't think Page handled things well either, bombing him out after blaming him for the injury Boro winning goal. I think success went to his head plus also he proved to be useless in the big games, WBA and Man UTD spring to mind!

Which ex Cobblers keeper is currently the highest playing level - is it Jordan Archer at Millwall?

Ron-Robert at Stuttgart
