Life on other planets undoubtedly exists like you say it’s a numbers thing, intelligent life and other civilisations that’s where the debate is. The Drake equation shows us the Milky Way should be teeming with life but there is just no evidence ‘the great silence’ (Fermi paradox). So it seems unlikely aliens have visited earth, I like to think they are all as dumb as we are and either blew up their own planet or ignorantly treated it so badly that it destroyed itself.
When you consider just the number of known galaxies each with countless suns and countless planets the idea that we are alone seems preposterous. However this is a leap of faith just the same as believing in a supreme being is. Brain Cox actually hit the nail on the head. He said and I paraphrase that no scientist could hand on heart claim that there was no supreme being just as much as a believer cannot claim that there is one. He went on to say that the only answer a scientist can give when asked is there a god is "We don't know". As to whether we have been visited, I believe we have, there are things on the planet that do not have a clear explanation and one of the possibilities is extraterrestrial interference. The issue is how do they get here? Are they so long lived that a thousand years is the blink of an eye so travelling huge distances is nothing to them, or have they found a way to bend space and time? We wont know until they make themselves known to us.

People have their own beliefs, some people believe that dinosaurs are a hoax, the moon landings never happened and the earth is flat. Their choice no matter how ridiculous others might find them
And the pinnacle of humanity is to accept that there are varying beliefs and that everyone is entitled to their belief with out fear of retribution. Unfortunately certain beliefs don't allow for this and that is the problem with the world today.

They were very sure what it was - it was a hairy little Frenchman!

Does that statement also apply to Catholics and Protestants
Well having lived in a Muslim country twice (& not the closeted world of Dubai or Qatar) and spend a good part of 30 years working life also in Muslim countries and can politely say that’s not my experience - of course every religion, every country will have extremists and bigots that like to promote division and hate- my experience is they are in the minority.
I have nothing but good experiences and memories of working in four Muslim countries and always found the people genuinely accepting of others.

Well that's it then. As soon as the government get involved it is the death knell of football. They'll be coming up with rules like your team must contain at least two women, one trans person and three Idon'tf***ingknows.

I suspect that if you are fleeing from war and your home has been bombed, it is difficult to get hold of the correct paperwork. If those persecuting you arrive on your doorstep with machetes or AK47s, you don't politely ask them to wait for a moment whilst you get your shît together, you flee as fast as you can and are on the back foot forever more. No nipping off to the nearest British embassy to get a visa - I don't think there are ones in Kabul or Damascus any more. Afghan special forces id doesn't seem to count for much either in this country, so I suppose it is probably best to ditch that rather than let it incriminate you.
I could continue but it would take far too long.
The problem I have is that if you are fleeing a war surely you would bring you're wife and kids. Also if you are a genuine refugee you would present you passport and request asylum. The fact that these people coming in on the boats fail to present travel documents on arrival instantly makes them illegal immigrants. I don't think that anyone has a problem with genuine immigrants(myself and a few others on here are immigrants who have been welcomed to our host countries) or genuine asylum seekers fleeing from war torn countries(I had asylum seekers from Bosnia working with me in Malaysia who had seen things that no person should ever see). These men(because it is only men) coming on the boats are an invading army and if you can't see that then to be honest you are part of the problem, bleeding heart liberals who just cannot see the facts in front of them.

I think the problem is that VAR has not been the panacea for reffing errors that everyone thought it was going to be. The is and always will be a certain amount of subjectivity to some decisions.

Following on from my viewing of "One Life", I decided to watch Schindler's list again, been over 20 years since I last saw it.
It's a tough watch and I'd forgotten most of it. I recalled the little girl in the red coat and the commandant shooting people whenever the fancy took him but apart from that it was like a first time view. When you think its based on a true story, its quite disturbing and you do wonder however anything like this could be allowed to happen. Why did ordinary people reject this action and why were they so complicit? I understand the "I was just following orders" but I don't see how I could ever have walked into a room and gunned down other human beings, especially children, that were offering no threat.
This brings up back to the likes of 20p Lee, Farage and Suella and the damage they are doing. Letting people and children drown in the channel, sending them back to war torn countries, keeping them locked up, not allowing them to work and contribute or flying them off to African countries none of us would want to even visit. It may not be putting them into gas chambers but it's a slippery road we find ourselves on and it's time we remembered our humanity because one day it could be our turn.
I'm not sure of the origin of this, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" and the German people did nothing even though they knew exactly what was going on. There was one village/town(the name escapes me) where the locals stood their ground and refused to hand over the Jews in that area and the authorities backed down and did nothing, obviously realising that to turn on their own people could start the downfall of the Reich.

Any news on capacity after East Stand Redevelopent? 7.5K is pretty embarrassing and wholly inadequate for the Cobblers. Gates like those at Lincoln, Oxford and Exeter are achievable, if only we had extra seats!!!
Beds finally returns.

Well they ended Apartheid, which was originally their big raison D'être. That is a pretty important achievement. Their leader changed from having a status of terrorist to the status of freedom fighter and was widely respected the world over and he did it with dignity. He did it with reconciliation rather than revenge, so really an example to us all.
Without being in full possession of the facts regarding modern day SA, I suspect that there is now some room for improvement in how they do some things.
When you consider that Mandela had every reason to be a bitter and vengeful man he conducted himself with aplomb and was a true statesman. Unfortunately that has not been continued by his successors.
