The club are saying that Guthrie is fit but they didn't want to risk him as it was a long coach journey and they felt he would be better resting at home. Dear oh dear. Was Brough injured in the warm up, they are just saying he is injured, if that is the case why was he named in the team anyway?

The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Charlton Athletic (a) - officially off

Sky have run a feature about international callups affecting League 1 games in a way they never have before, 10 of this weekends 12 games are off.
In Charltons case Goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer (12 appearances this season) is away with Australia, Karoy Anderson (10) and Michael Hector (16) are away with Jamaica, James Abankwah (3) off with Rep of Ireland U21's and Terell Thomas (17) with St Lucia.
So five players away on international duty, however Charlton managed to play a Cup replay last night and despite none of these players being in the squad anyway they still managed to put out 11 players plus a full bench of nine subs.
It does sort of beg the question as to why are league games called off in these circumstances.
I watched that game and wondered the same thing. If they can play on a Wednesday night without their international players then why can't they play this Saturday. They won 6-1 as well so were hardly weakened that much, albeit they were only playing Cray Valley Paper Mills who had nothing left in the second half after chasing everything in the first Having said that I am quite happy for the Cobblers to have a week off in the hope that Guthrie will be fit for Cambridge. Hopefully Bowie will come back fit and healthy.

What's interesting to me is that Sammy and Tommy Fowler are the only two who appear in both lists. I accept that some of the players were defenders and one was a goalie before anybody points it out.

I might be wrong but you appear to be the first one on here to suggest that Bowie is available this Saturday. If not apologies if this is not the case.
He's served his suspension so we all know he's available.

Yes, it doesn't really tell us much. I wasn't expecting TM back before February anyway but was hoping to see Hylton this month so we can at last get some value out of him. However the phrase 'hopefully we will see him out there again soon' doesn't really tell us anything. I will have a guess at January. Thanks for asking James.

Hylton was supposed to back in Nov was he not? He wasn't even mentioned again, he's clearly nowhere near ready to come back and save us. It's about time either Radio Northampton or the Chronic quizzed JB about the situation with DH. If you are there Tim or James how about it.

To be fair, isn't the giraffe aka Yengi now playing for Pompey?
It's his brother Kusini Yengi who they signed from Western Sydney Wanderers in the summer. I said at the time we signed Tete we had signed the wrong brother, although I doubt we could have signed Kusini who looked good for WSW.

Do we have anyone at the club who you could call "commanding" in the air, certainly none of the forwards ever look like they can head the ball at all.
You are right with the forwards, they are all hopeless in the air and the midfielders are no better. I guess Guthrie would be our best header of the ball but he can't be everywhere. I must admit, many moons ago when I was playing football my head would never go anywhere near the ball, I hated heading. Luckily for me I used to play on the wing as I was fast, the problem was no one told me I had to take the ball with me !!!

In the Chrons player ratings I found it puzzling that it said Hondermarck was at fault for failing to challenge their striker with his free header for the first goal. I would have thought that when you have corners and free kicks coming into your box the big striker would have been marked by a central defender.
I agree but it was Hondermarck who jumped up with him, well tried to jump up with him, so I guess that's why JH blamed him. I would imagine it would have been Guthrie's job had he been fit. He was a big bloke though.

Did they get booed?
There were loud boos at the end of the game and it's difficult to argue with it really although I didn't join in. That performance was shocking and the fact that Brady started the game without a recognised striker says all you need to know about Simpson I'm afraid. We started poorly, gave away a soft goal from a corner, scored a fortunate equaliser, conceded a fortunate second goal and then an absolute howler from Thompson and Koiki gifts them a third goal. Hoskins missed a good chance after the break to put us 2 - 1 which would probably have given us the game and he also missed a header later on. After the third goal went in we just seemed to give up - why JB took Odimayo off who was having a good game and brought on another defender when we were losing only he knows. Frankly though we just don't have the players on the bench to change games - if only Bowie hadn't stupidly got himself sent off against Orient maybe things may have been better but I doubt it. I have to say I am struggling at the moment to see where our next point is coming from, maybe Hylton will save us, after all he's supposed to be back this month isn't he?

I'll be there. Tin hat on but... interesting that here as well as other clubs STHs bang on about how they show their undying loyalty, life blood of the club etc etc, yet conspicuous by their absence at earlier round cup games where they are asked to shell out for a ticket! Bolton Wanderers for example, have 16000 STHs, yet only 6000 odd attendance for their League Cup game against Middlesbrough...who themselves took over 2000 fans! Special mention to Boro, as I sat in the Exeter Arms in Derby last night. 1400 Boro made the long, long trek from Teeside to Devon last night. On Saturday, they travel again...to Plymouth! For Barrow, would like to see Hylton partnering Simpson up front. Think they would compliment each other well! I am a season ticket holder and I will be there also, along with my son in law who is a Cardiff fan.

I don't see the point in replacing JB as we are just going to get another failed manager. I think we should appoint an experienced No 2 who can help and advise - is Wilder still available? , yes I know I'm dreaming.
We all know we need to get the injured players back and more info on these injuries would be nice - such as progress reports on Hylton and Magloire as we never hear anything about them - also the club should tell us what the situation is with Fox. We need more transparency - or at least I do.
It goes without saying that we need some investment in the team in January but if it didn't come in the summer I can't see much happening then either. I'm not sure KT even cares what division we are in.

James Heneghan's player ratings says it all, he clearly wasn't impressed. The highest mark was 4 with several getting 3 or 3.5. The 'star man' was Hoskins on 4 - I would have given him 5 myself as at least he ran around and looked like he was trying. The rest frankly were a waste of space, with the possible exception of Burge as he was not responsible for the goals.
I have to say that I have never seen the Chron's player ratings so low before.
