Come on, you are not being fair to Manny. He’s not here to provide nuance and critical thinking. He’s here to challenge us all with his stark black and white thinking.
You don’t need to agree with the guy to respect his passion and clarity of thought. It’s mostly complete bollox but it gets us to consider / justify our own beliefs / thoughts on Cobblers and non-football matters. I think a dose of Manny should be available to us all at all times on the NHS.
NB Evers, you will recognise these sentiments from Chapter 3(I think) of Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations.
Welcome to the MAM fan club! I get your drift too!

The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Players Under & Out of Contract

I would offer him a contract. We have definitely achieved success this season as a collective being better than the some of its parts. This is for all intents and purposes a good but not all conquering league 2 squad. For that reason I would be very wary of making wholesale changes and risk affecting what we’ve built. I would move out the players who haven’t or barely featured or in areas we are over stacked and hope to improve the quality that way. Obviously a lot depends on the players we can attract and now safe(ish) I hope we’ve already started that process.
I think you undervalue the side we currently have. Some players are actually improving and most have adjusted to League One. Above all we have a Manager who is able to motivate his players to perform to a higher standard. Players like Hondermarck, Sowerby, Hoskins, Willis, Leonard, Bowie, Pinnock, Simpson and probably the improving Moulden. That is a pretty formidable list and there maybe others too who can be added to the group detailed above. I would suggest that the team is at least as effective as 75% of the teams in League 1. The team we played on Saturday had recently beaten Orient and Bristol Rovers away something we failed to do.

It was, easy mistake to make though, they look very similar.
Think he has changed his hair colour ! McW patrols the pitch with a threatening gait - Leonard has more of a classy swagger. Typical Leonard like effort tho - a thunderous high rising volley. You only decided after the highlights?Typical !

Really enjoyed the game, although a bit disappointed that there wasn't a third goal at our end.
Good to get a clean sheet. Willis was a great signing, filling in excellently at right back. Nicely composed on the ball.
Our passing is sublime at times, I can't remember a time that a Cobblers team has been so slick with the passing. Leonard was really taking the mick at times with his back heels, so it wasn't a surprise to see the Burton player take Marc out. It was even less of a surprise to see him quickly exact his revenge.
I have seen some good results this season, but it is back to IFollow until Fleetwood. Armchair status resumes.
There is nothing better than being in a Cobblers crowd sensing a win in the offing! At the end of the game the away Terrace End seemed relunctant to leave the Stand. In fact the away support this season has been magnificent in applause and dedication to their team, forever willing them on! As for the game itself apart from opening 15 - 17 mins it was a Cobblers show off affair. However the Cobblers were a little fortunate to survive Burton's thundering start; in reality Burton should have done better especially via the Burton player with the massive long thro. All they lacked was a forward who had a reasonable idea where the goal was. Leonard's opportunistic goal clearly set us on our way but it took a hefty deflection on the way. The second was a great strike by Pinnock all of 20/25yds from goal. After that only some serious defensive midfield play from Burton prevented a third. Second half was a bit of a yawn with Burton gamely pressing but with little effect from well marshaled defense led by the admirable Guthrie who was in my view our MOM even though I voted for Leonard. Only criticism was the failure to add to the two scored although Leonard hit the cross bat with a thunderous shot which was worthy of admission alone. Last not least was the ovation from Terrace End faithful after the final whistle enthusiastically rendered when Moulden did the three fists salute. All good stuff - especially the second half incident with a Brewer fan in Green who was serenaded by the Terrace end "you look like a tramp.....what were you thinking off you look like a twat". Decent report from Staffordshire Times, please read with a man size handkerchief https://www.staffordshire-live.co.uk/sport/football/brewers-cant-find-away-form-9122531

Can't help this thread is a touch over blown! If a fan is unable to go too every game due to health, distance, even living abroad and financial responsibility. That's it; its a fans choice. Melly and Coolie make realistic points on Armchair Fans. However I find it hard work to take on board those who have very strong opinions on Manager, Players, Tactics and of course the Directors etc yet very rarely go to an away game let alone home games. Yet again that is their choice!

I thought Marvo might have mentioned the 3 seasons in the old Division 2 let alone the season in League 1 of Law, the Charltons, Styles, Hurst and Ball etc. What we earned from this is History and a tradition if we have done it before we can do it again. Wishful thinking perhaps but we as a Club inherited that tradition and our aim should be to emulate that tradition. As some on here have suggested a few choice signings we could be on our away again.

I agree with not being able to see the whole pitch on ifollow. The zoom and elevation varies depending on the venue and it can be frustrating at times. Oxford, however is one of the best away ends to get a good view of the game in person. Most away ends are not and include sitting behind the goal (which ruins all depth perception in my view) at low elevation and often with pillars and other obstacles in the way. I would take ifollow view over those scenarios any day. The atmosphere of course, is a different topic and cannot be replicated on ifollow.
Can you tell me if I am an armchair fan? I am struggling to keep up with the definition. I had a ticket to original game and was planning to go in person. I returned it and watched on ifollow because I was not able to get to Oxford in time for kickoff on a what is a work day for me. Does that make me an armchair fan?, am I allowed an opinion on the game without being labeled a 'filthy casual'?
You seem to somewhat sensitive to the accusation of being an 'Armchair Supporter' when you are clearly not. Having bought a ticket for the original game which was postponed and then allocated to a later evening date. Due to work you were unable to attend. Under those circumstances for me at least you made the correct work related decision.

A very interesting and chilly evening. We were completely out of the game for the majority of the time. But I never felt like they presented a huge threat. And I thought we could nick a result.
Ref was a dick Lino was fùcking useless They’re support is woeful
But a point it is.
Your comment ' completely out of the game......' etc. Followed by 'never presented a threat', seems to me a bit of a contradictory comparison. Apart for the opening spell when they scored and even in the second half I was reasonably confident our defense were playing well enough to get a result. So it proved by playing their understated football and patiently waiting for opportunities they got their reward. It was to all intents a purposes a deserved point and not a fortunate one at that. That somewhat cruel observation that Hoskins was a 'black hole' did not work out last night did it? Regarding your 3 point summary I too thought that the linesman was poor as was their luke warm support. The referee was just about par for the course for me, including the two spectators who sat either side.

Hoskins assist ? Surely not , I'm lead to believe he's not much of a benefit to the team Hoskins came on and that livened up the game and the attending 1200 odd too. Marc Leonard's pass for the first goal was excellent. He looked MOM for me. As for Hoskins assist so well reported in the Chron came about through sheer persistence by our leading scorer and his low pinpoint cross to Springett who with a shimmy to lose his marker calmly slotted the chance home. A well deserved point too. With Hoskins bearing down towards the goal I thought he would have a go himself; but no class and brain told. We are so fortunate to have a player of his calibre. Great team player too! Great substitutions by J Brady. Decent and loyal crowd as well who out-sung OU with commendable ease. Hondermark surprised me with his work rate and fine goal

For me bids for Tyreece and Bowie, AK, then the search for a Leonard replacement, and offload the likes of Hylton, Haynes, and bring in some L1 quality.
Not sure on Tyreece tho’. Had Some good moments and his physicality made him nuisance to all and sundry. Left a couple of calling cards on their defence. Had a chance to score too - as if!!

No they didn't. You know how I know that? It's on this forum. I know you don't like me but all the information is there, took me less than a minute to check. I'm not after any thanks, that's why it's there.
Personally I don't dislike you. However I do not appreciate the inferred negativity on Hoskins and by association the Manager. I do agree should have noted that we lost the home fixture against Peterborough 0-3 back in the early 60's.
