Yesterday Aged 32... :(

Underrated for us and put in some superb performances but none more so than in the play-off semis against Cheltenham. We were unbelievably good at home under Boothroyd that season and that all started with how solid we were at the back. RIP Lee, far too young.

Crazy age! Was playing for them as last as last week too!   :(

Very sad news. I thought he was one of our better players while he was with us and certainly gave it everything.

Tragic news, I was genuinely shocked and saddened when I read about this a while ago.

Poor Lee Collins to pass away at such a young age. Was a defensive lynch pin for us; as an aside never forget his own goal against Port Vale from 25/30yds out! Still liked him all the same. Very good player for us.

A lovely bloke off the pitch and true leader on the pitch........just look at the outpouring of heartfelt love from ALL  his former clubs and tributes from Fans & Fellow Players alike.

I particularly like the photo of him with Tom Pope at the end of our game v the Vale doing the rounds on social media.

Always one of my favourites.

Terrible news, like many others have said he was a cracking lad and a good player, who always gave his all. RIP Lee, condolences to his family.

Reports coming out confirm Lee hung himself. Very sad to hear.

Heartbreaking is the word. He was someone who clearly went out of his way to help others from the glowing tributes he received from former teammates, was held in high esteem by the fans of every team he played for, was acclaimed as a strong leader by his managers and had a beautiful young family who loved him. On paper he had everything going for him.

What a shame he was clearly in turmoil and seemingly didn't know where to turn when he needed help himself.

It just goes to show, you never know what people are going through on the inside. Rest In Peace, Lee.

I'm feeling quite maudlin and philosophical about this latest news. In the past I've been a bit glib about suicide and said how I feel more sorry for the people they leave behind than the person themselves. As I've got older though I've come to understand it more and have more of an appreciation of mental health.

I think becoming a father also changes your perspective and I'm laying next to my daughter, trying to get her to sleep as I type this. Seeing her silhouette in the gloom and hearing her gentle breathing as she drifts off, I'm privileged to know to that little girl I'm currently her everything. The main worry I've had through the pandemic is the concern of what would happen to her if anything were to happen to me? How would she cope with a loss like that at her age? How would it affect her as she grew? I'll be honest, it frightened me; I was far more worried about the effect on her rather than my own mortality.

I don't think I'm anything special as a father. I think all parents feel like that. Your child is just more important than you.

Lee Collins had three young daughters and seemingly could still only see this as a way out. To think someone, by all accounts a good person, could feel so badly about things that they lose sight of their value to their children is just heartbreaking.

I've just made a donation to the Just Giving page set up to help Lee's family, along with a second donation to the National Suicide Prevention Alliance's CALM campaign in Lee's name. It would be nice if someone else who finds themselves in this sort of position could be saved on the back of his loss.

This is actually really quite hard hitting. I have for a while, felt precisely like that (my lads 11). Those 'negative thoughts' are apparently very common for a parent, I didn't realise that until a while back. Thought it was me, for a while. I could have typed that myself, without the good grammar though. Really Good post mate...

Puts me off just reading that coroner inquest no holes barred. Never forget his infamous own goal against Vale - 25yds out too.
Sorry for his family who no longer have a bread winner.

Would never have known that he was an alcoholic,  seems he hid it and his other problems that well nobody could see apart from his partner.

I'd be a little less worried about the drink, I mean look at that great Arsenal team, and more concerned with the Class A drugs. I wonder if they're a common thing in pro football?

Alcohol causes far more damage than class A drugs, regardless of the legalities. I'm convinced we'll see public opinion swing on this over the next generation (it clearly is elsewhere), along with the consumption of meat and several other ever changing mindsets. Alcohol is a known depressant. The criminalization of drugs clearly doesn't work and would suggest they are rife across large sections of society. The amount of crime alone associated to drugs could be all but wiped out with the right approach. Let's not start on prisons!

For context I'm not teetotal, vegan or a drug taker!

Top post, couldn’t agree more. Far more people have died due to the criminalisation of drugs than if they were say, decriminalised and properly regulated. Also far more lives are ruined by alcohol than drugs.
For the record, I love a drink and have also partaken in illicit substances once or twice.

You could and probably do deal with people who have an alcohol problem on a daily basis, the thing is the majority of them don't acknowledge that they have a problem until it's too late.

I'm well aware of that having had alcoholic members in my family. What concerned me was the fact that a pro footballer must know a positive test for a Class A may end their career. Imagine the pressure of that.
