what do you think? bloody 'ell deepcut. the playoffs of course. it has to be the playoffs. has no-one been listening to anything?

we've already run out of time auntie.

to get to 72 points we'd need an average of 2points per game, theres only two teams in the football league averaging that level of points, and even signing some much needed players wont give us chamionship winning form.

i'm afraid the height of our ambition now should be, avoid relegation, finish upper mid table, entertain, and sort out the team to start next season....... and that's sad.
62  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The Hotel end Home kit vote on: December 06, 2010, 19:10:10 pm
STOP VOTING FOR 4!!!!!

If 4 wins, there's a high chance of us getting that lovely bogey green number as our away kit next season...does anybody truely want that? Undecided

I think 4 looks good, and prefer the yellow away kit to the pinstripe one, so 4 and 16 get my vote.  Kiss

65  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The Sammo love in thread! on: November 21, 2010, 19:21:14 pm
anybody else reckon that Sammo is Phil Chard mark 2?

- for us a decent player in a decent team.
- a regular in the side, mr reliable and club captain.
- made a shed load of appearances, scored the occassional memorable goal, thereby achieveing legend status
- a thoroughly good bloke and a gentleman off the field
- thrust willingly into management when finances were stretched
- unable to bring in players of the same quality of his predessor
- started found wanting tactically
- brought in an old head to help out
- occassional achieved spectacular results
- and by the look of it ended up about the same place in the league?

what happened after Chard was of course much worse. god forbid we end up like that again.
66  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Dear David on: November 21, 2010, 18:59:29 pm

can't you see that Sammo hasn't got time to check for sticky balls what with sewing the words 'Front' and 'Back' into their underpants?
Grin
Maybe he should just say brown at the back lads, and start spending his time paint L and R on their boots then.
67  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Dear David on: November 21, 2010, 17:59:10 pm
I don't see it as a poisoned chalice at all. The right manager could get the best out of the likes of Johnson, Beckwith, Davis, Hall, Osman, Wedderburn Jacobs, Thornton and Mckenzie. We don't have a bad squad at all.

The problem is that Sammo doesn't have the tactical nous or organisational ability to get the best out of the players at his disposal. Nor does he prepare thoroughly enough or work out a coherrent plan to combat the oppositon (c.f. Davis et al's failure to take into account the tendency of the ball to 'stick' at Barnet). Nor does has he had the contacts or the pulling power to attract the one player who would make a huge difference to our season: a recognised target man.

The right manager would make a huge difference at this football club.

my thoughts exactly. The whole is currently less than the sum of its parts. There is enough about this squad to be a top half team at least.

Regardless of results my view is that so far I've seen 4 outstanding performances, 5 or so perfectly acceptable competant performances and around about 14 poor or very poor performances.

The worry is that Barnet style performances are becoming the norm and Lincoln type the exception.

I'd say that Bedford ... has little interest in football.

it did when Italy won the world cup.
69  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Car Sticker on: November 11, 2010, 21:03:48 pm
    Life's a load of Cobblers......

I'd buy that if it was white text on a Claret background.
Or with a small variation
Life, its just Cobblers.
or
Life, its all Cobblers to me.

I also think a sticker that said 'Northampton' and underneath said 'Saints....Cobblers....Steelbacks' in the three club colours would sell well.

My Leicester supporting mate reckons he's a real workhorse with a never say die attitude, but not a natural finisher.  A bit like Neil Grayson I suppose.

Steve, try reading this message board in the same way that you would read a comic.  TerryFenwick is Lord Snooty, Grove is Dennis the Menace and Marvo is Desperate Dan - then you'll find that you won't get wound up   Wink
73  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Centre Half on: November 02, 2010, 00:13:57 am
If Tozer came back, I'd be really tempted to go 3-4-1-2 using Johnson and Davis as wingbacks.

The three being Tozer, Hall and Beckwith (in that order?)

Every damn pub I went into on Friday night had loads of Saints flags inside and outside.

Could the trust look at buying a couple of hundred Cobblers flags and dishing them out to local pubs so that I can enjoy a pint a bit more.

They didn't look particularly expensive flags, and one accidentally fell of its mounting point when I was examining it for research purposes, so I doubt they cost that much.

thanks everso.
75  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Thornton on: November 02, 2010, 00:01:03 am
Thornton is not the sort of player to rely on when trying to out battle the average league 2 side.

If things were going well and the team was full of confidence he could have been the difference between making the play offs and not making the play offs, but in our current predicament, and with the team out of form he may well be the difference between getting out of a relegation fight and getting sucked into one. Certain games will suit his style of play, but right now he's a luxury we can't afford.

Personally the worst thing for me was that on Friday I'd had one of those microsoft office reminders to change my password.

Aha I thought, the last time it was password changing time I changed it to Southend, and we won our first game of the season.

Feeling very positive I of course changed it to Hereford. Now I shall be reminded of our second halk kamikaze football every bloody friggin day I turn on the PC at work until its time to change the damn password again or our IT department get their sorry arses into gear and re-set it for me.

(Having details of my password published on an internet message board will of course support my case)
