I'm pretty sure the north stand (and the south stand for that matter) was designed so that you could literally take the roof off, add a second tier the same size as the existing stand, and then stick the roof back on again, without having to make any major structural adjustments to the existing stand, giving you the Southend-style structure. I'd imagine, therefore, that that would be cheaper, but in all honesty I really don't know, and I doubt the Buchanan guy does either.
It was sort of. The extension would have to go behind and above rather than straight on top. of course in that case the the roof would need to be bigger (following the Pythagorean theorem) but I'm sure you knew that. I think I've still got a copy of the original design for a horseshoe shaped stadium and athletics track somewhere, thank god that didnt end up getting built.

Sadly Stevenage have a very good away record, conceding only 19 goals away from home. So if we win its likely to be 1-0, which of course means us keeping a clean sheet . Their last fixture is at home to Bury (oh the irony). On a positive note though Accrington have an even better home record and also need a win to be sure of staying in the play offs. I reckon we'll have to go to Morecambe needing to at least match Barnets result against Vale.

I keep switching between accepting it and then not being able to consider it without feeling ill. To me, it's more of a case of never being non-league that's the kicker. I have no doubt we'd bounce back in the FL, be it one season or five, but even after returning our history will be 'tainted' by that relegation. I console myself by the fact that no-one else would give a **** if we've been non-league or not, and most probably assume we have before anyway. But still. Thats pretty much where I am. Part of me thinks the Conference is only slightly marginal more crappier than league 2, with half of league 2 made up of traditionally non league teams and vice versa. Then another part thinks will get out eventually, and when we do we'll come back stronger. But then I look at the fixtures against Alfreton, Braintree, Tamworth and Barrow and feel sick and angry that its even become a possibility.

us
Well there couldn't be any more signs of fate conspiring against us. We often change divisions when the year ends in a double number (66; 77; 99; 2000) and only missed 88 by one year. Beating a top flight club in the cup usually leads to relegation. We're the last league club to have escaped relegation on a technicality since re-election ended who hasn't subsequently gone down to the conference. (Put money on Kidderminster to win the play offs if we do go) When the Saints win a trophy we change divisions. and most notably the friggin starlings have disappeared.

Why would he be fuming? shows that he's had an impact on the team already that opposition players know they're in for a tough game and don't fancy the trip to Sixfields anymore. the players are showing Passion and are now prepared to get stuck in. I'm sure Johnson will be pleased at that.
much better reaction than we used to get with the tippy tappy sh*t under Gray and Sammo.
Absolutely agree. Branstons semi illiterate whine shows me that we're going in exactly the right direction. How often this season have we thought we've been bullied out of games?, or wished for a wise old warhorse in midfield? If Johnson keeps the team playing at a Carr style high tempo, and adds a bit of Atkins style no f'kin about then its alright with me.

Johnson lost something like 9 of his first dozen or so games at City.
I've no problem with him experimenting, or "throwing a few hand grenades in" at the right time, or starting with a clean slate next season.
But I'm worried that maybe it would have been better to concentrate more on results than experimenting until relegation became a real long shot and then start our pre-pre season.

Roughly the same place as we are now... Unless as I suspect there is an even bigger budget cut.
I said last season that within five years we would be in the conference.... I stand by it.
So dont you think we need to gamble and try and find a manager who can make the collective more than the sum of the individuals. Sammos had (roughly) the equivalent of two seasons worth of games in charge, with an average seasons worth of points around about the mid fifties mark (marvo will soon let me know if this isnt correct). To me that suggests he's at best mediocre. I take the point about budgets and the recent track record of appointments, and don't disagree, but still think its time to roll the dice.

I have decided not to renew my ST.
Me too. Not entirely down to the quality of football, I've got pretty much used to that over the last 24 years. More down to the sense of feeling that we're just going to continue to be mediocre in a sea of mediocrity until a lot of things change. I'll pick and choose games from now on and I think many will start to do the same.

The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Gone for a Burton-Match Thread...

Right here goes....
1st half was one of the worst performances from a Cobblers side for many a year, shockingly bad. How Sammo left Jacobs up front for the whole half when it clearly wasn't working is beyond me, ludicrous. You could tell 5 minutes into the half we were in trouble. Lumping long balls up to Jacobs and McKenzie was not going to work, whole team looked bereft of ideas and confidence. 1st goal was terrible defending by Hall really, 2nd goal was a great strike to be fair although Walker could have closed him down, and the 3rd Dunn dropped into the net, no idea what he was doing the dappy c***.
2nd half was much better but probably because they were so nervy in fairness but at least we showed a bit of passion. Ref was a disgrace, how he disallowed that 3rd goal by Jacobs i do not know, amazing. On 2nd half chances and possesion we probably deserved a point at least however that would have detracted from the sh*te that went before it.
People will probably blame the ref or the Burton players for diving and time wasting, don't, look closer to home for once!
Sammo proved tonight that he needs sacking, the team he sent out didn't have a clue, easy to tell em what to do when 3-1 down, attack and get at them, not rocket science.
Sad to say, but you're absolutely right.

I used to go in before every home game until our murial went. That was the last straw on top of waiting too long for flat, overpriced beers (or being charged way too much for coke if I was the DD).

it'll change come 4.50 next saturday big boy.
Believe me mate I'm with you. keep the faith. I actually started to work out the other day how many more promotions I might get to see before I shuffle off, based on an average of once every 11 years!! Then I thought f*k it, just enjoy the ride. (rather like that night I had with the rotund barmaid who used to work in the Fitzgerald Arms).
