Cobblers have signed Doncaster Rovers striker Andy Williams on a two-year contract on a free transfer, the club have announced.

Decent signing at this level, scored plenty for swindon and yeovil in lg2.

My worry would be, he couldn't get in a poor Doncaster team, also not the pacy forward we need, but hopefully first of a few

Surely this news is 'too good to be true' tho 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Had injury problems last season, that is why he didn't play many games.

He knows league 2, so on paper a good signing.

He did yes, but on retuning from injury did not get much of look in, funny as marquis was hardly setting the world alight

To me it feels a very similar signing to when we got Revell.....you can all decide for yourselves if that is a good thing or not  ;D

I suppose we can't fully judge until we see the blend of signings, would think a player of this type we would look to get some pace around him, either a strike partner or on the wings.

Welcome Andy, hope you get another promotion on your CV!

Similar age as when when re-signed Rico.

It's good to have a proper striker on board and I hope we can provide him with good service.

Having read up a little about the lad, a signing that could literally go either way…pretty much like any signing then!  ;D

He's 32 in August and has been injured a lot recently. On the flip side, he's scored 20 or got close to it on 3 occasions in his career (all in the last 7 seasons), so stats wise you could argue theres a 1 in 3 chance he might bang them in for us on a regular basis. He can also play on the right wing apparently so IF we are to play with 1 up top, he could arguably be one of the two strikers flanking the middle hit man.

One of Donny's highest earners according to a recent article in the Doncaster local press (April 2018) - so on the face of it we are not shopping at pound land which is a positive in itself. If the offer we'd put in wasn't a decent one he'd have bided his time…so given our post Chinese finances then this *may be a positive statement from the board to give it a real go next season.

Welcome aboard Andy!

Now for 3 more with pace!

Think he good work well with Iaciofano alongside him doing the leg work.

Is it ok if I write something relatively ambiguous, then only refer back to the bit that is relevant to him either doing well, or not..

Here we go.

Worth a go, as he has shown he knows where the net is at our level.

However, he is injury prone and known to drift in and out of form.

Looks like a good signing on paper.

Putting aside the odd decent season, his inconsistency is what stands out most.

Not a bad signing for a start.

For an initial signing. It does show a bit of a lack of ambition.

And finally........... I can see where DA is going with this signing. A combination of experience and goals at our level.

How does this demonstrate a business model based on sustainability and grown.. E.g. Where me exec boxes.

Worryingly, looks like KVV (ok, has a beard!). Also, coming in from the East Ridings/South Yorkshire area. Also, injured more often than not!  :o ;)

Nice to see the Cobblers still treading the same old road. Signing 32 year old forwards is the Clubs preferred way forward.

I think I agree with the consensus - a half decent signing if he’s fully fit but not one to set the pulse racing - as others have said above it now depends on who else we bring in alongside/around him preferably focusing on pace.

Just how many younger strikers have we signed since the last 32 year old? I cannot be bothered to look it up. Even Dean Bowditch wasnt 32, I think.

Not counting loan signings..

Kevin Van Veen - 26  ;D ;D
Billy Waters - 22 (when we signed him, now 23)

Dean Bowditch scored twice in his last game for Stevenage, end of March. Did he get injured?

John Marquis clearly feels we've got a good player.

His Tweet from earlier "Great guy & top player! Give this man service & he will get goals!! NTFC got a top player! All the best Willo, you'll love it at the Cobblers!"

That'll do for starters...seems to have the character that Austin likes and always good to have a bit of experience at this level.

That's one way of looking at it. Personally I see it as a sign of things to come in a different way. The fella has four promotions under his belt, including a recent one from League 2. Plus, I have friends in Doncaster who tell me he works his socks off every game. This suggests to me that although we may not be wowed by some of Deano's signings, the man himself knows exactly who/what he is looking for.

And a few of these next year will hopefully keep us smiling.

I agree with the above.
My report from Donny was that he isnt as hard working as Marquis (not many are to be fair) but he will score goals in L2 (if fit). Could be a good signing.

We've made a lot of 'exciting' signings in recent times: Grimes Perreria, Van Veen etc. None of them have turned out that well....

Austin is right to prioritise industry and character in his new recruits.

Judging by the impression he is giving DA will only be signing players who give their all for the shirt. My guess, and it is a guess, is that this bloke will fall slap bang in the middle of this category. He’d better because this squad is crying out for them? I reckon that will be the main criteria for any signing?

Pretty quick, works hard, decent in the air, scores goals, tried and tested in L2. From what I've seen, KVV hasn't ticked any of those boxes yet.

Flippin' heck - vV has not played a full game yet due to injury sustained at AFCW. If he stays and plays a few games then he may come good.....hopefully!

Even more damning for JFH if true because to the vast majority it just looked like he didn’t want to be playing and/or couldn’t be bothered. If someone is injured that badly they shouldn’t be near the squad.
Let’s hope for a JJOT like comeback.

This is the market we are now in .
League 2 is a different ball game and we are not going to attract players that blow your socks off .
Williams seems a decent enough striker with a good record .
It does hit home that we are only replacing Rico and Revell with more of the same , if not a down grade !
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but one of those two should have been kept .
The JFH factor came into play there though and he knew best .

Van Veen has not been injured .
The reason he didn’t play was not down to injury .
All players carry knocks - crooks played through his for example .
Some players at this club were t*ssing it off .

IMO Williams (If fully fit) is an upgrade on Richards and Revs - Rico is 3 years older (which once you hit 30+ is a fair bit older) and you could clearly see not good enough for Lg1

Revs was never a goal scorer and is also 34 - this guy is more of a natural finisher.

If offered 1 of the 3 tomorrow I'd take Williams every day of the week.

Meh.

So we've not managed to woo Salah, Ronaldo or Messi...

Wtf. We'll just have to make do with a striker who's proven at this level...

For those making comparisons to Rico and Revs... well, they did alright in L2 this season and this guy is younger than the pair of them.

He'll do alright for us.

I think...😁

Some people just like to moan.He has not even played for us yet and he is no good.I do agree getting rid of Rico was a big mistake should of kept him for his experience and love for club he might of given some of the player's a kick up the arse last season and showed the same passion as Buchanan did when he got recalled to the match day squad/team.

He’s saying good enough, old enough. So on that basis he would still have to be good enough.

My query about Iacafano is if he isn’t doing the right things during a game in terms of his movement , what on earth were the coaches doing with him before JB joined the club ??
I think this is the major difference we are now seeing . JB is a very good coach of younger players but before him by all accounts we had a very amateur set up.

Linda's always had a soft point for Feelie..I hope she is doing well.

I left for the States as MI6 were chasing me. I had to change my name and appearance.

Mark my words Cecil, KVV will be a Revelation

Because he openly said he isnt good enough yet and has lots to work on. Couple that with the number of senior strikers who will be on the books, with a maximum of 2 spots up for grabs...

Bet he’s well chuffed he’s signed for us!
In his interview he was impressed in what the club had said, their ambitions and the players they plan to sign.
Today the owners want out!!

Seems as he has signed a pre contract coming into force permanently in July you couldn’t blame him if he wanted to tear it up and go elsewhere.

I’d be looking at a more stable club if I was after employment.
