Title: Keith Curle
Post by: Why? on August 09, 2020, 16:57:24 pm
He is the best manager to take NTFC forward.

Total respect for what he has achieved.

Total patience that we may need time to storm this division.

Charlie Goode's first game.....  McWilliams shouting coaching at him.

Need I say more?

Patience & faith. We have flirted more with relegation from the league than promotion to level 2.

Why, you'll upset the "he'll be gone by xmas" brigade. I have said on here many times that I consider him to be the best manager since CW. Every manager is going to have a few duff signings but his transfer record compares favourably with those that have gone before. I like the way he insists on meeting all potential signings to ensure they are of the right character.

That is the second time in a few days you have brought up the "gone by Christmas Brigade". Literally no-one is criticising him currently.

I'm obviously a fan of the last two play-off games and I'm backing him to make us competitive this year as well, but let's not go overboard with praise either. The football is pedestrian and when it doesn't work (and it doesn't always) it is horrible to watch. We were also only two games away from the consensus being that we wanted him sacked.

My point is, that so far he's proven to be a competent, organised manager with some flaws. That's not all knee-jerk back to sacking him if he loses a few games at the start which may well happen even if he recruits really well, but there's also no need to hail him as the next messiah yet.

He's mentioned a few times that he playing the style of football that he has too. I always took that to mean the players he had werent good enough to play the way Wilder's team did. With a few changes coming, more time to make the squad his own, and playing in a higher league, do you think we may play through the midfield on the odd time?

There was a Forest Green fan who thought Mills would be wasted playing direct football, but I suppose he might be brought in to cross it. We'll be up against it in the league above with some proper quality players, so I wouldnt be surprised if we revert to type more often, particularly as it seems to be more effective against teams who try to play on the ground.
