Rushden have defended well
Well I made it to the game and it was a very hesitant and disjointed effort both halves. R&D won because they were the better team simple as that. At times their fwds outpaced us and only some last ditch tackling saved us. But for Goff who made 2 or 3 outstanding saves to keep us in it at 0-1 half time.
I thought that Lobjoit was out of it as was Bowditch and Kasim. On the plus side Regan Poole showed up well and Goff looked a real find. All the others , well they were on the pitch! There was a young tallish fair haired defensive player who along with Smith did ok. Second half 10 came on and 10 came off. Foley played well, Barnett played ok'ish, and Waters gave a patchy performance. Disappointed with Richards who was well marshalled by their defense. Revell in first half may have been more effective! Phillips did ok. Taylor was outnumbered in midfield and allowed no time on the ball. Powell flattered to deceive!.
The only consolation was that McWilliams, Taylor 2 , JJOT and Crooks didnt make the squad!
We did not have a decent shot on goal and neither of their goalies were hardly bothered. Both our midfields failed to make a decent impression. Some of our passing out of defense was pi$$ poor and midfield was hardly any better.
I would say on tonights evidence we lack quality in midfield and punch up front. So we need a winger, a goal scoring fwd and on tonights evidence a decent striker with pace; we simply have not got the right players at the moment. The two guys who played well at Sileby , Hugo and the ex Sunderland lad were head shoulders better than we had tonight. Some of the players JE has signed may find it difficult even to make the bench. On this showing we need all the four missing tonight plus additions to the defence and particularly the fwds. Perhaps we are lucky that this early game showed up our inadequacies; pretty well too.
