101  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: March 07, 2018, 15:38:43 pm
In ALL our interests especially those 10s of thousands of young locals who they and friends have yet to be convinced to be a regular at their home town/county  club due to the decades of neglect and the down right amateurish look of the place.

As an observation, the words after club are a bit fanciful. Cool

1997 onwards. In terms of a balanced and complemented side, I would go for:

Brad Johnson

I'd be shoehorning in Sammo and Martin Smith into my all-time favourite XI though in place of Gyepes and Jacobs.

IMO the LB selection and two centre halves are a bit suspect Cool The choice of midfield is well thought out and will work. The selection of Bayo and Forrester will also. Little and large!  Good.
103  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Best ever Cobblers side (in your lifetime) on: March 07, 2018, 14:30:02 pm
GK: Brian Harvey

RB: Phil Neal
LB: John Gregory

CB: Terry Branston
CB: Ray Warburton

RM: Ricky Holmes
CM: Trevor Morley
CM: Brad Johnson
LM: Joe Kiernan

CF: Cliff Holton
CF: Alec Ashworth

Andy Woodman
Luke Chambers
Richard Hill
Eddie McGoldrick
Jamie Forrester
Frank Large

Crikey Sainty thought Brian Harvey was a few decades earlier. Like your sub of Frankie too. Not a criticism just innocent comment. Cool

ps and the late great Cliff Holton too, easily our best ever centre-forward. In fact, I support this selection as I just have to succumb to the temptation. Everitt as well - the original ladies man! Or was that Alec Ashworth? No Theo Foley the 100yd run up penalty specialist? Why have so many forgotten Eddie Eddie?
104  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Best ever Cobblers side (in your lifetime) on: March 07, 2018, 12:25:16 pm
Tricky to answer too many good players!
Bayo or Hubertz
JJOT or Hunter
Warburton or Gypes
Sampson or Carlisle

Sounds like a riddle for GPC to solve based on form, ability and season circumstances.
105  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Injury Updates.... on: March 06, 2018, 19:01:29 pm
I was referring to when they misdiagnosed Moloney, and deemed the rest of the summer period to be sufficient. Only to injure himself in his first preseason game vs Sileby and needing an operation, thus missing preseason and the start of our 2016/17 campaign. Shambolic.

Now I see why shambolic is mentioned.
106  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: John Kurila RIP on: March 06, 2018, 17:30:01 pm
I wasnít lucky enough to see him play although I have obviously heard the stories of what a good player he was - can anyone tell me what position he played as he chron says centre half, Wikipedia (I know) has him down as a wing half (I believe this is equivalent to the modern midfielder)?

He played as a wing half but may have doubled elsewhere due to player injuries. His tackling was, shall we say fierce and as far as I can remember he never injured an opposing player. Another game I can remember was against Brighton at the old Goldstone Ground where he virtually tackled the Brighton fwds out of the game which incidentally we won 0-5! Apart from JJOT we don't have any player with same tackling ability or presence on the field, wish we had! One other thing, he was no Joe Kiernan or similar but he formed a good partnership with Branston, Derek Leck & Joe.
107  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Injury Updates.... on: March 06, 2018, 16:49:28 pm
Correct. And left the physio where he is.

The managing of Moloney and O'Toole in recent years have been shambolic.

Not sure about that - would have thought that the treatment of Moloney has been ok?  As for JJOT perhaps he has been overplayed but always got the impression that JFH has managed him ok with frequent substitutions. Just a different point of view; no pack drill!
108  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: John Kurila RIP on: March 06, 2018, 15:27:20 pm
A true Cobblers legend and many peopleís favourite ever player .
Sixfields will be a poignant place during the minuteís silence .
How we could do with him now .

To true!
109  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Brizzle rovers on: March 06, 2018, 14:14:49 pm
Half of me I'd looking forward to it, nice shirt trip up the road. Half of me is dredging it! The thought of Harrison and gaffeney  getting in and behind our defence time and time again with balls over the top could end in another hammering. That said I'm going to be posative and go for a 1-0 Ash Taylor header to settle it.

No Cool - JJOT with Taylor to clinch it 0-2. Not 100% I am able to make it!

Evers, he does have a point!
You are not a moderator, you are not the protector of the Cobblers faith, you are another punter with an opinion like any other.
If you disagree, disagree but do it as another punter with another view, not as someone who believes that they have the copyright on the correct answers/opinions.
You are allowed to express your opinion without constant heckling and/or sniping, allows others that opportunity.
Think before you press the button to post.

Point(s) taken - will have to learn to be more civilised in future. Will now only comment in line with Forum guidelines.
May the Lord help me.
111  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Relegation Watch on: March 06, 2018, 11:56:14 am
And you are a hypocrite.

Tied yourself up into a knot there Evers. This whole conversation started because it is you who cannot consider others opinions when they are opposed to yours and instead you start to question people's integrity/status as a fan.

I disagree with your comments & do appreciate opinions from others. Even the wonky ones!
112  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: John Kurila RIP on: March 06, 2018, 11:41:17 am
I know we have a RIP section elsewhere, but Big John, who passed away last night, was a Cobblers legend and also a top bloke. RIP Big John.

Very sorry to learn of this as he looked well and good recently. Echo your sentiments entirely. Never forgot his performance at Spurs out-tackling Dave McKay. Yes ...RIP Big John.
113  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Blackpool (A) 3rd March on: March 05, 2018, 23:22:05 pm
I was in Blackpool for a p155 up a few years ago and I met a girl from Ireland who was there on a 2 week holiday..

So what happened with the Irish girl?  Cool
114  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Relegation Watch on: March 05, 2018, 21:54:08 pm

We may be lucky, and hit 18th come the end of the season.

At least you are reasonably positive in a slightly worrying situation.

115  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Rallying Cry on: March 05, 2018, 21:44:11 pm
Totally agree on the away support. It's fantastic away (with the exception of Portsmouth where after 40 mins we fell apart - and certain 'fans' had their own ways of showing their anger at the end when the players came over to clap!!).

I'm fairly new to supporting anything football related. My father was heavily into motorsports (bike and car) in every form ; speedway, hot rods, formula 1, motorcross etc and had no interest whatsoever in football. Hence as a child I had virtually no exposure to football at all.

Fast forward 40 odd years, my son who is now 8 plays football for local clubs and academy teams and has thus given me a love for football. I started under Rob Page and I'm still here supporting !! Never had the glory of the Wilder days unfortunately, only the mediocrity of Rob Page, Justin Edinburgh and now JFH.  We started only ever sitting in the Mick George family stand and always thought that there was although quiet, a general positive vibe among the supporters on that side.  For the past 6 months or so we have more often been sitting in the West stand, where arguably the atmosphere is a little louder - but not always in a positive way. Lots of jeering towards JFH - some I can understand, but overall I don't think it helps the manager or the players. Yes, I too get p** off with some of the 'performances', but I know for a fact that the jeering won't make one bit of difference.

I sadly cannot make the Bristol away game, but I will be there to cheer them on come Rotherham. I really hope we can win this fight and stay in League 1.

Sorry for the random nature of my post, but I wanted to put in perspective that I've never seen NTFC in their glory days, yet I'm still here and here to stay as a supporter.

Good post and interesting to read. Good observation by you on the jeering side of things, as if it ever helps.
116  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Relegation Watch on: March 05, 2018, 21:34:32 pm
Why donít you give an opinion rather than picking holes in everyone elseís?

Sorry, don't understand your comment. Bit hasty on the keyboard again.
117  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Relegation Watch on: March 05, 2018, 20:33:03 pm
I think Jimmy might just target staying one point and place above Fleetwood to avoid that last spot. He'll set us up not to lose against them, and we all know what might happen!

I know you can be an accurate forecaster but even so have merely inserted 'might' in this instance. Just like to be a tad more on the fence!
118  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Relegation Watch on: March 05, 2018, 18:46:01 pm
Absolute rubbish .
I post a lot of positive comments about players on here when credit is due .
The reality is some supporters speak the truth and others wonít take any criticism of the club at all because itís their club .
Get real - this is football not a kids nursery .

I think most of your posts have a common anti Cobblers theme interspaced with grudging praise when you feel obliged. Don't fudge the issue with pompous statements like I speak the truth. It's ironic that you harp on about criticism yet this is a 'commodity' you freely offer at most opportunistic moments. Actually, I support your right to voice your opinion as you should do others; imo you appear to have a problem with opinions which are diametrically opposed to 'rubbish' frequently expressed.
119  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Relegation Watch on: March 05, 2018, 16:42:54 pm
Its going to be between us Fleetwood, The Wombles and Oldham for that last relegation spot. I think the bottom 3 are done..

Judging by the Oxford Forum they seem to think they are really in trouble so I have no hesitation in including them also. More the merrier!
120  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Relegation Watch on: March 05, 2018, 16:38:43 pm
I know I'm rising to the bait but I can't let this go - it's truly nonsense to suggest the definition of a true fan is their level of positivity or negativity - much as absolute negativity is somewhat depressing it simply represents an opinion (right or wrong), and equally unqualified positivity is an opinion.

Neither define if the individual is a true fan - take the case of a team rock bottom dozens of points adrift of safety - I'm sure the majority of their realistic fans would have far more negative than positive things to say - it's called reality and does not make them non-real fans.

We have had a dreadful season and my observations don't suggest much of an improvement in either playing style, attitude or points tally - therefore my conclusion is that staying up is very much in the balance.

There are opinions and opinions - I am sorry you take exception to my opinion! My opinion of B&S is of endless negativity which is a constant theme of his. You might consider being little more liberal in your opinion of others particularly those who happen to have a different take on things. On the hand, if the 'hat' fits ..........................
