I always want the Cobblers to win and if they can't do that to at least draw. If your mindset is that you want them to lose I don't see the point in paying good money to watch them play.

There has some decent comments on the game particularly from OAP and restrained short summary from Marvo which was welcome and informative to read. It’s a pity Marvo decided to engage in critical response when perhaps it might have been better to praise it; so doing giving more credence to his critics excellent summary. As for the game it was noticeable that (imo) Guthrie has lost a bit of pace. Clearly not fully fit. I liked Monthe has amazing recovery powers. He needed them at times! Burge untroubled for most of the game. Did not notice Brough too much so must have done ok! Sowerby played well until he ran out of steam and Pollock had some good monents particularly when he hit the bar; should have scored tho’. It was apparent that we lacked quality in at least three positions. A centre mid, a winger who can score and make a few chances and maybe a replacement centre half. There was enough on offer to suggest we can improve. Hoskins and Appéré were successful in totally anonymous performances. Also although Bowie has had a poor pre-season it takes a brave manager to all but ignore him until desperation set in! Not sure why Koiki was missing and McWilliams too, both badly missed. Losing against Stevenage is not a good way to start the season but missed chances played a big part in our defeat. On the face of it Stevenage were no better than MK Dons who did well today. Incidentally having pots of money throw at Players did not prove a winning formula as proved by defeats for Stockport, Wrexham and Notts County.
'Pollock had some good moments particularly when he hit the bar' - Pollock hasn't been with the club for a couple of seasons, it was Brough who hit the bar. Also Koiki was on the bench but for some reason JB didn't bring him on and McWilliams was injured (yet again) so didn't feature in the squad. As a matter of interest did anyone else buy a programme? The price has gone up from £3.00 to £3.50 which I don't have an issue with as the price has been the same for a few years now. However the size has been considerably reduced so it's a double price increase. The number of pages at 62 is the same. I always buy a programme when I can get one, but not sure I will be buying too many this season.

That we need some more players, we have signed some good players but with the likes of Dyche coming on we will take some hammerings. Minimum of two players L1 quality.
I agree we need at least two more players, whether we will get them though is another matter. We cannot afford to run with the level of injuries we had last season in this league.

I agree with everything that's been said. We could have been 3 up by half time, hit the bar, the post and maybe should have had a penalty. Odimayo went off because he was feeling his hamstring so if he is out that will bring our injured players up to 7 - and it's only the first game. I am assuming McWilliams is injured again as I have no idea why he wasn't in the squad.
Second half from about the 60th minute we were totally knackered and it seemed only a matter of time before they scored. Losing to Stevenage is never good.
Like most I don't expect too much this season and it's only the first game but we need to up our fitness levels pretty quick before we start playing the better teams.
We could have done with Fox today and I was a little surprised we didn't bring Koiki on for AK. As for Sammy he seemed like a little boy lost today - but I'll forgive him one bad game.

Unless he’s a sadist there are only two of those 4 clubs you’d go to. Let’s hope he prefers familiarity.
He'd be more likely to get a regular game with us than Charlton, plus he won't have to settle in as he knows most of the lads already. Come on Mark sign for us, you know it makes sense !!

Of course it is possible...but I'm not some boring old fart who turns up at 2.55pm and leaves for home at 5pm so they can post their oh so interesting match details on a forum. Beer and football like a cigar and whiskey, or a meal in a restaurant with wine. Try it sometime!
Personally I prefer a beer in a pub with a meal. I don't drink up the Cobblers though as I have to drive. Mind you, at my age, I would probably miss a chunk of the second half if I did.

Lindley has been released by Aston Villa and Leshebela is still on Leicester's books( I think). So a season long loan for one and a contract for the other perhaps?
According to the Leicester Mercury Leshebela has been released along with Josh Eppiah and 9 others.

I open the thread, look to see if ntfclad has posted, close the thread again. Pointless reading anything else on the thread as it's absolute rubbish.
Pretty much the same as me. The lack of signings is a bit of a worry and the fact that Josh Harrop was one of last nights trialists I find bizarre after last seasons experience. If that is what we have come down to then heaven help us, unless of course he is one of those just making up the numbers.

Not going on Saturday but I suspect a poor outcome ( if Leicester bring a full strength team)might focus some minds on what needs to be in place for the start of the season. Happy to continue being patient providing we end up with a couple of statement signings. We have winnable games at the start of this season, we really need to be on the front foot from the outset.
How well we do at the start of the season will depend to some extent on how many of the injured players from last season are able to start the campaign. JB said we need 7 - 8 new players and so far we have signed 2, so we have between 5 - 6 more to sign, and there will only be 3 weeks to go on Saturday. Hopefully all is in hand, but the lack of info from the club is a worry.

There is another option of course as wicket keeper and that is Ben Duckett. He was the keeper during his time at the county before he migrated to Notts. He also kept wicket and captained the England U-19 team. He doesn't keep wicket for Notts though, either in the red or white ball games so might be a bit out of practice. I suppose he may also be considered too small if they are going to keep bowling all those bouncers as they might just whiz over his head.

No. Don't normally watch it but 4 games of golf each week doesn't seem to be keeping me busy anymore.
PS: I couldn't even tell you who the best specialist wicket keeper in the country is. Not a clue.
That would be Ben Foakes of Surrey who has played for England before. He is a good batsman too, but it's difficult to put him in the team without dropping a batsman. It doesn't have to be Bairstow as he can field but no one really deserves to be left out so I guess they will stick with JB even though he's been poor with the gloves and bat so far. Anyway great result today, well done Brook, Woakes and Wood.
