The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Losing the dressing room?

I'm inclined to agree. I do find it amusing that some people act like they know what the best thing to do is as if they know what is going on but in reality they're in the dark as much as us.

The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Losing the dressing room?

I've heard it said on here and on Facebook that Wilder has apparently lost the dressing room. Does anyone actually have any evidence that he has lost it or are people just throwing out predictions and presuming they're right?

First goal was a good goal which was struck well. The fact it was from outside the box and Duke got a touch to it should require little explaining of how good it was. Second one should have been defended better and while the 3rd one was finished well, I can't help but think he shouldn't have been allowed to.
Like it or not, we have scored 5 goals in the past three games (decent record for me personally) but we have also conceded 8. It doesn't take much to realise where the finger should be pointed and what needs to be improved urgently.

As I have stated before the poor run started the moment work ceased on the East Stand, up until that point we were playing well, or at least winning games. Sitting in the West Stand yesterday watching that match , in that weather, with that monstrosity staring you right in the face does not make a happy experience. I would assume the players know more about what's going on than we do and for my money it has/ is having a negative affect on their game.
If the stand had been completed in time for the Boston game like it should have and there were people over there cheering the team on I am convinced we would be much higher up the league than what we are. We are now in a relegation scrap that, with this squad, should never have happened.
For heavens sake DC get it sorted before it's too late.
You are right. While the season wasn't perfect by any means before it stopped, we were always in and around the playoffs with a squad that was playing well together and getting results. Then not long afterwards, construction stops, injuries pile up and the team suddenly lacks the cohesion that it once had. While I would say I am supportive of the chairman, I am becoming increasingly disillusioned with the elephant in the room that was staring at me last time I was at Sixfields (2-0 win over Wimbledon in November)

Lets just say we sack Wilder and get a new guy in January to get a few of his players in. He keeps us up, says that the aim for next season is promotion. He signs some players that look decent on paper and have a proven track record, we have a good pre-season against the likes of Cogenhoe, Sileby Rangers etc and we look fresh and ready for a good season. Things don't go to plan, club are sitting in a lower mid table position, fans get restless and claims come in from the terraces that he has lost the plot or the dressing room (or both), the players aren't good enough or demotivated and eventually results get so bad that the manager gets sacked. Sound familiar?
We might as well try the alternative option and give him time. Who knows, we might end up with the League 2 equivalent of Sam Allardyce or Alan Pardew. The very definition of madness is trying the same tactic all over again and expecting a different result which is what a lot of fans are advocating on here. Every manager who has left this club from Stewart Gray onwards has left this club in either the same position, or a worse one. Cardoza needs to give the manager time in January but must heavily emphasise that he cannot piss his money up the wall on second rate players.

I stand corrected Marvo. At least we just about avoided the five game losing streaks that plagued the Sampson and Johnson eras. Hopefully they won't become a long standing theme of Wilder's time here.

Interesting, those stats, I was wondering who was right, Cobblers1991 with three successive defeats or Steve Riches with five successive defeats.
Looks like neither, I make it four.
Just checked on Statto. Never lost more than 3 in a row under him. That said, we did often lose the game after the one we didn't lose, particularly last season.

His stubbornness and refusal to learn from his mistakes was what separated him from the great managers. Had he not been those, he may have taken us forward last season. We also didn't get smashed by other teams and we never had more than 3 defeats in a row under him.

Seeing as it is just over one year since Aidy Boothroyd was dismissed from his position, what are your views on his time at Northampton Town? Personally, I felt his first one and a half years were his best where he got us winning games regularly even when he was trying to save us from the conference.
He turned Kelvin Langmead into the 12th man on the field when previously it felt like having ten men on the field when he was playing. He resigned Guttridge, got Clarke Carlisle (hope he recovers), Alex Nicholls, Lee Nicholls, Matt Duke and others. Of course he got us some flops in his final season and at the time it was right for him to go. None the less, I think he was a decent manager for us, after all he did get us to Wembley.

We have done that with Marc Richards and we have a good setup that has produced some quality players like Bunn, Jacobs and Toney to name more recent ones although there has been dross like Herbert for instance. When you're in League Two you are going to be catching players from League One teams that aren't good enough to get in their former teams and want to get games under their belt. Sometimes you do get good ones like Alex Nicholls and Kelvin Langmead but most have been fairly unremarkable for us.
We definitely need a new fitness regime and that should be the first priority for any new investments after the redevelopment phrase is completed (if it gets completed).

Welcome 1991. Sorry you've had to put up with all that sorrow and you so young. Give yourself time to acclimatise and you'll soon get used to it and really enjoy it.
Its worth it for the occasional decent season, provided it isn't in the conference. Supporting Northampton has made me appreciate the value of winning that fans of bigger clubs will never quite understand

Well isn't it obvious?
It's you, you're a jinx!
I have thought that haha. In my defence, the few times that I am able to go to a game they do usually win. Even last season I went to four games before Boothroyd got sacked and they won two of them and the only game I've been to that they lost this season was Orient in the JPT. And that was after Wolves, Dagenham and Wimbledon.

Out of the last three games, only 6 players have started all three. We need some continuity and I think we can definitely start with Duke in goal, the exact same back 4 against Carlisle (lets be honest, most of us would pick that defence if everyone was available), replace Banks with D'ath or Mohamed and keep Richards and Toney up front. That is more or less the team we played regularly when we were actually doing well earlier in the season.

I've been following the Cobblers since 2007/2008 and in that time I have seen two seasons among the playoffs when it looked like we might actually get promoted, one relegation, one midtable and three seasons where going down to the Conference looked like a real possibility. At the time, we as fans felt lucky that we had recruited the likes of Gary Johnson, Aidy Boothroyd and now Chris Wilder as our managers and yet, we are exposed to a constant bunch of f**k ups that result in them being dismissed or people calling for their heads.
I refuse to believe that these managers doing poorly is a result of consistent bad luck or poor managerial ability. Johnson went to Yeovil, saved them from likely relegation from League One and got them promoted to the Championship the next season. Boothroyd had success at Watford, got us to Wembley with a fantastic home record and seems to be doing ok as England under-20's manager before getting sacked this time last year.
Basically my point is, does this go further than the managers and the team in general and should we be pointing the finger somewhere else? They have proven themselves in the past and are given a good budget by League 2 standards so why do they always fail here?
