Back of the Net, I think it is time you disclosed your connection with the club and/or the Community Trust. Employee or whatever I think it fair to ask and know. Time and again you come on here and make statements supportive of the club and its owners or anything connected with them. Today is no different albeit on behalf of what should be an entirely independent Community Trust and here you are trying to take apart the very sensible and accurate comments of Barton.  Sone on here did not come down with the last shower.
62  General Category / General Chat / Re: Stay Safe (& Alert !) on: May 14, 2020, 12:19:38 pm
The sadness is that the persons who should benefit, namely the beneficiaries of the Community Trust, will miss out.

All this is due to the small-mindedness by the person(s) responsible for such stupidity.  He/they/it should be ashamed. Crass, indeed.  It may backfire  because one day and maybe one day soon the help of the Trust will be needed and if it responded with Foxtrot Oscar this would be entirely understandable although I think the Trust is bigger than its adversaries.

And strange to say I understand that person may have been at Sixfields yesterday when this nonsense broke.

Charity Commission guidance to charity trustees states amongst other things:

"avoid putting yourself in a position where your duty to your charity conflicts with personal interests to any other person or body"

One of the Community Trust's charity trustee is NTFC CEO and employee James Whiting. Work it out.

Time for some grown ups to in the room at Sixfields but you won't find such people in the current regime.

Fat chance, Roger, but I am sure the people who matter, the beneficiaries, are very grateful even if those who seek to enhance their standing with lots of attendant publicity cannot find it within them to say a simple word of thanks to the Trust.  It shows them up for what they are, a mean spirited lot of yes men.  I can hear it coming, "I vas only obeying orders". Kaput.

66  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Administration on: April 24, 2020, 18:29:51 pm
The latest accounts of the club report as at 30 June 2019 net current liabilities of £6.7 million. Out of that £4.3 million is owed to Belle de Jour Ltd (thought to be Bower’s offshore vehicle) and £1.29 million to the immediate holding company of NTFC, Northampton Town Ventures Ltd which is 80% owned by the BVI company with the balance 10% KT and 10% DB.  Putting the club in Administration would probably have to be done by our owners and what would they gain from that other than the immediate loss of the very significant sums owing to them with prospects of recovering what and from whom?  They may as well write off the inter-company debt and leave the club in a much better place but there is no suggestion of that happening either.

We can rule nothing out at this unprecedented time and unexpected events may happen in the football world but Administration seems unlikely. It is always open to any unpaid creditors to use the insolvency legislation to apply pressure but certainly I have no knowledge of any unpaid creditors. Typically, as we know when football clubs are in distress it is HMRC which issues winding-up petitions for unpaid PAYE, VAT & NIC.  To be fair to our owners, despite the accruing indebtedness to BdJ, they appear to have met the club’s obligations to external creditors in a timely manner and that is good.

Has KT had a Damascene conversion on the road to Sixfields? If not, he is hardly a role model for other EFL clubs to follow with the state of NTFC's balance sheet. However, taken in isolation I would agree with many of his reported comments.

Elsewhere, there is talk of regionalisation of the lower leagues along the lines of the old Division 3 North & South.  I struggle to see salary caps being introduced or, if they are, policed properly.  Belatedly, Man City were caught out for having paid Roberto Mancini a second salary from an offshore entity years after he had left the club and City had won the Premier League. Level playing fields are very difficult first to introduce and then supervise.  There are any number of deceptions unscrupulous owners can get up to and, sadly, I am sure many would.

But, it does look like there will be some fairly dramatic changes in the EFL if the COVID-19 crisis continues throughout the summer

Well done, the Trust.
70  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: April 05, 2020, 09:49:17 am
Beds was last seen on Facebook but that was I think a while ago. Much maligned (not by MC who tried to engage with Beds constructively) by many on here so he looks to have decided enough was enough.

Whilst Beds' economics may have been back of the envelope fantasies his general criticism of the lack of direction of the club under the past and present owners was well founded.

This was in the pre-COVID-19 era.  The landscape has since changed dramatically.  It is difficult to see anything happening on the land for some time ahead even if KT strikes a deal with NBC.  That in turn will have consequences.  Time for a radical re-think in terms of everything, including the ownership model/structure.
71  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: On this day on: April 03, 2020, 07:03:40 am
I was at Villa Park that day, Barton. What stays in the mind was the sheer size of the ground and the class acts that were Joe Kiernan and Graham Moore.
72  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Accounts are out on: April 01, 2020, 18:02:47 pm
The facts are, Deepcut, that the club after over 4 years of the present ownership finds itself in the same financial position as was the case under the previous owners.  An operating loss of £1.6 million (yes, it represent a reduction) and accrued debts owing to the the owners of about £7 million makes for bleak reading but if you are happy with that then that is a matter for you.  I wonder if some of you ever learn from the past and this is why it is always right to be questioning and vigilant.

On the development side of matters the same comment applies.  It is shrouded in mist and I doubt that when the time comes we will be much the wiser.

Owners need to be held to account.
73  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Accounts are out on: April 01, 2020, 15:51:30 pm
I see the usual KT camp followers are out in numbers.

Just consider if they would the reasons why we are so heavily in hock to our owners and the owners' direct responsibility for the club being back to where it was in the Cardozo era with £7 million debt owing to its owners so that the club exists at their whim.  Well run club, as KT claims, or a club bedevilled with crass and irresponsible decision making at the top?

I’m sure KT will be using the state of the club’s finances to apply maximum leverage on the Council for a favourable land deal.  The next question is favourable to whom?

TFAMH has a valid point in calling for a pause but I would only add out that KT and JW have been busy using the ever willing and unquestioning local media over the past couple of days to trot out their spin on the accounts. They need to be countered.
74  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Accounts are out on: April 01, 2020, 07:53:46 am
Good to hear it, MC.  It is the German model i much prefer although I can see it may have to be preceded for, hopefully, a short period  by a 100% community owned model depending on the circumstances at the time.
75  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Accounts are out on: April 01, 2020, 07:14:21 am
The latest accounts make for grim reading despite the efforts of the club to put a positive spin on the reduction in the operating loss.  I don’t think the latest financials are anything that we didn’t expect but this was the position as at 30 June 2019.  Since then we have COVID-19 and the impact of this is going to be extremely severe throughout the EFL.

I agree with MC that football clubs should publish full accounts. Someone mentioned Carlisle Utd.  AFC Wimbledon are also an example of transparency and are to be praised. It is difficult to analyse NTFC’s accounts in any great detail which allows KT to get away with his usual gloss supported by a low standard local media which simply repeats what he puts out without any questions.  KT has been allowed to present an operating loss of £1.6 million as a positive!  The economics of the madhouse at work.  The Chronicle  and BBC Northampton are woeful.

As a club we have for some time been back where we were in the Cardozo era heavily indebted to owners and unsustainable without their support.  Again, I agree with MC on this but where we disagree is concerning the ownership model.  As for Rick Parry who thinks the Premier League should not be called on for any financial support to the EFL clubs from its £1.5 billion of cash reserves he ought to be shown the door and quickly.

76  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: March 19, 2020, 16:49:52 pm
Try reading the exchanges but to make it easy for you, the Trust.

Another one for a cosy coffee with our leader.
77  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: March 19, 2020, 16:28:00 pm
Sorry VC I completely disagree and dispute I’ve been proved wrong? I think this might be moving towards impasse, what do you say?

I say MC see again my post MC at 14:24:22.  That very adequately answers your assertions that the Trust Board is acting undemocratically.  I reacted because what you claimed was groundless.

But, look, we enjoy a good banter and we won't fall out about it. i enjoy our exchanges which, whatever our differing points of view, are a case of each of us saying it as we see it. This is a board for opinions after all.  At the end of the day we have this in common - our commitment to the Cobblers.

UTC.

Yes indeed, Cordwainer2.

On which subject, just how often do our owners consult with its minority shareholders (who include the Trust1) on anything?
79  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: March 19, 2020, 15:58:53 pm
Come on MC, more correctly put you didn't take the opportunity and don't place the blame on anyone other than yourself.  You have as much access to the Trust's media platforms as anyone else.  But this is a distraction - you said the Trust was handling the community ownership aspect in an undemocratic manner and you have been proven to be wrong.  Accept it with good grace.
80  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: March 19, 2020, 15:32:53 pm
Take it up with the Trust, MC, not me.  The Trust has its own website, twitter feed and facebook presence as you know full well.

But the fundamental point is that you had the opportunity to express your view and did not. Your argument has been shot down in flames.  The community aspect was and is being democratically handled. End of.
