In our last 10 games home and away, we've W6 D1 L3, collected 19 points and scored 22 goals.

So we got a hiding on Saturday. Every club gets one from time to time. The squad will no doubt go through what happened and take steps to prevent it happening again.

I think there needs to be a sense of perspective from some people on this thread. We have come on in leaps and bounds in the last 12 months, from being in free fall and absolute certainties for relegation to a decent, upper mid table side with a realistic chance of finishing in the top 7. We've also got some excellent players other than Akinfenwa such as Widdowson, Hackett and A Nicholls.

I agree that this league is poor, and there's no reason why we shouldn't do better, but surely some perspective is needed given the context of Aidy's recent work?

Admirable sentiments but not sure if you witnessed the Chesterfield,Barnet and Bristol games. As for Widdowson and Hackett at Chesterfield had you seen their performances you might well have expressed a more guarded opinion.

Wel said, Banana. I always enjoy Tozer's long throws. Got to be the longest I've seen in 50 years watching the Cobblers.

I can agree with you on this Grin

when some eejit down the front chucked what looked like a sausage roll at Clarke Carlisle when their third goal went in
Do they sell sausage rolls at Sixfields?

Your post is misleading - I sat just two rows behind the "Sausage Thrower" to the left of the goal. It was clearly a random throw and not aimed at CC who was in the centre spot. Unfortunately the "missile" landed near Langmead but further on from him was dear old Luke who at a guess was the intended recipient. Later I learned that the thrower was ejected for Offensive Language. To cap it all the "the thrower" was in the Royal Navy and was on one of the Coaches.

I know we're terrible away from home but it's not deterred me from going to Aldershot next Tuesday!

or me!!
10885  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Tactical options on: January 14, 2013, 22:07:38 pm
This is my biggest worry with Aidy. He's now signed two over the hills duds on long contracts and we're stuck with them. I'd much rather him sign an up and coming player but he clearly prefers experience.

CC will be ok - when he is at the races he's pretty impressive. As for Sir Clive  - this is more difficult to predict as on Sat he gave me the impression he was reverting to early season form! I get the impression you worry too much about unpredictable things - get a life mate and relax.
10886  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Chesterfield on: January 14, 2013, 13:08:33 pm
The net effect of such an inexplicably sh1te performance (from virtually the whole lot of 'em) is that it puts you off going. I had great hopes of a hard-won point or even three at Chesterfield, but when they capitulate so early on it makes you wonder what is going on. I had intended to make the long drive to Sixfields this coming Saturday, but I doubt I will. If our team can't make the effort, I don't think I'll bother either.

Great attitude Mate Roll Eyes  - still you will be missed Roll Eyes
10887  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Clive Platt on: January 14, 2013, 12:54:23 pm
I think if anyone has to carry the can, it's Aidy Boothroyd.

AB ? at fault Huh? Its difficult to select replacements for at least 8 under performing players. After all we were 3-0 and all at sea rudderless.
We do have a Captain namely Langmead and I did not see much evidence that he at least tried to rouse the team. Hindsight is a wonderful gift; did you go?
10888  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Clive Platt on: January 14, 2013, 12:31:54 pm
If you think Platt was the main problem then god help you

Platt was not the main problem - I dont think anybody has said he was. However his display on Sat was reminiscent of early season form.
10889  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The 'Clare Balding' POTS: Chesterfield (a), 12/01/2013 on: January 13, 2013, 23:09:38 pm
I am astonished at some of selections - presumably made by people not actually at the game.

Probably Nichols as he was not a field player! As for deducting points of CC - I would actually deduct points from all of them Lips Sealed

Hi,

I am a 16 year old Chesterfield season ticket holder and I write reports on the games I go to on my website. I thought you all might be interested in reading my report from yesterdays game as well as looking at the photos.

Thanks,
Ryan

Agreed good report but Guttridge made the mistake which led to Chesterfield's second -  sorry stand corrected it was the third!

10892  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Chesterfield on: January 13, 2013, 22:46:47 pm
Where would we be without Hackett and Bayo!!

bugg*r all if you insist on championing Hackett and Bayo. Hackett should have been withdrawn 1st half!
10893  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Chesterfield on: January 13, 2013, 22:42:58 pm
God knows what was wrong with us today, we just didn't turn up. The worst performance of the season.

Carlisle had a nightmare, Widdowson was subdued, Tozer kept getting dragged infield, Langmead struggled manfully but couldn't do it all himself and I don't think Nicholls could be blamed for any of the goals.

Actually, despite the scoreline, I think the main problem today was the midfield rather than the defence. They didn't hold the ball, win the ball or find the strikers... Hackett was ok second half but just couldn't get involved in the first, Harding was anonymous and Luke Guttridge had the worst game I've ever seen him have. I'd have subbed him after 20 minutes, it was that bad. Robinson deserves a bit of credit for his performance. It wasn't the type of performance you'd want him to put in, but he put himself about, filled gaps and made himself a nuisance.

Upfront, Platt looked ok without getting much and Bayo had a quiet one although to be fair neither got any decent service.

Still, hopefully today was just a blip. A bloody terrible blip.

I get the impression that you saw the same game as me! Once again (Backo' Net) highlights our awol midfield. As bad as the defence and fwds collectively played we know they can do better. I can only repeat ad nauseam that AB has to sort out the midfield. For a start move Tozer back there and recall Hornby!
10894  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Chesterfield on: January 13, 2013, 22:31:12 pm
Final word for the officials - Stuart Atwell and his pathetic excuses for linesmen. Their 90 minute performance was as pitiful as our first half performance was.

I wondered when somebody would moan about the lines man - but it is a fair enough moan. The ref certainly punished us for any perceived slight misdemeanour!

There is no point in continued moaning about last Saturday's game. We know we were very poor - most of the defence and fwds are generally ok - its the midfield we have to worry about. Until AB can fix it then our form will be up and down like a tarts knickers.
10895  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Chesterfield on: January 12, 2013, 23:13:01 pm
But you shouldn't be outclassed by a team in your own division, unless maybe that team has spent a disproportionate amount of money in comparison to yourselves. But Chesterfield haven't.

Teams are frequently outclassed even in their own back yard - It happens! Today Fleetwood who meet your criteria of "disproportionate amount of money" lost 3-0 at home to Bristol R who are bottom of the league! As for Chesterfield apparently they are also paying Mark Richards a "disproportionate amount of money" per month!!  By and large I agree with your comments but to criticize the know all's on here is a waste of time. After all only you and I know what utter rubbish they spought Roll Eyes
10896  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Chesterfield on: January 12, 2013, 22:59:36 pm
From your comments in the paragraph afterwards, it looks like we watched the same game.

PS You missed out Carlisle's airkick early on that left him shaking his head.

I did say that Carlisle's heading was sub standard! Wink
10897  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Clive Platt on: January 12, 2013, 22:39:35 pm

Clive regains today his early season "form" - fact
10898  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Chesterfield on: January 12, 2013, 22:36:57 pm
There's nothing to worry about. Aidy is trying to assemble a squad. That takes time and patience. There'll be a few half wits predicting the end of the world.

very true - I had no idea we had so many half wits on here though Shocked
10899  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Chesterfield on: January 12, 2013, 22:30:05 pm

Who was worse today Carlisle or Harding?  Stiff competition between the two.

I often wonder which game our supporters watch Roll Eyes

The problem today is that we were simply outclassed for most of the game. The main problem being was that our midfield was simply "useless".
Gutteridge who looked off the pace all game, slow and ineffective to boot. People on here forget that Gutteridge was directly responsible for at least one of their goals. As for Harding the least said the better! Widdowson was awful as well  and was given the run around all game. Its all well and good blaming Bayo and Carlisle; but Bayo received terrible service and Carlise was needlessly exposed by our midfield time and time again; but his passing and particularly his heading was sub standard. We know that both players are slow but by being exposed by the midfield made it worse.  Langmead was only slightly better but his marking of Richards was non existant. Tozer is not a right back and looks more effective in front of the back three. Hackett also had a poor game through out! Robinson - was more like Mrs Robinson all fluff and no bite.

So unless AB sorts out the midfield and right back we will at best remain mid table. Basically the fwds are adequate - especially if Bayo is on song!

For me the following had poor overall games : Platt,Bayo,Carlise,Robinson and Hackett. As for Gutteridge,Harding and Widdowson  Shocked

If its my right of way, I have no qualms about driving in to someone (other than damaging my car).

Surely not Cobbs supporters though
