41  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Louis Moult on: September 14, 2013, 18:45:04 pm
Lets be honest, when he did play for us, did he really ever look like he would be our main striker?

When push comes to shove, in the same situation I think most of us would have shifted him off the wage bill with the evidence at the time.  Hindsight is a wonderful thing, plus he needs to prove this isn't a purple spell and he can actually sustain this before we should kick ourselves.

So David Mackintosh has just confirmed it is the stadium.  Not that exciting then.

All those that think they are in the know, should now post what they think it is and then at 7pm we will finally see who has their nose in the right place and who is full of it!!!!

45  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: So where is everyone meeting up..which pub or pubs? on: May 15, 2013, 21:36:53 pm
So guys, whats the general consensus for drinking around wembley park b4 the game, the Torch or the First Class Sports Bar?  I normally use the sports bar before England games and have never tried the Torch.  I just want to go where the bigger teyn crowd will be for the best atmosphere.
46  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: ANY TIPS ON PUBS B4 OUR WEMBLEY FINAL ?? on: May 08, 2013, 10:27:07 am
Dunno what it was called but I liked the one I was in before Swansea before it all went títs up. Big place on a main road if that helps. The offy just down from it got robbed blind as well Evil

I believe that was the wetherspoons JJ Moons.  The poor shopkeeper couldnt work out why both his shelves and till were empty!!!!
47  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Nana Ofori-Twumasi on: May 07, 2013, 15:57:58 pm
I always liked Nana, was good with the fans, turned up to support the team even when it was clear he wasn't getting a look in, and injured himself badly taking one for the team. Best of luck too him. He's got (or at least had) the physical attributes to become a good player, just needs to get some more match experience I feel.

well said that man.  After a career threatening injury and being completely frozen out by ADB, he could easily be bitter, but you can see from his comments on Twitter that he is still desperate for us to do well.  I have spoke to him personally a few times and he is a really nice guy and I hope everyone wishes him all the best.  He is a man who quite literally put his career on the line trying to do his best for us.

Just done the same, totally painless.
49  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Cheltenham on: April 04, 2013, 07:47:47 am
I know the cheltenham game is old news now  Grin  but I just thought I would give a rare compliment to an opposition player.  I thought Marlon Pack was one of the best players we have seen this season.  He seems to always find the hole just outside of the box and be in a position to fire a shot off.  I would absolutely love him to play in our midfield.  I know he looks like a pretty boy beckham wannabe, but I thought his football was superb.
50  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Top 50 Football League Players on: April 04, 2013, 07:45:01 am
I just want to offer a different point of view....

IMO Bayo is trying as hard as ever.  However, I think because he is our poster boy, the player with the big rep, the player a team must stop to beat us etc... every team we play are massively focusing on keeping Bayo out of the game, which is brilliant because whilst they set themselves up to contain Bayo, double team him and not let him have any space, the rest of our team are benefiting.  Platt and O'Donovan must love playing alongside Bayo because they know they are an afterthought for the other defence.

Maybe Bayo is happy to sacrifice his own goals and is doing a "job" for the team?  In fairness, has Bayo ever done anything on the pitch to suggest he is in it for himself and not for the team?  He is clearly extremely popular with the other players, so I would suggest he is definitely a team player.

Sorry for going against the general consensus, but I think the argument needs a bit of balancing.....
51  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: End of the honeymoon period aidy on: February 02, 2013, 16:46:23 pm
There is absolutely nothing wrong with his tactics.  The problem is the players are not mentally strong enough.  It was the problem for the past two seasons and it takes time to put right.  At home they are mentally strong enough but away they are playing in their shells and bottling it.

Look at how we are losing, individual mistakes, people losing concentration, not making that crucial target, passing when you should be shooting.

To change the squad mentality takes a long time as you have to wait for people to leave.  It will be another year before all of the Sammo/GJ players are gone.  It will then be his squad and then we can fully judge.

Look at the McDonald goals for the Gills the other night, was it our tactics that gave Lee a rush of blood to the head???  Even fergie couldnt put out tactics that stop that kind of thing!!!!
52  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: End of the honeymoon period aidy on: February 02, 2013, 16:34:28 pm
Are you serious?Huh?Huh?Huh???

He is a victim of his own success!  He has turned us round too quick.  If he had produced a team that was about 14th in the league all season we would be saying he is a hero, but because we have put ourselves in with a shot of being up near the top and have then fallen away, we are starting to get on his back.

Some cobbs fans need to get a grip.  Threads like this are embarrassing.
53  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Unofficial Winter transfer "rumours" Thread on: January 22, 2013, 10:21:13 am
Cody Mcdonald has gone to Gillingham on loan.

If this is true, then I can't see them taking Bayo as well.  Maybe DC has scared them off with our asking price, and they are going to wait until the summer for the big man?

I can't see the McDonald thing confirmed anywhere officially yet but Sky Sports are reporting it as if it is a certainty.  Either way we win here, if its true then that might help keep Bayo, if its not true, then it shows Cody is available and with ADB's links to Cov we might be able to poach him.  I would happily see Bayo go in exchange for Bayo.  We miss Nicholls and desperately need a small/quick man to play with either Bayo or Platt.
54  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Away prices on: January 04, 2013, 13:53:55 pm
They're actually set up to do okay. True, the chairman has pumped cash in but mainly on infrastructure. They got good money for Vardy so it's not all his cash. I don't think they're finding it as easy as some of their dafter fans thought it would be and they've made some bum signings. But Mellon has gone now and Alexander seems to have galvanised them. I wouldn't class them as nonentities.

Blah, I think we have enough to take them, just hope we do. Couldn't bear the ribbing if they beat us.

I used to work for a company that installed equipment in the infrastructure that Griggs built at Nene Park in the stadium, the corporate bits and the Airware Sports centre.  Whilst this infrastructure was great at the time, it ended up being the Achilles heal.  It is ok building good infrastructure and facilities, but not many people realise how expensive it is to maintain these buildings and to replace the core equipment and materials within them when they get to the end of their lifecycle.  If Diamonds had been playing in a bog standard stadium (concrete stands, no major infrastructure behind it, no bells and whistles) they would have been ok when the money and the crowds backed off.  If you compare Sixfields, and Nene Park, the ongoing costs to run and maintain Nene Park are crazy amount more.
55  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Will Bayo move in the January sales? on: January 04, 2013, 13:25:56 pm
I really can't see us selling Bayo.  There is no value in it for us.  I would be surprised if we would even be offered 50k for him!  Don't get me wrong, I love Bayo and am desperate to see him sign on for another couple of years.  But lets have a dose of reality.  The only clubs going to take him are either a league one or league two club.  The current economic situation has brought a dose of reality to most chairman, so the chances of someone bidding big on a 30 year old, to get anything between 3 and 4 months of football out of him when they can wait and pick him up for free in the summer are pretty slim.

Then look at it from Bayo's point of view, he looks happy enough here and not desperate to leave.  So even if he does fancy a change of scenery, he is smart enough to know that if he hangs on until the summer he can ask for the transfer fee (or a chunk of it) as his signing on fee.  Would Bayo rather DC gets say £50k now, or he gets a £25k signing on bonus in the summer???  Pure economics!  Plus by staying here, (hopefully) carrying on scoring goals, the only thing that will happen is that he will be in more demand and will be able to command a greater signing on fee and weekly wage.

Sussex Cobbler predicts Bayo will be here on 1st February, whether he will be here on the 1st September is anyones guess.
56  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Away prices on: January 04, 2013, 13:15:18 pm
Fleetwood are nonentities. Rushden and Diamonds mark 2 who will drop like a stone when the Chairman's cash runs out. Don't waste your thoughts on them.

Very wise words......  They are trying to play with the big boys when really they are at best a League Two sized club.  They will push on, make League One, maybe even the Championship if the chairman becomes really stupid, but it will all go wrong.  We have all seen this story played out too many times.....

Bore off...
58  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Higgs leaves Sixfields on: November 24, 2012, 17:56:44 pm
The challenge Nicholls will have is when he reaches the Wigan 1st team and naturally at that level with Wigan he will likely conceed a few goals.  He will then have to prove he has the character to be a top level keeper!
59  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Carlisle is back on: November 24, 2012, 17:52:45 pm
We conceed two goals and all of a sudden we are turning on CC, come on guys, the hell is that all about.  The guy hasnt had any pace in his whole career and he has done fine.  He is more than capable at this level, and his experience, attitude, and ability will be invaluable if we continue to genuinely be play off contenders.  I for one am delighted CC is back and look forward to him proving the doubters wrong.
60  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Small squad, SIX injured, equals ? on: October 08, 2012, 12:27:11 pm
I think ADB's logic stacks perfectly.  Option A - Have a larger squad of mediocre players who at best can hope for lower mid table but could flirt with relegation, or Option B - have a smaller squad of much better players who at best will give us a good chance of the playoffs, or if we get injuries we will end up in mid table obscurity.  He took option B and it still looks good to me.  Does anyone really believe even with the injuries, we are going to plummet towards the relegation zone?  lets be patient, this time last year we would have loved to have the squad we have now, lets not get greedy.
