Title: Wilder to Sunderland ?
Post by: guest48 on April 30, 2018, 11:38:07 am
With CW not at all happy with the Blades board and Stewart Donald taking over at Sunderland, I think this might be a possibility. I know he's a Bladesman, BUT, he's also very ambitious and Donald, who allegedly paid the compensation to Oxford for CW to join us, is a good friend of his and Sunderland really are a sleeping giant.

For the right money, the resources to put together a team of his own choosing                   YES.

Sunderland are a much bigger club than Sheffield United.

The right time and the right man.

I suggested the same possibility to a Sunderland supporting mate the other day when the news broke about Donald taking over.

No chance. Sheff Utd spent years before Wilder dragged them up first time of asking. Who's to say Sunderland won't stay there for years too? More likely to be a candidate for the West Brom job.

How are you quantifying 'much bigger'?

If it's financial muscle, fair enough, but their fanbases are pretty similar - Sunderland's average attendance this season is 27,598 and Sheffield United's is 26,854 (http://www.worldfootball.net/attendance/eng-championship-2017-2018/1/).

That's with Sunderland having a very poor season and Sheff Utd their best (at a higher level) for years. I see CW is the favourite at the Bookmakers.

Well it would be a fantastic appointment for Sunderland if they pull it off. I thought Wilder would have been a solid option for Rangers until they went for a bit of a wildcard with Gerrard.
