Title: Walter Tull Memorial
Post by: guest48 on May 22, 2018, 11:48:07 am
Northampton Town Supporters Trust has provided the funding for the restoration of the Walter Tull memorial at Sixfields.
A local stonemason began work at the site yesterday to clean the memorial and bolden the engraved lettering, which had begun to fade.
The memorial has been in place at Sixfields for 20 years and has become the focal point of Northampton Town Football Club's Remembrance ceremonies.
The Trust felt it was a timely opportunity, as part of the national Tull 100 campaign, to fund this restoration.
A new tribute to former Trust chairman Brian Lomax, which was recently vandalised, will also soon be in place.
In the next few months, together with the football club, we will be announcing details of a community initiative to remember Walter Tull.
And the Trust plans to sponsor a Cobblers game close to Remembrance Sunday to honour the memory of Walter and others who have fallen, in what we hope will be a strong demonstration of Northampton unity and community through the beautiful game of football.
