The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: CURLE OUT.

................. I have watched the Cobblers for many years and have never known such protracted effort to remove a Manager purely based on a malevolent opinion from a few on here. As pointed out by at least three decent posters, pursuit of this suspect opinion will be disastrous and self-repeating. Lord help us if we have another bad day tomorrow.

The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Promotion - when do you know it is possible?

With regard to the Graham Carr promotion winning team I was convinced the Cobblers were certain to win promotion by the end of the previous season. There was so much talent in that side - it looked unstoppable.
It looked nailed on for a while that season, it just went a bit awry against Preston in an early April 87 night match. 1-0 loss up at Deepdale in front of about 17000, they looked imperious and the Cobblers looked a bit like scared rabbits in headlights. It was all ok in the end though.

couldn't agree more, but, sadly he had his demons.
I seem to recall that co-incidentally some local boozers either lost a lot of takings, or closed down altogether around this time...

My honest answer is that I don't know which of the models they are discussing at the moment. I haven't asked, I'm not involved with the project and I'm not on the Trust board any more. I'm going to let them crack on with it and find out more at the public meeting.
I suppose you could always ask your dad.

Here's my take on things. The parent company of the firm I work for got into financial bother a while back. It was nothing to do with us but it affected our cash flow and we had to go out and get a large credit facility put into place to tide us over. We got one and continued to operate as normal, but the company that offered the facility did so at a premium. We had to take it because without it we'd have been in trouble.
The company we borrowed from has no affinity with us or our line of business, no loyalty to us and no long term interest in our success - they simply saw a business opportunity and took it. Maybe they were taking advantage to a degree but the truth is, we owe them our survival.
The same is true for KT and DB. They are football people, certainly but first and foremost they are businessmen. They aren't Cobblers fans and they have (I presume) no long term desire to stay at the club. They didn't leap in out of the goodness of their hearts. They saw an opportunity and took it. As much as it pains some people to admit, the bulk of that opportunity wasn't a L2 football team on the bones of its arse, it was the associated land that surrounds it.
At the time, I'm sure we'd all agree it was a mutually beneficial relationship - in the short term they bail us out, steady the ship and get the east stand usable again (which it is, even if it's ****) and in the medium term they turn a profit from developing the surrounding land and (ideally) finishing off the east stand before moving along.
The problem is, the medium term has turned out to be a lot longer than anyone anticipated and it's given some people time to think about it and start going "hang on a minute, he's not a Cobblers fan, he's just here to make money!" and have started to work themselves into a lather about it.
The truth is, when KT and DB bailed us out we were happy to take their hands off because it saved our club. Maybe it's just because I'm a cold hearted capitalist and not an idealist, but to me we owe them the chance to make their money back, just as my company will eventually have to pay off the expensive credit facility we were granted.
I think you've summed it up quite cogently there. The truth is sometimes hard to accept.

The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Carlisle United (H)- Saturday 12th January
|
on: January 09, 2019, 15:26:37 pm

......................
Carlisle are fifth in the league but could go second on Saturday with a win at Sixfields, if other results go their way. Carlisle have won their last six consecutive league games, including a 6-0 drubbing of Oldham Athletic on Boxing Day and a 4-0 win over promotion contenders Colchester United last month.
Well they've not only just lost their manager ( a strange move to leave a high flying L2 club for a lowly Conference club, even if it is close to your home), but they've also just lost one of their better strikers Nadesan, who's gone back to Fleetwood, and in his place have signed a very tall, young, 18yr old CF from Preston, yet to debut anywhwere but non-league. Carlisle should be there for the taking.

50% increase in everything we do, food and beverages sales, club merchandise, non matchday revenues all built up gradually with the full backing of our increasing support base with year on year targets that is achievable and sustainable. And no mithering of the poor council for free land and cash hand outs, no long protracted court room shenanigans with expensive lawyers fighting for god knows what or any benefits that may or not befall our club. Thomas needs to act in our clubs real interest our move aside, really bored of his inactivity now.
Are you for real? The 5th last word is very apt concerning your repeated diatribe. You're not from Lancs are you? "Mithering" is a good example, up there, of vocabulary which tells people to give over. Incidentally, you must have used the word "corporate" dozens of times in your rubbish; it's not "corpErate", by the way.

Roger why do you take delight in questioning use of other clubs re: Luton on this page, yet offer absolutely nothing in ideas or opinion when it comes to NTFC?
I understand as a Trust board member you don't want to upset the powers that be but it would be nice to know how you personally feel currently about NTFC and it's condition.
Afterall you spend a huge amount of time and money 'supporting' it.
I understood that he and his son were no longer on the Trust's board, not sure if this is correct now, according to your post.

I don’t know who said today is the day but nobody has left yet . Nothing is certain either but there’s a lot of pressure to sell.
If we end not losing any star player we have done very well .
I had to look twice there, I was sure you said "star" player...

...... Interestingly though, I seem to recall that Donald was a large part in paying off the compensation for Wilder to leave Oxford and come to us. Can't remember where exactly I read it, but pretty sure.
Definitely; it was widely commented that his major sponsorship of Oxford Utd evolved into paying for the compensation when Wilder left them.

Grow up - it's nothing to do with a hate figure.
Rational supporters make observations on what they see - your tiresome defense of anything claret and irrational accusation on anyone who differs shows remarkably narrow & somewhat immature thinking. ......
I think you've represented the honest opinion of a lot of fair-minded Cobblers fans there. He will not countenance much (if any) critical appraisal of the players, and reacts unfairly to those with opposing views. The team has let everyone down this year, after being in a position to promise much previously. Yes the club has been very badly led, but the majority of fans can clearly see the major fault lines. He doesn't for the most part. That's his right I suppose. You have to acknowledge that he's a committed supporter, a blind-faith one. It doesn't excuse one-eyed thinking though.

Quite simply our well known 120 year old product is our selling point with its central location and excellently located ground with a ready to tap 750,000 catchment, is worth a lot more than you obviously believe........
Hello Walter, how is Mrs Mitty?

I disagree with yr comments, your mixing up honesty etc with the ‘give ups’! Some even use the poor form as an excuse not to go even to the home games! TO confirm they have sold over 400 tickets. Clearly relatively few agree with you!
Well I have to admire your "gallows humour" at least.

You lot must be great fun at Christmas Most of "that lot" are surely being honest, truthful and realistic aren't they? They're long suffering supporters, like yourself, and are fed up of false dawns, false promises, false expectations, and....now.... have.....had......enough.

.............. So much of it is about getting the chemistry right . We are never going to afford the best players and so it has to come from within - as it did under the legends Wider and Knill .
As well as all the players they brought in.

Sampson should never have been sacked, the way he was, he was treated very badly in my opinion.
Agree and would quite happily see him back. The team had some pride and he instilled the passion to win at Anfield. Dont know what he's doing at the moment though?
Angling for a job I expect.
