How much would a club expect to get after "selling" a 12 year old player? I thought it was a standard compensation around £40,000
That is assuming you mean Carney. I doubt there was much money involved around Caleb.

He was sold to Chelsea for £20m we had a sell on clause.
1984  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: January 2023 Transfer Window on: January 24, 2023, 12:18:24 pm
Exactly this - they smack of the types of signing we panic bought when we were struggling and had a bit of cash to flash. They might get lucky with 1 or 2, but most will just be back on the merry-go-round at the end of the season.

I'd much rather the club so what they are doing and invest in commiting existing players who are proven and established in the squad both in terms of playing and personality, ensuring that the dressing room is right.

If we were to do what Gills/ColU are doing right now, the same people would be complaining about that. Got to feel sorry for them really, can't be easy when everything is always terrible.
You do know we had 2 fit defenders on Saturday?

Yes, let's have a level playing field, and maybe stop denigrating the club and ownership at every opportunity. And lets be brutally frank, it wasn't the trust that activated the AVC, it was the current board....... two of whom were co opted by other board members
Absolutely wonderful isn’t it, our Trust, the one true voice of the fans protecting the interests of the club, I fully support them.

You would think that Gareth might vary it a little sometimes  Grin
You would but given it’s Gareth, you wouldn’t expect it.

So Peter and Dav, do you think that it's OK for KT to sell all 20 acres of the development land when there is no legal requirement for him to even finish the East ? Surely it's not asking too much for the 3 acres (ACV) land to be used for the benefit of NTFC rather than hem in the East Stand with warehouses, which would rule out, for ever, any expansion on that side, which in turn, pretty much condemns us to the bottom 2 divisions for ever.
I've said it hundreds of times, I've not got a problem with KT getting his money back and making a profit on the other 17 acres, as long as NTFC do well out of the deal but, frankly, building warehouse 50mts from the back of the existing steelwork not only rules out any future expansion but also any meeting rooms or bars that could be built onto the back of the East at minimal cost whilst it is completed, if it ever is. I don't think that's a good deal for NTFC.
Come on Kelvin, leave the ACV land, take the rest and do exactly what you want with it, make as much as you can, but don't be greedy !!!!!
Spot on with your last word there, greedy, but did you really expect anything else?
1988  General Category / General Chat / Re: Real Names & Accountability on: January 24, 2023, 11:26:13 am
True story.
I got ‘pulled up’ at work for using the term ‘banksman’ in a PowerPoint presentation by a female in the office. I’m pretty down with the kids and choose my language and terminology carefully, avoiding things like ‘guys’ etc.
It was no biggy and I responded by saying the person I was referring to was a man. She replied saying that I had assumed his preferred pronouns and gender identity…at which point I hit delete.
We have a 50 page HR document of dos and don’ts, things like not using capital letters in title slides, avoiding certain colours etc.
The bottom line is that people can find offence pretty much anywhere these days.

The worlds gone mad, I can promise you it was a better place 30 years ago.

It won't make any difference who's in power. looking from the outside, the task in turning that organisation around to perform to a reasonable standard is monumental and probably unachievable?
I agree Melly it’s broken beyond repair, unfortunately it has become a magnet for the lazy and militant left.
1990  General Category / General Chat / Re: The Monarchy on: January 24, 2023, 11:17:45 am
thank you by proving my point by using the classic attack line. It's not a 'typical lefty' stance. It's just using my learnt critical thinking which allows me form my opinions, along with helping me understand how people like you think.
Learnt critical thinking, brilliant, you must be important  Grin

Is there one of that standard available then?
Of course there is, if the money is there, which is should be after the Chucks money from Villa.
1992  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: January 24, 2023, 08:07:33 am
Northampton Town Football club will not move forward until the current owners are gone FACT.
1993  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: January 2023 Transfer Window on: January 23, 2023, 21:10:54 pm
They’ve always said they would only sign someone who improved upon what we currently have. I’ve not seen that many players traded at our level that fit that bill so far? Signing players for the sake of it in the past has turned out to be counter productive. So it’s worth pointing out that nothing would have often been better than something.
You mean like Collins, Marquis and Holmes? There’s plenty of quality players out there, and the likes of Gillingham and Col U have been making some very good additions.
1994  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: January 2023 Transfer Window on: January 23, 2023, 18:25:27 pm

Orient have x2 centre halves out for a good period and sign x2 very good replacements .
We could barely field a centre half on saturday due to injuries and cannot get a replacement in .
It questions the ambition of this club in my view .
Plenty of media bluff but where’s the evidence .
It’s all down to Thomas, promise nothing, deliver less.
1997  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Mansfield @ home on: January 21, 2023, 09:35:20 am
I wonder if they'll consider doing the same as they did with Carlisle and re-arrange it this week. Supposed to be 8 degrees on Wednesday.
Given the injury list and illness I’d be amazed TBH.
1998  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Mansfield @ home on: January 21, 2023, 08:58:13 am
I would question the 09:30 pitch inspection, but we obviously have a lot of players still out, we probably pulled the frost covers back by the south car park.
If I was the club I’d put those frost covers in the skip, they should protect the pitch down to -4°c
1999  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Mansfield @ home on: January 21, 2023, 08:16:14 am
Pitch inspection at 9.30am. Way too early, of course this early is likely to be colder. Think with the distance from Mansfield (time for travelling support) waiting till 11am would have been fine!
Completely agree, why 09:30, the club obviously want it postponed.
2000  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: January 20, 2023, 08:59:44 am
Velodrome, 24/7/365 -Car Boot, Cage Fighting Arena, Voi Scooter Trick Ramps and Dry Ski Slope to replace Skew Bridge.
With ideas like that you should have a career in urban planning. Grin
