Millwall winning at Carlisle!  Cool

Don't...too soon.

There's still a chance we can stay up if we lose against Plymouth but we need two of the following three scenarios to happen (as well as us beating Walsall and Oldham):

- Walsall lose all their remaining games (Scunny A, Northampton H, Bradford A, Fleetwood A)
- Oldham pick up a maximum of 1 point from their remaining games (Wimbledon A, Southend H, Doncaster H, Northampton A)
- Rochdale pick up a maximum of 2 points from their remaining games ( Bradford H, Plymouth H, Oxford A, Charlton H)

If we draw with Plymouth then we need two of the following four scenarios to happen (as well as us beating Walsall and Oldham):

- Wimbledon lose all their remaining games (Oldham H, Wigan A, Doncaster A, Bury H)
- Walsall pick up a maximum of 1 point from their remaining games (not against us) (Scunny A, Northampton H, Bradford A, Fleetwood A)
- Oldham pick up a maximum of 2 points from their remaining games (not against us) (Wimbledon A, Southend H, Doncaster H, Northampton A)
- Rochdale pick up a maximum of 3 points from their remaining games ( Bradford H, Plymouth H, Oxford A, Charlton H)

A win against Plymouth and it's all to play for.
3  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Looking ahead with our squad... on: April 17, 2018, 15:35:54 pm
This is all rather silly (the title of this thread) because  there will be no looking ahead with our squad.

1. Wage bill - circa 3 - 3.5million p/a
2. T/over in league2 - 4 million tops.

Now that the Chinese money that was never there in the first place isn't there anymore to pay for these players, where exactly do people expect the money to come from?

Unless our director who is propping things up at the moment (after initially selling out a few months ago) has had a change of heart and fancies spending a chunk of his kids (if he has any) inheritance on the Cobblers OR we find new rich investors who will be happy to take on a large loss making concern out of pure love for NTFC, Im fully expecting a mass exodus come early May onwards!

I think that would suit everybody.

This wouldn't surprise me, he pratically said in his interview when he joined he come for job security not the club. He never wanted to leave Scunny. Maybe if we appoint Alexander that might change..??

Sounds like he joined for the money. He could have easily re-signed with Scunny and possibly be playing Championship football next season.

The same Pierre that was consistently performing at league 2 level and had a trial at a championship club before we signed him?

I don't think we have seen enough of him this season to form a valid opinion to be honest.

I'm sure he'll be better in L2 next season and would certainly keep him on, but there's a reason he's never player higher than L2 before signing for us, and also why the Championship club passed on him this summer.

You are right that we haven't seen enough of him yet, but from what I've seen he has made a few clangers (which is what I was replying to in the first place - not calling him a poor footballer).

I too would rather see Poole than Barnett, but think Leon is there on experience.

Although, as we’ve seen with Taylor and Barnett...both are susceptible to at least one major unforced error a match! Easy to say now, but a wily Jason Taylor type DM in front of the centre backs would have helped us pick up a few more points this season. On Saturday we need JJOT to get a big meaty challenge in early doors (a la Shrewsbury at home) to lift the crowd.

Aaron Pierre can’t be far off a return now?

Pierre is just as much a liability I'm afraid. At least 2 new centre backs are required if we go down.
7  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: DEAR MR THOMAS- More questions than answers? on: April 11, 2018, 10:23:12 am
I'd suggest he doesn't/didn't fit the description given that he had just had a failure on his CV in the same league we were in.

If we could identify a manager in non-league/league 2 who was in his second or third job and hadn't been sacked they would be worth looking at. That was Wilder's profile, that is Danny Cowley's profile but of course he is out of our league now.

Is there someone out there with that profile that we could get? I don't know but the club should.

Doesn't always work. Neil Aspin had a good record with non- league clubs Harrogate, Halifax and Gateshead. Port Vale took a punt on him and they languish near the foot of League Two.

Can't see Tisdale joining a club on the declineclike us. If he does leave Exeter I think a top end L1 club would take a punt on him.
9  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: JIMMY OUT! on: March 30, 2018, 19:48:41 pm
Nearly 3 hours after the game and still no word from the club. Something is happening. I can feel it!!

The club didn't post any club related for about 12 hours after the last game. Can't see him going until after the Boro game next week.

The saddest thing about it is that post January, I don't think we've even got one of the four worst squads in this division in terms of ability.

13  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: NORTHAMPTON TOWN PARTNER WITH 5USPORT on: March 29, 2018, 19:54:19 pm
To be fair wasn't it pretty much common knowledge that the window reinforcements were via bower and not the Chinese? Can't say I'm disappointed with this to be honest - it was pretty farcical from the beginning and the fact that we didn't hear a peep out of them spoke volumes.

I didn't know that. Makes the Chinese leaving rather irrelevant then?
14  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: NORTHAMPTON TOWN PARTNER WITH 5USPORT on: March 29, 2018, 19:47:22 pm
"With continuing problems in receiving the money from 5USport, a deadline was set, and when that wasn’t met, the shares were returned to the ownership of Thomas and Bower’s NTVL."

So KT funded all the January transfers himself?

Well that was short lived. #Skint for real now!

I think you are one of the first to include Crooks; that formation looks ok although vV and Poole are notable omissions.

Crooks is a funny one; when he's playing well he is excellent. But he goes missing quite a bit too. I'd forgotten about Poole; is he match fit after being left out of the squad for so long?? KVV is certainly not fit enough currently.

                  R'OD

       Moloney  Taylor  Turnbull

Facey                              Bunney
           Crooks   McWilliams

      Hilda                     Ariyibi

                   Long

Same formation as England. I don't believe for a second that will be the line-up!

There, amended!

Charlton have just changed their manager and immediately beat a Plymouth side who had only lost once since November.

They’ll beat us too.

Crooks and Grimes together in centre midfield is a tried and tested failure that Jimbo seemingly can’t wait to repeat.

They beat Plymouth yes, but had only won once in their previous 8 games.

Is Harry Kewell going to have an immediate impact? It's a surprise appointment IMO and probably just another man through the revolving door at the Valley (until new owners come in).

On paper yes they should beat us, but I really think we will cause an upset tomorrow.
