Title: #SellOutSixfields
Post by: Cobbler78 on January 17, 2018, 12:33:46 pm
So, on the back of my post on the Dons thread, let’s all use this board for something positive and try to drag some extra fans through the gate on Saturday. I am bringing 3 extras and will be inviting two more. Get on social media using the hashtag #SellOutSixfields and let’s just see if we can make a difference. Just add your user name as a reply with how many extras you’re bringing.

I shall get on the tweeting later but unfortunately I will be bringing one less with me Saturday than normal as my son is not coming back from uni this weekend.

I like the idea behind this so will beg everyone I know to come.

To be fair I buy three season tickets as it is! Me in the middle and the two either side of me empty. I have done this ever since the noxious flatulence from a fellow fan incident that I documented on here some time ago that made me bring up sick in my mouth.

Maybe something the club could note for the future?

Nice one, would be great to see a full stadium, it might give the clubs marketing department a bit of a nudge to show what can be done to boost numbers just by spreading the word.

I've told all my friends I expect us to get smashed 0-3, a bit like some thought would happen last Saturday against Bradford  ;)
As such they are all going elsewhere.

Nah, round where I am all the seats are reserved by season ticket holders. Hell, last season I couldn't even get a yearly pass for Mrs CJ anywhere close to me.

Glad the club jumped on this, great idea from Mr 78.

Makes you wonder why the club doesn't come up with anything like this though? Derby games like this, especially on the back of a win or two from us, should be promoted the hell out of and not rely on fans starting hashtags.

This fixture would usually attract 6000 plus regulars which is 90% capacity, so for the club to heavily promote it through all media's would create a situation were loyal regulars who turn up 10 times a season, miss out which could cause some resentment which then leads to loonies  demanding improved infrastructure from the Chairman who claims 'its about right' 😂😉
Well done 78.

I’ll ask the question early next week and let you know. There have been a few knockers of the club on here (as happens in football when the team is struggling) but I messaged Kelvin about this promotion and he messaged me straight back with his thanks and telling me he would ask Gareth & the club to get behind it. Just goes to show, they do listen and act.

Without trying to be patronising, you could compare it to previous home gates, compare it to previous home games Vs Dons compare it to previous home games at this time of year....but most accurately I guess, you could compare ticket sales from Wednesday to Saturday with our usual sales in the run up to the game.

Genuine question, are you always this negative and suspicious of new ideas in your everyday life?

Looking at the online ticket site it has made a difference.

Online sales look about normal to me.

You'd expect a slight increase on Saturday due to the fact we've won our last 2 games, it's a match against local 'rivals' and we've signed a host of new players.

I'm not knocking the campaign I'd just be amazed if it made any difference. You either want to pay £22/£24 to watch League One football or you don't.

Firstly, please can the ‘easier’ stuff not seep to this thread too 😳

Second, if this # gets 100 extra on the gate (purely random number) it’s an extra 100 that might not have come so it’s good news.

Third, Why any negativity about this at all? It makes a refreshing change we aren’t all disagreeing about capacity, stats, KT, etc

Finally, let’s just all give it one more push and see what we can do, less than 200 left in the west and less than 100 left in the north surely we can fill out those stands between us even if it doesn’t quite turn into #soldout

So by way of comparison here are some targets:

4917 average at home fans so far this season
5349 home fans Vs MK last season
6080 2nd home game in Jan last season (Vs Coventry)

If we hit the heights of Coventry (although I’m sure that would have been boosted by Cov fans in home area) then we will be close to a sell out, let’s see.

As you say, one final push, ask your mates and relations. Let’s #SellOutSixfields

Title: Re: #SellOutSixfields

Keep spreading the word. Any extras through the turnstiles can only be a good thing. I'm stuck on +3, still pushing for a couple more. Yes it probably would have been a larger attendance than recent games - local rivalry, 6 pointer, back-to-back wins, new signings but all this makes it more attractive to the floaters that we can persuade. I just hope the players don't let us down  :o

Right, done my bit on the radio, don’t think I made an @rse of myself now it’s down to us.

Here’s the thing, it’s Friday, we all know what Fridays can be like at work. So, everyone who reads this, get on your email and email 5 people asking them to come to the game, sign off the email with “feel free to ask your mates” sent a quick text to 5 people or your WhatsApp groups, ask them along, ask them to use the #SellOutSixfields Just 30 seconds out of all of our days could make a huge difference.

You could just ignore this and say “what’s the point, it won’t work” and if everyone had that attitude you’d be right. Let’s be positive, let’s go the other way and think what if we each bought 3 or 4 mates along? Come on, give it a go, imagine if we pulled this off. #SellOutSixfields

i hope you are wearing something on saturday so people know who you are, and can personally thank you for your efforts in swelling the gate.

without you and your efforts, most people going wouldnt have known there was a game on at all, with it being a saturday in the middle of the football season.

Pathetic mate.
Its the lack of this kind of inititive and constant playing down potential and belittling of our club that has created our constant cycle of failure these past 50 years.
Well done 78, the club owe you a pre match meal and drinks.

I’ll say it again, this says more about you and your own feelings of self worth. It’s a shame you and people like you are so insecure that rather than trying to be positive and make a difference they try to drag others down for a sense of superiority. Each to their own I suppose.

Anyway, let’s park that and get back on track with the positive vibes. How are ticket sales looking, has anyone else managed to twist any arms into coming along this morning? Just over 24 hours to go, one final surge!

I now make it 85 seats left in the West and coincidently also 85 left in the North.

No idea what the East will be like as you can only see two blocks on the ticketing site. (only 5 left in those two blocks)

When you go to the pub with these “friends of yours”, do you ever call or text them in advance to ask if they fancy meeting up, or do you just rock up at the pub and hope they’ll all be there, after all they are capable of making their own decisions.

I think this whole plan is a bit beyond you to be honest, why don’t you set up your own thread of negativity so you can chat to likeminded people, it might just put a smile on your face.

Good little initiative at a slightly more upbeat time in a dour season so far.
It would be good to have another later in the season (NTFC led) with a price drop to say £20, or some token giveaways. For a few grand you could achieve quite a decent impact, especially with the younger fans.

100% agree. Maybe along the lines of season ticket holders can buy a ticket for a mate for £20 (extra season ticket holder perk) then maybe add it to the perks for next season for 5 specific games.

It's a good idea. I think it should be part of the perks when purchasing a season ticket, the ability to buy another discounted ticket for a set number of games.

Any STH is likely to be a dedicated fan so no better advertising. If it wasn't for a mates dad taking me to the CG 30 odd years ago, I might never have caught the disease. Back then as a 12 year old, I had to jump over the turnstile though  ;)  That links another chat on here about the attendances in the 80's.

As GPC rightly points out, a scheme like this would need a bigger stadium as friends and groups usually like to be together and is one part of our tiny ground problem...... Lights fuse and legs it

Sad though this is I just took a look on the booking part of the website. It only shows 36 avaible single seats in home areas. No accounting for the away contingent though.

So well done on pushing this game and hopefully the performance matches. Be interesting to see if there are still plenty of empty seats 💺 and how this compares to what appears on the booking site and attendance figures.

Looking forward to trying to recognise the recent signings again and play guess the formation.

I’ve suggested this in the past but a tough call if we are not selling out.
Even offering a £10 voucher for the club shop or towards the next ST.
I’m sure they’ll be empty seats which could have been sold but financially wouldn’t make sense that buy back at the moment. Maybe they could offer it for selected games.

Better challenge is to push for Oxford, so we don't offer them any of the East... which I guess we only do, if we can't sell it ourselves!

Great shout re the Oxford game, the fewer away fans they bring the bigger advantage for us, no matter how small the advantage.

Also, much like yesterday, it could be the day we leapfrog them in the league standings, what a cherry on the cake that would be.

Ive contacted Kelvin, he was very helpful with yesterday’s game.

Maybe it would be worth suggesting to the club about a "Double Moneysaver" Link the Oxford match on Sat 24th Feb with the Gillingham game on Tues 13th Feb. Night games in February are traditionally poor gates, so why not try selling a double ticket for both matches for , say, £35 ?

Interesting. Do we normally sell about 500 adult non season tickets for Tuesday games and 1000 adult tickets for Saturday games (loads more kids on Saturdays)

So 500 X £22 = £11k and 1000 X £22 = 22K

So they’d need to sell 943 joint tickets (£33k / £35) to make more money, might be a struggle.

Well done for your initiative and impetus towards yesterday's bumper home attendance, I believe that it was the primary reason our seasons highest.
Hopefully this encourages an increase for the Rochdale game and those following to Lancashire next week...  ;)

Why don't you and best mate KT show some balls and do it for the Rochdale game instead of waiting for a game with a traditionally large gate.
it had little or no impact yesterday, so do it when it would make a difference.
or, pretend you make a difference for the Oxford gate, as you think you did for yesterday's game and sleep easy in the belief this made up initiative actually worked.

Gillingham & Oxford, perhaps combine with a food/drink voucher /discount?  (think beyond the money made from ticket sales)

Perhaps promote that buying Gillingham gets priority for Oxford, which may sellout?

Scrap the walk-up extra?  Round price down to £20?

Yes, exactly this. If people think the Oxford game will sell out, then they will be eager to secure a ticket. Best way of doing that, would be by saying if you buy a Gillingham Tuesday night ticket, you can also book your Oxford ticket before they go on general sale, and we'll throw in a small discount or a voucher for a pie and a beer at the Sixfield food outlets. The voucher might work better as people struggle for time to eat tea and get to the 7.45pm kick off after work, also the catering is inhouse catering now, so a £7 food/drink voucher wont actually cost the club £7 but the fans get a full £7 free meal & drink.

My job is saving money for the company I currently work for, I probably save them about 4-5 times my salary per year, I don't think they'd be too pleased about me leaving to be honest haha. Most of what I do for my current job and the ideas for Cobblers is just basic common sense really.

Similarly high profile game at around this exact time last season vs Coventry drew a slightly higher crowd so not sure the campaign was such a success but then again it only started earlier in the week I think. Perhaps with another 10 days or so it might have had a bigger effect?

Not sure how true that is, lots of Cov fans were in the home areas for that game. Only the guys in the ticket office would be able to compare Wed-Sat sales compared to usual Wed-Sat sales.

Yesterday, just after Xmas on a cold snowy day, we got 800 more home fans than our previous highest home attendance this season which was against our biggest local rivals. We also got over 1,000 more than our average home attendance for the season. I'll leave it up to others to decide if there was a noticeable difference or not, I suppose it will show whose glass is half empty and whose is half full.

so you dont think the best game to compare it with would be one from the same time last year against a similarly local club? because that game was also just/roughly a month after christmas as well and not at a time when a huge part of the fanbase would still have been on holiday, as was the case for the peterboro match  :)

Encouraging new supporters to become regulars should  never be looked upon as losing money.
We obviously cant go down that route to encourage new fans as we have no where to put them so we stick with our loyal regular 7000 and hope 6000 of them turn up, no more no less as to cater for all.

The tiny ground despite being an embarrassment to our club, averages 80% full over the season so until it has some expansion and other redevelopment, it doesn't make sense to try and attract new supporters.... they wont come back to what we have to offer.

I guess it would dilute the value of a season ticket, which may put them off for next season. I’m playing devils advocate here. I think it should be kids for a quid (if accompanied by a paying adult) as it’s half term.

Most would have an idea of what they expect from a visit to a professional stadium, so paying £24 to sit in the front row of a tiny stand away from friends and getting wet, isnt a good return sales pitch.
The result of a match doesn't need not to be critical for new supporters to return multiple times if the big match day experience is right.
Sadly Sixfields lacks this.

And that's the thing isn't it?? They will lose money.

So when someone above says "whats our comical department doing".....I assume they mean commercial department.....then a good commercial department would never advocate the club losing money.
We've done kid-a-quid and discounted prices before, it seems the difference it gate figures is negligible. We haven't got the ground to do what Nott's County are doing, what Coventry did last weekend, what MK do regularly, what Bradford do with their season tickets, so we can only accommodate a limited number of new supporters anyway. Maybe when we have the long awaited expansion we'll have the scope to do something.

Taking tomorrows game in isolation.....say we made it a tenner for everyone. We would have to offer that price to the away fans too (same prices in comparable areas of the ground and all that).......so we have circa 1000 home fans paying walk-up or buy in advance prices and 500 away fans too. So thats 1500 @£22-24 a ticket...total matchday ticket revenue is 33-36k,
Obviously that means we'd need an extra 1800 to 2100 fans on top of those who were already willing to pay the full price just to break even. Increased footfall benefits from programmes and food for example would be negated by increased stewarding/Police requirements.

So do you think that we'd get an extra 2100 fans for a Tuesday night game in February?? I don't! That's probably why they don't bother!!

As has also been said, it dilutes the price of a season ticket.....they are not that discounted as they are (if you take June price for the West Stand as £430 and matchday ticket price of £22, you only save £76 if you were going to attend every game) meaning that if you miss 3 games of the season you'd have been just as well to pay when you could make it and not been any worse off financially. It doesn't take much discounting of games to eat into that £76 saving to make people think "why bother buying a season ticket?"

Sadly Sixfields lacks this.
so people now don't give a toss if we win or lose as long as they can eat pies at half time? You're such an idiot, it's no wonder you're viewed as a joke

Why do you always (without fail) have a pop at Beds? Is he not allowed an opinion? Or is there something personal going on here?

Are you new to the board? He has a succession of half thought through ideas such as rip down the away end to build a terrace and then rebuild the seated stand in a couple of years. His ideas are costed seemingly using whatever numbers he can see written down around where he is sitting. He has a great many questions and demands of KT yet absolutely refuses to put any of them to him either face to face, in writing or by proxy and then continues to demand answers, he seems to think the ground is too small to sell out (whatever that means), he continues to say that KT belittled the club by saying that currently a larger ground isn't necessarily a priority despite the evidence (current average about 5500).
There's load of other reasons, you like to try and portray yourself as being clever, you don't need me to list anymore.

My question was about you, not him.

You seem to know all of his flaws (you’ve even listed them) either leave him to his own thoughts, which he is entitled to have, or make your own point coherently. The insults make you look petty, something I’ve been dragged into when fighting fire with fire on other threads.

Like I said, is it something personal? It certainly seems that way.

I just think he's a bit of an idiot. Would have thought that was pretty clear.

This is an inaccurate rant me old duck, Ive not advocated knocking down anything just build up behind the south stand seats as it being the most effective and cost efficient solution to our capacity issues.
The ground has a very lower league to non league stature with little in the way of atmospheric stands or corperate facilities or large supporters bars you would find at almost everywhere else, resulting  in it being a major turn off for thousands who live localy who wish to watch league football in a more professional setting but chose not to waste money enduring our poor offerings so theres your missing 1000s.
For someone who has allowed himself to be lauded as a 'football man' he must know this is not 'all right for now' or was it 20 years ago when we all agreed then our ground is holding back the club from taking the next step.
Why he chose to say this only he knows I just assume it being a diverting tactic away from the real issues we face.
Im only interested in demanding the very best for our club and it looks like Thomas and co need a little prompting to see whats right for us..

Serious post.

This board has been dominated in recent weeks by one individual banging on about easier games to come and another droning on about how poor Sixfields is.

It’s got to the stage that it’s difficult to read about anything else, apart from when there is a match on.

The mods have made a good decision by temporarily removing 50% of the problem, I would fully support action to remove the other 50%. These people are trolls, pure and simple, no matter how much they try and disguise the fact with paragraphs of “analysis.”

Quite a serious post this! 75% of the problem is caused by punters on here by continually taking the bait?
