Patience is a virtue! JB has said patience is the way forward
I'm quite happy to wait, most of the signings the last few seasons have been worth waiting for and I am sure they will be this season. Patrick Brough being a fine example. My argument is, that if there is nothing to say rumour/transfer wise, then say nothing. I would rather the thread be 8-10 pages long and on topic than 33 pages long and on non related items, such as budgets, the East Stand (I have given up on that) and other random posts. Having said that every thread goes off topic so I don't expect anything to change.

Any chance we can more or less stick to the thread as it’s quite interesting when it mentions transfer rumours!
I agree, it's another thread gone way off topic. I have no idea what most of these comments are about. Why not start a new thread called 'random comments about people from the past, and other things' or something. I keep looking on here everytime a new post goes up hoping for transfer news and then find it's just something that has nothing to do with rumours or transfers, and doesn't interest me, or most people I would guess, at all.

Millstone long contracts around our necks;
Northampton Town - Danny Hylton. Northamptonshire Steelbacks - David Willey. Northampton Saints - No idea!
I have to say David Willey has been a big disappointment. He's done nothing with the bat and very little with the ball. Having said that, no one has done much with the bat in the T20 bar a ton from Chris Lynn. Our four day batters have been even worse.

When will Neville and Co realise Salford are not worth the money they spend on them. Crap stadium and no fans, they have some decent players though. Glad they got knocked out, that penalty from Lund was a cracker

It would be great if someone would come in for Sammy the scamp, and offer us say £500k for the little imps services, we could then buy a proper L1 striker and Kelvin could buy something shiny with the majority of the surplus.
I'd rather keep Sammy, although £1 million might change things. Someone on Facebook said he was going to Wrexham but where he got that from I do not know.

He was quality, mate. Worked his arse off every game, picked up a few goals (some of them very high quality) and was very much a part of the team even though he was only on loan.
He even came back early from an U21 call up to play for us instead of Scotland, which is some commitment from a loanee.
I think if be right in saying that every single one of us would love to see him back on loan with us next year.
Agreed, I would love to see him back next season, his commitment to the cause was superb. I'm really pleased his efforts were rewarded with a promotion on his CV. If we don't get him back, then good luck to him next season, except if he plays against us of course.

The Hotel End / Other Football & Sport / Re: Is it finally Brackley's year?

Well I watched the game, after watching the Oxford City v St Albans match which was won by Oxford 4 - 0. Brackley were, frankly abysmal, and could have lost by a lot more. They were actually on top until the first goal and then a defensive howler gives Ashley Hemmings a clear run at goal and he scores. After that Brackley huffed and puffed but never looked like scoring. They had Theo Robinson up front who looked way out of his depth, time to retire I think. They also had Adam Rooney on the bench but even at 2 - 0 down the manager still didn't bring him on. Hemmings also scored the second goal but I thought the goalie should have done better.
In all honesty if Brackley had gone up they would have needed a whole new team on the evidence of that game. As for Kidderminster, they should do well next year and so should Oxford.
Also did Brackley have any fans there, all I heard were Kidderminster fans cheering. I didn't hear any noise from the Brackley fans from start to finish, they really need to get behind their team.
One final comment, what a dreadful commentator Aaron McLean is, he just shouts, it's so annoying. Kevin Davies for the Oxford game showed how it should be done. Still at least we were spared Virgo.

Regardless of whether it came of Smiths shoulder or was an own goal, I thought it was a dreadful game, in a dreadful stadium. I really hope Stockport can get some of their injured players back and pull themselves together for the 2nd leg as I really don't want Salford in L1.
On the night though Salford were much the better side.

Scouting the Championship, Keanu Bacchus for St. Mirren has similarish numbers to Leonard, and is also Australian for bonus points, but has another year on his contract so would cost money. There's another Australian in Ryan Strain who plays as a right back.
Leighton Clarkson on loan from Liverpool playing for Aberdeen can tackle and is good on the ball in the same was as Leonard.
After spending about 30 minutes looking for anyone on the wing who had good stats, was out of contract and would reasonably be within our wage structure I gave up, which is guess why data analysts get paid to do this stuff. Hope we've got some long-term targets lined up already.
I've been watching the Australian A league matches on BT for many years now and there are a lot of Aussie players coming over to play in Scotland these days. I remember Keanu Bacchus when he played for Western Sydney Wanderers and he was a decent player for them. His brother Kieron still plays for them, or maybe some other team. Ryan Strain was born in Coventry and played for Adelaide and was a decent full back - I must admit though I had forgotten about him. If anyone from the club reads this forum it's well worth spending some time on Friday/Saturday and Sunday mornings watching these games as there are some really good players playing there, including plenty of Brits. I would love Jamie McLaren up front but I doubt we could ever afford him and he plays for Melbourne City who are owned by the City Group. Adelaide have just sold a 17 year old lad Nestory Irankunda to Bayern Munich and boy can he hit a ball.

A couple of Northampton v Tranmere games from way back that some of the older Cobblers fans may remember...
1986/87 Northamptons promotion season from Div 4 when you had Richard Hill banging them in...Div 4 Tranmere v Northampton at Prenton, 1-1 scoreline, if i remember correctly and i am not 100% sure on this and i could be getting mixed up with another game, Hill put Cobblers 1 up in the very first minute ( i hadn't even got inside the ground when he scored ) i deffo remember Hill got the goal..maybe any older Cobblers fans might have a better memory than me on whether it was the 1st minute or not, my memory not so clear now..
Going back even further now - 1970 FA Cup 4th Round...Tranmere 0-0 Northampton at Prenton. The prize for the winners in the replay was a glam home tie vs Man Utd..Cobblers beat us 2-1 in the replay..it would have been nice to have seen Best, Law and Charlton gracing Prenton Park but it wasn't to be..we would have beaten them 8-2 if we had played them ..lol
I've just had a look on line and the game at Tranmere was on the 6th Feb and you are quite correct, Hill did score for us and your goal was scored by Muir and the game finished 1 - 1. Unfortunately it does not give the times of the goals. For the record the crowd was 2583, and that's about all it says.

The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Promotions from Division 4 (Nine of them)

I have seen all of them and although Bowen's team of the 60's was the greatest achievement as no one else has ever taken us anywhere near to the top division, I think Brady's promotion has been the best simply for the terrific fight against all the odds with the constant injuries. It didn't matter who came in every single player who donned a Cobblers shirt did a job for us and deserves the highest praise. I have never seen two loan players, Leonard and Bowie give so much to the cause and you can see just how much they wanted it. I am convinced Leonard will captain Scotland one day and Bowie will be alongside him. John Brady is probably the least experienced of the managers, with the possible exception of Graham Carr but his passion along with the rest of his team is the best I have seen. Well done to everyone and that includes the fans.
My top four would be Brady, Bowen and in equal third Carr and Wilder.
At the end of the day though every promotion is special.

From what was evident on tv, there was some light booing, and it was mostly drowned out by Cobblers fans singing Cobblers songs, whether that was intentional or not.
I could definitely hear booing on the TV but as you say it wasn't very loud. I had assumed however that Sky had turned the crowd mikes down, but could be wrong. The Liverpool fans booed the National anthem as well so it must be a Merseyside thing. I must admit I am not a fan of National anthems being played at football matches but I wouldn't boo, I just wouldn't sing. Those around me might be quite glad of that though.

I know for definite they want Bowie and Leonard back
Radio Northampton were interviewing Kieron Bowie after the game about whether he would like to be back here next season and he wouldn't answer the question, kept saying no comment. I inferred from that he had been asked not to say anything as talks may be going on.
