Title: Football strip
Post by: double row row 7 on May 17, 2018, 17:31:06 pm
Does our away kit get updated this year. Personally I thought the black strip was very boring, and would rather see a reverse of our home kit white shirts, claret shorts, white socks.

Quite liked the white and black away shirts from last couple of seasons, but if I ever see that orange monstrosity (a photo finish with JFH as to who or what was responsible for our demise!  ;D)I'll...

Pretty sure the kits were advertised as 17-18.

I reckon Yellow is due a return.

Wonder if 3 kits is going to be the norm under Nike, and whether they actually sell more, and make more £ that way.

Nike usually use the previous years home design as the away for the next so it will be exactly like our 17-18 home one but in a diff colour - i suspect yellow and black trim

Remember that blue away vividly, Notts County away and Bristol City using it at the CG after forgetting to bring their kits spring to mind!
Both 3-1 defeats iirc!

I've always favoured a white away shirt with a claret trim...none of this Orange/Green nonsense. The only exception was the pink 'un a couple of years back.

I really don't like the tie to Nike....thereby always being at the back of the queue and stuck with their dog-basic designs.
Quality wise they are fine, but again far too expensive.

A return to the solid Lotto kit design ( itself a Torino kit) would look good to me ....with a reversal , mainly white away kit.

We always miss a trick with our kit change, as is often said, losing the fairly lucrative Holiday- purchase market.

Presume orders only at the open day launch.....once again disappointing.

The Errea pink kit was the best in ages, followed by the white 2 stripe. Then obviously the lottos stand head and shoulders.

Nike obviously have the street cred and there are more youngsters wearing the kit than ever before which is great.

I'd like Hummel personally as their attention to detail is great and their track tops would be superb. But again most of the younger generation would like Hummel who?

Also the club shop is outsourced to a company with links to Nike so any change of brand is unlikely.

It does say: "with the new home kit also on sale from the club store too from around 12.45pm."
However it may only be as you say aside from a limited number/sizes.
Although, hopefully we could be doing them a disservice this year?

Just talking about Torino kits at the beer festival last week. Every season sees them launch undeniably brilliant home and away kits.
Yes, the Lotto 97 the best ever! Ended up swapping mine with the owner of the Torino (Firenze Branch) bar in Florence. Dud deal....only got a scarf in exchange!  ;D
To be fair, he already had a Northampton Town pennant adorning the bar entrance!

Open day, 22/7.

Not sure if it's meant to be a clue or anything, but summer tweets etc seem to use a lot of white with claret as the background, rather than mostly just claret.

Very possible, I did find their official tweet poking fun at us for using their spare kit a bit silly though.  They were effectively admitting that we got all the shirts made for them by Nike that they couldn’t sell.

Why red ffs...I like a yellow away kit but trims must be either clarey or white...

Was last seasons home shirt a bespoke design, or was it teamware? I haven’t seen the design elsewhere.

This away kit though, it’s a shocker! The club should take it off the shelves immediately and send it back to get the red changed to claret.

Why don’t we consult the fans anymore, other Nike teams give a choice I think

It might be a bit of a shocker but over the last few years we've had pink, white and black, yellow and black, the orange and purple 3rd kit last season and a black kit. All these kits didn't have any claret in them as far as I'm aware. If you don't like it don't buy it, hopefully the home kit will be more 'traditional'.

Edit. Anyone remember the light blue kit a few seasons back?

The point is that the shirt would have been pretty good with claret instead of red. I’m not dead set against red as such but it looks pretty s*** with the yellow imo. I’m pretty convinced that would have never got chosen in a fans vote.

For what its worth, I think that it looks OK. Nothing more, nothing less. Just OK. But I certainly wont be buying one.
I have to say though, having deliveries a couple of times a week, at my site, from DHL, it does strongly remind me of their drivers. If you dont like it folks, then dont buy it. As the meerkat says, Simples.  :D

Feel sorry for the staff at the club that have signed this off. Someone's made a misjudgement.

Let's face it our fans don't need extra reasons for people to take the mickey out of them either.

Am more than willing to help out with kit and merchandise designs and have let the club know this again.

I'm also happy to sit down with the club and a designer to sort out a Cobblers colour palette which the fans can agree on. There are highly skilled professional designers amongst the shoe army ranks who want to help.

We have the potential to have the best kits in the Football League, our club colours are beautiful when done right.

Completely agree with the posters from above who point to Torino etc as clubs that bring together heritage and design. If Nike aren't cutting the mustard then let's look at other firms that will.

Hopefully the club will take me up on the offer and happy to work with other fans to look at their ideas.

The 'if you don't like it  don't buy it' line is flawed, especially at a small club like ours. Let's try and make something a lot of people like and want to buy. The pink Errea kit was actually bespoke and really well designed.

This is not the point. I am solely concerned with what "my team" look like, have rarely bought a shirt. Its called heritage. Agree that we could have outstanding unique kits quite easily.

Are you going to bore us stiff with insights into shirt design. On the other hand it might be a rare windup from you!  ::)

But it is the point. By your own admission, you have rarely bought a shirt.
I, on the other hand, have quite a collection. But I only buy the ones that I actually like. I have an old Carpet Supacentre one, that I am very fond of. And Lotto, and Chronicle and Echo, and EBS.
To be honest, away kits are normally pretty crap anyway. I am more concerned about the home one.

I wonder how many have been produced, surely it would be possible just to change the red to the wonderful claret in the badge?

The few that have already been made with red can all be given to youth teams around the county, or possibly jumble sales.

My mate has a Torquay away shirt also Nike, looks good so it can be done. He even wears it more than his Manure shirt now. Did Torquay fuck all good last season though. Maybe Nike are the problem?

TBF got a pretty decent reply from Kelvin and reiterated my willingness to help out. Really think we can be up there with the best in terms of kits and merchandise with some attention to detail and creative thinking. Good to hear from talented Cobblers fans too that want to help improve things.

My pm's are open on here if you have any ideas. Cheers,

claret and white for home and white with claret trim away a third kit and alternative looking shirt of black and claret quarters would look good and sell well.
The yellow and red crap kit can be sent over to less fortunate youngsters in Africa.

I can only assume it would cost the club more to have claret on the shirt as it's not a standard nike colour.  I would also imagine that this shirt is being produced for a number of clubs around the world in the same combination of colours.  Again reducing the costs for the clubs that choose it.

But not reducing costs for the paying customer!! £45 for a cheap standard top then? Thank god we didn’t have claret in it, they would have charged about £80 a throw!!

The point is that if the club wants to sell replica kit it should be a kit that is going to sell!!

Nike Park Derby

Not sure why people are suprised, all clubs under the Nike/Just Sport arrangement are in the same boat, with the odd exception where a custom shirt gets commissioned.

Kit is chosen from the teamwear book ~£15... badge stuck on.... sell for £45.

I bet the Nike sales have outperformed other brands in recent years, just for the Nike name alone.

Still think we're in for a white and claret home shirt though, which will get a far more positive reaction

Of course it won’t reduce the cost for the consumer.  If we wanted a custom kit commissioned by Nike it would be more expensive for the club leading to either a higher store price or lower profit margins.

We may well have a custom home kit but never both a home and away custom designed.

Football kits are easy to knock up, so why not  cut out the middle man and get an indian/ chinese clothing  manufacturer to knock up several thousand shirts of our supporters choice that are unique and exclusive to us?
It doesn't need to have a nike or addidas logo ours could have a small shoe or shoetown motive.
At £5 per garment and retailing at a fairer £35, that would beat Nike hands down and stop us from having to wear Ronald McDonald clown shirts.

The issue with that is the club shop is outsourced  so untill that changes any change in brand is not going to happen.

Sadly non cobblers are again left choosing our kit, for their benefit stop picking blue or sky blue, cov and posh, avoid yellow oxford watford and orange luton.
All other colours for a 3rd kit are acceptable as long as a tinge of claret is present.
Hope that helps.

The Pink kit was worn for a very worthy reason, in support of charity and a very worthy cause that connected many supporters of the club, it therefore had a meaning that was welcomed by most supporters and did a great deal to make us identifiable with that cause. The Red & Yellow kit is a poorly conceived  exercise in commercialism that has gone down like a lead balloon.

The life guard/Ronald McDonald yellow and red clown shirt can be bought directly fron Nike for £14 but doesn't have the Npton uni logo, for that you pay the extra £31 😂😂

I'm really hoping the home kit is claret and white with no other unwanted  colours added.

Make this kit the 3rd and get a proper white with claret trim 2nd kit to play in.
