Title: Notts Co at home
Post by: southofthecounty on November 29, 2019, 16:59:22 pm
I have noticed nearly all the bookies have us at just slightly worse than even odds to win tomorrow.
Given both teams recent form and relevant league positions, is this quite generous, or am I missing something?
(I'm missing something aren't I?)

Expect we will see a few changes with Smith up top with Walters and Arnold in goal. Possible start for Pollock?

Good job Notts County have sold out the south stand and have an extra 300 allocated tickets in the east, likely to bring 1100-1200. This should make up for a much lower home support as looking at available tickets a lot of season ticket holders not going. Currently in the block I sit in there are 52 tickets available whereas for a normal league game there are only 6 non ticket holder seats.
Hope we don't make too many team changes, keep our winning run going and pray for an attractive draw in round 3.

Apparently all the boxes in the East Stand have been allocated to Notts County.

I reckon 10/11 or thereabouts are great odds for a Cobblers win. Notts County may be "up for it" but despite their history they are a mid table non-league club with footballers to match.
There's the promise of a cash cow draw and only the EFL Trophy game on the following Tuesday and that's bound to get the weakened team.
Fill your boots folks!

I really hope for a strong team. In fairness I reckon we have quite a strong squad so whatever eleven is chosen will be more than good enough to beat these. I'd like to see Warburton get a game.
Great to hear Notts bringing a good following down. Could still be a good 4,500 there then even if home fans are about 1,000 down on normal numbers. I wonder if the 2pm Sunday time is putting anybody off? Not me, I'm up for the cup.

Very simple goals, but we've held them at arms length with one exception where it was easier to score than miss. Oliver playing well, Hoskins better than normal, Goode playing well. Midfield isn't really having control of the ball but that seems mostly tactical. A very silly booking for McCormack only downside, and I'd want to see more from Anderson.

A comfortable win and a professional performance in a game that never seemed to get going as a spectacle. We're in the bag for the next round though and that's all that counts.

I felt a bit for the Notts County fans. Today must have been a stark reminder of how far they've fallen.

We looked very good at times, particularly in the first half. Let them have a lot of the ball in the second half and after McCormack went off they ran through us at will at times. That's a concern. Another good game for Wharton and Goode, Hoskins played well and provided two assists. Oliver also looks the part at the minute. A mixed afternoon for Arnold.
So round 3 for only the second time in 14 years. Spurs away would be ideal. Or Arsenal, Chelsea or Everton at home or away. I'd like to play a team we've not played since the 60's and I think those 3 are about it. I'm pretty sure every other Prem or Champ club we've played since. Villa away or home would be alright too. Avoid an away trip to a Fleetwood or Plymouth, Exeter, Gillingham and the like.

The fact that the ball hit a divot and took a massive bobble might have had something to do with that - I notice that you’re not mentioning the brilliant cross for Oliver’s goal or the overhead kick that nearly created another? Regarding Arnold, I hope that it was a case of rustiness and the fact that he hasn’t played since Chippenham - the attempted punch was the right thing to do but ended up a mess and their goal was very untidy to put it mildly. It will be interesting to see if we go with the same formation and personnel against Exeter (knocks to McCormack and Oliver allowing) - I keep thinking that it is incredibly brave for Curle to continue with Hoskins and Adams as our non-defending wingbacks and that someone is going to catch us out but for now the 3 of Goode, Turnbull and Wharton (and McCormack dropping in to help out) are defending brilliantly

Anyone that doesn’t appreciate the way that Hoskins and Cornell have come on this season quite honestly doesn’t gain any respect from me .
Neither are in any way perfect but this is division 2 and all players have frailties .
I am surprised Hoskins has adapted to the wing back role but fair play to him and how he has progressed .

Hopefully he'd be as crap as the last time we played against him.

This season is weird, our form is absoultely fantastic at the moment, but I can't help shake the feeling that we keep getting lucky time and time again with some of these results. Every half chance we have we capitalise on, and then the opposition fluffs two or three open goals a game.

Where’s the Cornell haters that were calling for Arnold ? Must be feeling a bit silly eh ?

Cornell 'haters'? Why such childish language? Not rating a player doesn't mean you 'hate' them, ffs. Why should one 'costly' Arnold error mean that anyone who doesn't rate Cornell should be 'feeling a bit silly'? Do you understand the concept of logic? Didn't Arnold make some excellent saves as well?

I personally have no opinion on Arnold yet, being that he has hardly featured and has been out injured, except that I hope he proves to be a better 'keeper than Cornell who was atrocious for most of last season and though he has no doubt improved still has been no better than 'OK' this term IMO.

Anyway, aren't you feeling a bit silly following the countless posts slating Curle and the quality of the current squad only a month or so ago? According to you this squad was worse than last year and would finish lower in the table, hilarious stuff.

Both have improved but Hoskins in particular has been like a different player. Cornell has done OK but he's benefiting from having arguably the best defence in the division playing in front of him, most games he has had very little to do. His game management has been decent though.

Agree with you on the term 'hater' used by Boots.
But that should not deflect from his salient point that you have conducted an indepth critical analysis of Cornell going to extreme lengths to prove your views are correct. Almost a case of paranoia? If Cornell had made those two or three
errors yesterday you would be amongst the first to voice your disapproval?

Perhaps second voice behind Patmore although he seems to be another poster that has recently gone missing.
Clarence says he has no opinion on Arnold but he has previously chosen him ahead of Dai when listing his preferred starting eleven so that can't be right unless of course he would prefer literally anything in goal to our Dai.
I hope it's not the later but fear it probably is.

Even though it was their reserve team it had, I think 9 internationals in it.
