Title: Brackley Town (A) - 10th July
Post by: guest3063 on July 08, 2018, 18:21:46 pm
Two pre-season games this week before the team jet off to Spain on Saturday.

The game against Brackley will surely provide a stiff test.

More minutes for players with a mix of teams due to play in two fixtures over two days.

Finally a game that doesn't clash with England.  Decent test and chance to get some more pre-season minutes.

Hopefully getting to this one as long as work does not get in the way.

Really missed not being at pre-season, although the bonus has been England getting as far as they have in the World Cup.

Do we think Deano will put out what he views as his first eleven in one of these halves?

I'm thinking it's still going to be a mixed bag for the Tues/Weds game this week. Would expect a first team feel by the time we get to the Barnet game.

i doubt it - he wont know that until they are back from spain and has lost all the overpaid players / players who want out and replaced them.

All the overpaid players / players who want out and replaced them.

I thought this would have been mostly resolved by now, with relegation reduced wages solving the first problem.

Can only really think of KVV who people say wants out, though would be surprised if anyone came in for our players after last seasons performances.

Maybe Mathius can update us as he now seems to be our man on the inside? Or yourself of course, if you are in the know?

i think anyone who can play at a higher level (or think they can) will probably leave to play at a higher level

Wednesday's game at Chelmsford has been cancelled due to an "unplayable pitch" think the groundsman has been slacking off watching the world cup!

It's a shame this isn't on a Saturday. The chips they do at Brackley are very tasty.

Starting 11: Cornell; Odoffin, Taylor, Barnett, Buchanan; Powell, S. McWilliams, Foley, Bridge; Hoskins, Williams

To come on at some point: Goff, Facey, Jay Williams (Academy), Pierre, Turnbull, Whaler, Crooks, O’Toole, Waters, Roberts, Iaciofano and Cameron McWilliams (Academy)

No sign of KvV after he came off at St Albans.

Shame not to see A. Trialist on the team sheet - he's chosen instead to play for Bradford tonight.

Difficult to judge in a game where the pros may not be taking it seriously, but O’Toole and Facey looked a step above everyone else on the pitch. Powell started well but faded. McWilliams played welll after a shaky start. Iacofano did ok, all up to the final ball. Roberts looks the best from his age group, able to hold up the ball decently even with a kids body.

Twitter feed for NTFC has him down as likely to be making an appearance about 45 mins before the matches started, so I’d hope and assume he picked up something in the warm up.

Had sausage Roll instead - only £2.00. Hard fought win but better than the 4-2 loss which really had me worried for the team. Cornell looked ok. No Crooks or vV. Hoskins gave a typical mad hatter performance. Waters not too bad. McWilliams and Barnet had a very shaky start. Defence generall ok with some good cover from midfield. Very little quality first half, slightly better 2nd. No bl**dy chips - some people so unreliable. Daniel looked good without the ball; ran into endless no entries when he did have the ball! Williams took his goal well but a bit ineffective.  I would say we lacked quality in certain areas; like up front, on the wings and possibly midfield. Certainly missed Crooks. The new fullback - his passing was attrocious. Turnbull when he came on as left wing back? played quite well. Not sure if Pierre came on. Quality we need more of it. Third game and still nobody can find a way past Cornell. Crowd of 350+ of which approx was 47.66% NTFC. Mad Michelle was there - but no Brian tho!

gives us more idea of who is staying and who is going - but my god, that team if in league 2 this season is awful

Good to hear Roberts played well. He is the only one from his age group. A year younger than SW.

Pretty damning view that Evers, especially coming from yourself. I know you always try and be positive about our players. Let's hope the players step things up a bit and a bit more quality is added like you say!

Shame about the chips!

1st team versus youth team. Good that DA is casting his eye on the younger players.

I don’t know if I’d call a training match an additional game/friendly! If we do end up losing the players that some people keep saying the youth team could in effect be our first time by August!

The young players I saw at Brackley maybe promising but not ready or good enough for first team....yet!
The point about yesterday’s game we won 1-0. Not the greatest performance but far better than that 2-4 defeat two years which heralded two poor seasons in L1! Bit disappointed that some of the experts chose not to go last night  Pleasant drive, warm evening  back home before 10pm. Behind me sat two blokes both in their 70’s and travelled from Npton by bus! Proper supporters!!!

Don't be such a darling - I reckon you are one of the few experts on here who by default might have gone to reinforce your opinion. It would have been a help to us non experts to benefit from your view point. Oh well just have to soldier on!
