61  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: John Kurila RIP on: March 06, 2018, 17:43:37 pm
I wasn’t lucky enough to see him play although I have obviously heard the stories of what a good player he was - can anyone tell me what position he played as he chron says centre half, Wikipedia (I know) has him down as a wing half (I believe this is equivalent to the modern midfielder)?
Correct - he was a wing-half. Branston was the centre-half. The Chron have some decent sports reporters but this was written by one of their general reporter bods. I've e-mailed but they rarely correct errors, and some of them get affronted when you point out their factual errors and even their spelling or grammar.
62  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: J F H on: February 15, 2018, 08:37:19 am
In news today he bemoans the lack of consistency of his players - but he's the one constantly tinkering with tactics and who he plays where! He really does need to seek help.
63  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: J F H on: February 14, 2018, 11:13:21 am
All I can say is that so far his tactical nous has proved totally naff and it's in all our interests that he gets it right asap!

OMG the Snowflake Society is trying to get a foothold on here as well.
Each snowflake is unique and beautiful. I'm getting hacked off with the continued over-use of the word as an intended insult.

It's gut-wrenching when your club faces Administration - as we know only too well. As long as there's a reasonable chance that any donation from this end will help them, we should do it. As a precaution any intended funds can be pledged with a firm promise but not released until there is a reasonable level of certainty as to their effectiveness.
67  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Positives to be taken from the Rochdale game on: February 08, 2018, 08:31:20 am
Here's my list of positives from the Rochdale game:-
1) Um....
2) Er...
3) Well....
4) Ah....
5) But....
6) Drat...

I know you have an issue with ize/use ; you have reprimanded some on here before. If you don’t mind I prefer to remember my old Greek tutor comments. It’s not really an error to use both. Also you don’t need to patronise me either!

Patronise or patronize?
American spellings are for America, English for UK.
69  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Rochdale on: February 03, 2018, 16:41:43 pm
Can't even begin to analyse it because SO much was wrong. A mess from start to finish, and given that half-a-'plane load connected with the Chinese consortium had flown over for it, a particularly bad time to play like drains.
70  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Richards Leaves on: January 15, 2018, 16:32:47 pm
If he's going to play elsewhere at a lower level, all the best to him. If not and we haven't tried to retain him in some coaching or ambassadorial job then its a shame.

I am happy for the first time since Oxford away.
72  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Wigan Athletic (H) 01/01/18 on: January 01, 2018, 17:47:47 pm
It was a better performance but with points the only commodity of value it was in that sense a failure. If the expected new blood starts to bring in points we have hope but it's going to be a massive ask. Essentially we need to spend the money now that we shall otherwise lose by being relegated.
73  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Portsmouth (A) 30th December on: December 30, 2017, 13:53:18 pm
I'm happy with that lineup. Despite our league position, still a great turnout from our fans. C'm on Cobblers, give us everything.
A Portsmouth friend said they couldn't get a ticket - but plenty of empty seats in the home stands.
74  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Walsall (H) 16th Dec on: December 15, 2017, 13:50:37 pm
All player know how to play 4-4-2 so instead of confusing them just stick to it. Admittedly it normally needs a couple of decent strikers BUT so do most combinations.
75  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Time for changes before January on: December 12, 2017, 11:58:06 am
I do think we actually look pretty good when we have wingers fit (maybe for a maximum of a couple games this season?). This is why I believe if we sign 2 better wingers (and at least one striker as a minimum), we will see an upturn in performances and results. Last couple of games I feared a hammering when seeing the amount of central midfielders we're squeezing into one starting eleven.

It could be argued this is JFH's fault for not adopting a (dreaded) wing back or a diamond formation. But the likes of Melville and JED still have my blame at the moment. Personally, I'd be looking for a wing back formation if Hoskins and Powell are not available going forward with McGugan and Crooks playing behind Long.
Wingers create goals. Always have always will. Get your crosses in, you win games - although clearly there must be a proper striker on the end of it - which is our second problem. Then of course there's a third problem - hardly any ball winners or play-direction changers in midfield! A fit JJO'T is a prime example of one of those. So basically, having written all that I suppose I'm saying we need to offload 50% of the current squad and replace them with what we're missing! Depressing.
76  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: An opinion based on going to a game not just the last one at ice station zebra on: December 11, 2017, 08:31:50 am
The bloody madness of not going to a game and then typing sh!te after sh!te about what you think,
nobody cares what you think unless you were one of the die hard 300+

i went it was terrible,
but it has always been terrible apart from the one season in 20
when the miracle of Wilder turns up(right balance of players playing an solid system)

Here is a shock to your system
Northampton Town will always be a lower league team,
now stop spitting feathers and get used to it........

we will never be in the Prem/play in the Champions league/win a cup,
we make up the numbers like most football teams,

The players don't give a sh1t(it is JOB to them) they dont care if the shirt is blue, yellow, red or claret(it is a JOB)
they are journey men average talent footballers, if they were any good they wouldn't be playing for us,

How depressing never to have a realistic hope of Championship football. Currently yes, we're in a mess and the only short-term aim is to avoid relegation....BUT after some moderate ground expansion this town is well-placed to support Championship football and in doing so it would not be boxing very far above its weight. To say "Never" is deeply depressing. The town is expanding massively and the thousands of people coming in don't have the 1960's "We'll always be a small club" mentality that frequently blights this site.
77  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Northampton NIL on: December 10, 2017, 02:49:41 am
Byrom was basically replaced with Danny Rose for the closing part of the season anyway. Can accept he probably wasn't up to League One standard.

I, for one, am excited to see what Chinese money and JFH can summon in January. It really will be the difference between League One and League Two next season.... but more importantly (for me), the difference between entertaining football and the dull shambolic performances we're currently putting up with. I honestly expect our half season ticket sales to be sat in single digit figures.
The worry is that the Chinese may well just be happy enough with the foothold they have and may not actually care about  the FL level we play at enough to stick their hands into their money pockets again: certainly sitting near a group of them at a relatively recent home game they were laughing and joking and didn't seem to be sharing the pain and horror of the rest of us. If they buy us out of this malaise then fair play to them BUT they may just ride the horror train like the rest of us and shrug their shoulders.
78  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: An Oldham fan's view: Oldham 5-1 Cobblers MATCH REPORT on: December 10, 2017, 02:42:54 am
Not sure why we'd want to read a review of that s***e.
What was produced by the Cobblers may have fitted that description, but it's a bit unfair not to see where the Oldham fan is coming from - it was a good win for them.
79  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Oldham (a) 9th Dec on: December 10, 2017, 02:39:41 am
That air of untouchable arrogence, almost like how dare you ask me that I did not like.

Bit of decent questioning from Tim as you say for a change!
Tim's a good journalist, he needed to ask that - and I'm sure it won't be the last time our dear manager needs to be challenged!
80  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Oldham (a) 9th Dec on: December 09, 2017, 16:44:20 pm
I really want to say "Well done" to all fans who travelled. I know how much it hurts when the side you love is an embarrassment, and it really is ! These are testing times in the extreme and the club has to somehow fashion a solution...letting it drift is not acceptable. Why are we so naff at finding the right person to manage our club?
