1  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The Big One? on: December 05, 2018, 17:25:08 pm
I hope a B team does get to Wembley and I hope it's an embarrassment played in an empty stadium.
2  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Trust Making Bid for Fan Ownership? on: December 02, 2018, 17:03:40 pm
On what possible basis can NTFC be worth 2m??
3  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Trust Making Bid for Fan Ownership? on: November 28, 2018, 14:04:21 pm
Interesting post on the Trust's Facebook page this afternoon (

Sharing an article from Supporters Direct marking 15 years of fan ownership at Exeter City they've added the comment:

"Remember Brian Lomax issuing a rallying call to Exeter fans at Sixfields in 1995? One Grecians fan carried a banner saying 'Don't Let Our City Die'. Exeter City has been supporter-owned since 2003. It is time for the original Supporters Trust to look at a model for Northampton Town."

Ash Taylor is a caricature of what a defender should be.
5  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The Kieth Curle Post Honeymoon period on: November 28, 2018, 13:33:01 pm
I'm not excusing last night's result / performance but let's just take a moment to look at what Curle has got to work with. I have excluded youth teamers.

Cornell - lower end league 2 / top end conference keeper
Coddington / Ward - unproven at league level

Facey / Odoffin - young PL academy drop outs, the odd good game but obvious flaws in their game particularly decision making
Taylor - a caricature of a centre half, surely on his last professional deal.
Pierre - erratic will look decent with an old head along side him IMO.
Turnbull - decent league 2 defender, but probably not physical enough.
Buchanan - way past his best. Surely on his last deal at EFL level.

Bridge - no evidence to suggest he is a league standard player on a consistent basis. Probably signed as he's mates with DA.
McWilliams - young player, inevitably inconsistent
O'Toole - way past his best. Surely on his last deal at EFL level.
Crooks - best player in the squad, easily capable of L1 football.
Powell - way past his best. Surely on his last deal at EFL level.
Foley - good player but seems to be a serial loser as he is involved in an awful lot of poor / relegated teams.
Kasim - does he exist?

Hoskins - clearly not an EFL level footballer.
Williams - solid L2 pro, will get goals.
KVV - too good for this league, but can't mix it with the physical side so most likely an expensive luxury we can't afford.
Morias - good L2 pro, will get goals if he's fit / not suspended.
Bowditch - must've thought it was Christmas when JE gave him a 2 year deal.
Waters - jury's out, not sure he's consistent enough to be anything other than a middle of the road L2 player.

So we can see that he's managed to win 40% of the games in charge so far with a squad that is totally unbalanced, has no quality out wide and many players in key positions on the decline/in the twilight of their careers at EFL level.

Yes, the style has been a bit so-so but I said in August that the top 10 would be a strong achievement for this season and I still stand by that.
6  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Taking of Grimsby Pelham 123. November 24/11. on: November 24, 2018, 19:53:08 pm
Decent first 30 mins although we didn't create heaps of chances, and then the rest was dross.

Back to the bad old days in the second half. Can't think of one player who I thought had a game I'd give more than a 6/10 today, except maybe KVV for his free kick.
7  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Checkatrade Trophy Draw on Friday on: November 22, 2018, 22:16:17 pm
Based on round 1 this year crowds are:
Down 4% year on year, 10.7% if you exclude Sunderland.
30% lower than what they were before B teams came in.

8  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: November 22, 2018, 11:42:19 am
The issue is becoming more pressing given the climate English football finds itself, particularly with future distribution of TV and streaming money.

There is not an awful lot to distinguish NTFC from non-league clubs in terms of facilities and infrastructure. The gap appears to be widening between the leagues and we have to be making the club more self-sufficient in the short-medium term.

It's fair to say that in the time the East Stand has stood incomplete, other similar sized clubs have left us for dust in infrastructure improvements and that is a definite concern.

Even Accrington Stanley have made more progress on infrastructure than we have.

I would absolutely take a point from this game, particularly if we have no Crooks.
10  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Checkatrade Trophy Draw on Friday on: November 14, 2018, 12:53:28 pm
It will be nauseating if all the happy clapper day trippers come out of the woodwork to go to Stamford Bridge.
11  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Lincoln City (A) 10/11 (FA Cup R1) on: November 12, 2018, 11:38:26 am
One of the few things JFH got right was his assessment of Buchanan. He just bought the wrong replacement.

Hopefully his successor will be given a better time than the treatment meted out to Bunney.

Pain in the backside to get to by road as well...
13  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Fulham u21's 6/11 (EFL Trophy) on: November 07, 2018, 13:03:03 pm
Because the premise that the B teams being in the Chuckletrade enables them to bring on young players is a complete sham.

"That Buchanan is our best player, he is too good for this league."

I won't be fuming anywhere don't worry  Grin

But the facts are that it isn't a first team fixture, and the opponent is not a first team opponent. Most PL clubs farm out players who are ready for 1st team football at any level on loan, so what happens is that the Chuckletrade U21 teams are a mish-mash of the 3 allowable over-age players and some youth teamers.
16  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Fulham u21's 6/11 (EFL Trophy) on: November 06, 2018, 14:48:03 pm
Hopefully, a crowd of nearer 2000 will turn up!

I've never been to one of these games before but the team are playing well and we've some cracking youth players coming through.
A fair few will more than likely play and this competition might be the only realistic chance to see them get some minutes in a competitive 1st team match.

Only a fiver & beats sitting indoors

Looking forward to it...

Go and watch the FA youth cup fixture next week.

The Chuckletrade is not a first team competition, that's why suspensions don't count in league fixtures. It's a barely glorified training game.

Endorse Shaun Harvey's latest brainfart of an attempt to suck up to the PL, or spend money watching our own youth team. I know what I would rather do.

17  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Head Down Hoskins on: November 06, 2018, 14:44:03 pm
You'd have thought that if Hoskins was that bad then one (or all) of our managers him would have noticed and stopped playing him. Even the poor managers we've had are significantly more qualified than any of you to decide if he adds any value to the team.
For the record, I like him as a player and think we are better with him in the team, than not... but agree his end product is frustrating non-existent.

Fixed that for you  Grin
18  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Fulham u21's 6/11 (EFL Trophy) on: November 06, 2018, 13:11:49 pm
Hopefully a crowd of less than 1,000 will turn up.
19  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Poppy shirts on: November 05, 2018, 09:18:43 am
Slightly out of whack but any idea why we observed a minutes silence for all those hero's who fought and made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and a 60 year old Thai billionaire who crashed his chopper with Miss Thailand on board ?

I know most stadiums did the same but and although very sad he has absolutely no relevance to anyone at Teyn whatsoever

I'm proud of my family's efforts in the War and the sacrifice that they made and the game before armistice day is always a special one for me , especially with our own Mr  Walter Tull

Was like,  we're having a minutes silence anyway so may as well stick the Leicester guy in aswell

I sometimes feel we're losing it meaning

Anyway,  it's a broader point than just a Cobblers thing , was just a thought

What has his nationality got to do with anything?
20  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Head Down Hoskins on: November 04, 2018, 16:29:05 pm
One decent cross aside he was dreadful in possession yet again. He's the one player in the squad who I'm genuinely surprised when he produces anything in an attacking area.
