21  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window on: August 10, 2021, 08:22:51 am
I see today "football insider" reporting that Aston Villa "have hijacked Tottenhams £1m offer for Chukwuemeka" and are now favourites to sign him. Obviously they were waiting for the money from the Grealish transfer.

Their owners have a net worth north of $10B so I think they might just have been able to find the £1M for Chuk regardless.
22  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Lost score on: July 29, 2021, 08:46:23 am
Am looking for a score and date from a pre season friendly.
July/Aug 03.
Lewes v Northampton Town.
Anyone Help?
Thanks Stu.

We played Lewes 17th July 2004 according to Pete Norton via Getty Images (https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-photo/pedj-bojic-of-northampton-town-in-action-during-a-pre-news-photo/51126006) - can't see any trace of the result online unfortunately.

Fûcking hell the spin machine is at full speed.

Time for the trust to push out what information they have.

A load of dream journals about us becoming the next St Pauli?
24  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: June 26, 2021, 10:09:39 am
Staff like their boss who pays them on time and is rarely there.... what a surprise !!!!!!!

Yes, nobody should enjoy working for the club. Very sensible point.
25  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Rattling the Rovers 10.4.21 on: April 10, 2021, 14:41:50 pm
Hoskins tamely taps the ball into the defender's leg on the edge of the box.

Oglethorpe: "Falls to Hoskins OH AND A CHANCE TO SHOOT ANDITGOESINTOTHELEGSOFTHEDEFENDERANDAWAY!!! OH WHAT A CHANCE!"

“Cobblers playing well without getting their rewards” is also an interesting take on the first 35 minutes.  Huh?
26  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: New Manager on: February 16, 2021, 13:36:33 pm
And that’s my point......
One year of great football, hope and enjoyment. Then ....
Wilder had no loyalty to NTFC and is desperate to manage his home team club and keep his wife and family happy.
He pisses off and leaves us in a higher division with a confused squad. Then we get Page, Austin, Edinburgh, Jimmy and KC. How did that work out for you my friend?

It's going to be a relatively brief job for anybody at our level. Failure = sacking, genuine success = moving on to another club.

Being local makes absolutely no difference.

Couple of sources claim that Lloyd Jones is set to re-sign for us.  Must have turned down Inter Milan in the end.

How has this not been deemed a clash of kits? Going to get a headache watching this... Shocked

It isn’t a clash of kits. That’s the problem...

Hate to pick on individuals but if Smith was 4” shorter there’s absolutely no way he’d be a professional footballer.
30  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer 2020 Transfer Window on: October 02, 2020, 12:56:34 pm
I am very happy with this, a good age, plenty of experience and a regular goal scorer. One of the names you would seem to hear a lot when watching football highlights on a Saturday night

That phenomenon possibly helped by the fact there are currently at least 3 professional footballers with the same name!

Branthwaite, season long loan, Everton.

No chance - he's fringe first-team for Everton.

KC confirms German, Curruthers & Johnson trials have ended...

https://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/sport/football/curle-confirms-trialists-have-left-cobblers-hes-still-looking-two-others-2956750

Still looking at the lad from Wolves who got injured early & went off...

As for Ricky Korboa...

Ricky Korboa remains on trial with the Cobblers after playing 73 minutes against Luton Town on Saturday, and Curle confirmed afterwards he's keen to see more of the tricky forward.

"I like Ricky," he said. "I think he's got something.

"The situation with Ricky is that there's potentially a compensation clause with Carshalton and we have to find out the details of that before we progress anything."

You'd think after getting promoted, reducing the wage bill yet again by releasing/selling 15 players, we'd be able to stump up the probable minimal compensation?

About value rather than affordability surely?
33  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Predictions on: August 27, 2020, 15:38:34 pm
Comfortably 15th ish.  Easy to forget we were only relegated by 5 points in 2017/18 and were absolutely shocking for most of the season.

Lack of continuity on the playing side a concern but we do have a clear game-plan and identity under Curle and have been recruiting players to execute that game plan for some time (enormous contrast to our situation in 17/18).   Won't be enough to get us anywhere near promotion but I don't think we'll flirt with relegation in any serious way.

Would personally be thrilled with a low-key season on a reasonably sound financial footing and then approaching 2021/22 with a bit more ambition once football is hopefully in a slightly less precarious financial state.
34  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Open forum with Keith Curle Aug 1st on: July 07, 2019, 21:08:10 pm
Sounds like something the club would say...

All about the he said she said bulls***!

Transparency from either side is all the supporters ask for...

Particularly the Trust which has absolutely no place being obtuse or secretive.

That flyer shows a terrifying but entirely predictable detachment from reality.

37  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: January 23, 2018, 21:46:55 pm
They've actually sent a probe to mars and it took 3 years to get there..

Presumably you could have got the probe to Mars for a couple of hundred quid based on your normal costings?

Thanks! As part of the Ifollow package it was originally said that these 90 minute full-game replays would be available the day after the game, do you know if this is the case at all?

I signed up for a couple of months earlier in the season but at the time there was no sign of the replays...
39  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: January 2018 Transfer Rumours Thread on: January 05, 2018, 14:10:23 pm
This may be a simplistic view but...
One up front at home...
No wonder so many nils
No wonder so little entertainment

You can blind me with scientific formations and various nonsense but teams who have a pair of strikers up front score more goals than those with one up front.

As a club our problem is that we are trying to reinvent the wheel
4x4x2 is what’s needed.
A competent experienced goalie
Two tall aerial winning centre half’s.
Two tough tackling full backs who don’t bomb forward all the while.
A ball winning centre mid who patrols the centre circle
A centre mid who has legs can go box to box and play a through ball
Two wingers who can beat a man and put a cross in,only tracking back if necessary
A target man striker who can chip in 10/12 goals mainly threatening from set pieces.
A 15/20 goal main striker who has a touch of class

It’s frankly ludicrous that we have a 30 man squad and can’t even fulfill the simple blueprint above
We are still trying to buy in the quality to fulfill this.

This is down to crass mismanagement from previous managers all overseen by kelvin thomas(a self professed football man)
If that’s so why have we assembled a massive squad of players but have no quality in attacking areas?
KT
Get a bloody grip and if you are actually in the country is it too much to ask that we can put a decent 4x4x2 side on the pitch tomorrow??

Poncing around with one up front at home when we are in a relegation scrap my arse!!
Get a decent 4x4x2 team on the park that tries and the fans may get behind them.
At the moment fans turn up not only not knowing whose playing but what formation we’ll play or who will play where in it !!

We aren’t good enough to **** about with fancy formations but I do believe we can cobble a decent enough four four two with a couple more attacking signings
Get the round pegs in round holes, the fans will get behind the team and the results will come.

Rant over.

Has this been stuck in your drafts since the mid-80’s?
40  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer 2017 Transfer Wishlist on: July 18, 2017, 12:44:12 pm
Taylor wanted 2 year contract, we couldn't offer that due to age and risk, so it was agreed if he proved his fitness by starting 40+ games he would get the second year. To avoid us benching him on 39 appearances (it's happened before) he had the clause inserted. I would guess it's not in the 2nd year as no third year is pending. No idea what the implications were if we don't didnt start him, not sure where either party would stand legally. Maybe it was a two year contract, with the second year cancelled if he did don't prove his fitness but if he did and we dropped him he would still get the 2nd year triggered but could walk away with a pay off. But that is just a guess as I can't see how else it could have been worded.

So who decides on his eligibility to play? I.e. if he says 'i'm fit' but the club disagrees? Does this fantasy contract also include a team of independent medical adjudicators on retainer for this very purpose?

Assume this was also covered in the fictional contract you're citing?
