The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Protest

Questions are now being asked (being honest, the only issue that bothers me is the First Land issue) and DC has made come out to explain at least some of the issues in the past week. If he's telling the truth about the takeover, which I have no reason to think he isn't, hopefully we will know who the new owners are by the time Leyton Orient come to Sixfields. Here's hoping anyway.

You must be the only people who can make Christmas feel like a funeral of close friend or family member. The administration rumours have about as much truth to them as Hitler proclaiming final victory while the Soviets close in on his Berlin bunker as Cardoza if needs be will bailout the club like he always does. Keep calm and carry on.

No. Not as long as DC is connected to the club in any way.
To grow you need the facilities first. Those that think you build a winning team then the rest will follow are so deluded and so far in the past as players catching the bus to games with the fans.
Cash is king. Even the billionaires need long term sponsorship, commercial and corporate deals the back up their empire. The only way to entice and excite businesses is to provide excellent facilities. If the facilities are not there they will not come, simple. Why do you think the corporate seats at Wembley and Manure are empty for 20 mins after half time? Because the sandwiches are crap?
By building fantastic facilities (this can be done in stages, not all in one go) creating a strong and exciting brand, a clear vision and selling the dream you will attract businesses who will want to get on board....sound familiar.
What commercial entity in their right mind would want to be linked to NTFC right now?
Why wouldn't they? Making small clubs big seems to be the thing nowadays, look at Hull, Wigan, Swansea and Bournemouth for instance. I would say Northampton has as much if not more potential than two of those when it comes to getting a big football team. If clubs like Burton and Fleetwood can rub shoulders with the teams in League One as equals on the pitch, why shouldn't Northampton? Stop downplaying our club.

Are Frankie & Benny's or TGI's any dearer than Carrs Bar, where it went up 30p a pint for the second season running !!
Haven't bought one from there for quite a while and not in a rush to do so. Shame Sixfields doesn't have a nearby Wetherspoons (unless it does but I don't live in Northampton sadly so wouldn't know).

Some very good and valid points here. I just want to add that that Id be happy if we could reach our potential, all things considered, which would see us as a lower championship club, watched by 8,000/10,000 home fans and capitalising on our location by regularly welcoming 2/3000 visiting fans.
What needs to happen is having a chairman who has genuine ambitions for the club, not one who just blows sound bites out of his arse and our supporters to be re engaged / introduced to supporting their local club.
With just under 2% of the town bothering to turn up at the moment, we would need just a minimal 2 or 3% rise to attend and we will have the 10,000 gates that would make us a good sized championship club. It would all come down to a good match day experience which has to include a large welcoming social club, good quality fairly priced food and drink and a decent atmosphere, these things combined will encourage new fans to get the bug and keep returning.
If we were to find some, say £3,000,000 of the missing £10, 500.000 how good would it be to finish the east and build a 3000 terrace behind the North or south stand, both preferably, that would give us one of the best, most popular atmospheric grounds in the leagues, which would also give us the ground fit to progress.
This is what you would've got had Mackintosh given me the dough
You've got me dreaming of big things already. We definitely need a new or bigger bar though as queing for 15-20 minutes is not my idea of fun. Barnet have a really good set up with theirs I think. The away fans definitely need their own one as well otherwise they have to pay London prices at Frankie and Benny's or TGI's.

With August out of the way, what do you guys make of how League Two is shaping up so far? Any teams catching your attention for any particular reason? Must be said, I expected Luton and Notts County to be doing better than they are and Newport look like they will have a very hard time staying up the way things are going over there.
At the other end, Leyton Orient and Plymouth look very good for getting promoted but Portsmouth, Wycombe and Oxford could be up there too come May (hopefully along with our beloved NTFC of course).
Might as well keep this thread going throughout the season for those of us who are interested in the rest of the league.

At any rate, I was just saying that it has been a demanding time for the players across all the clubs and I think it just needs to ease off which it will do after the Colchester game where Tuesday night fixtures become the exception rather than the norm. Just because they're footballers doesn't make them any less human than the rest of us. You could be forgiven we have a few people on here who have a touch of envy about them...

Aw, bless 'em. Clearly Big Dave is right to freeze the playing budget and invest in professional counsellors instead. I hear Camilla Batmanlardass is kicking her heels at the minute.
Yes, lets force our players to go a month with very little in the way of a social life so they can do training or travel to matches every day. Like us, they're human beings and they have to take on a workload that is a lot more than what we think. Everyone has their breaking points.

I'm a fan of the team but not Wilder. Most on here if they are honest feel the same way. Maybe on here but not among the general support. As far as I'm concerned, Wilder took a club that looked doomed to be relegated and saved them with a handful of rushed signings while last season, we more than likely would have gone up had it not been for the injury crisis plaguing us from October-December. Even then, he bought in Moloney, Holmes and Taylor who saw us become serious playoff contenders within a month from a starting point of 20th and two points off the drop zone. He is far from clueless and one of our better managers in recent years. Maybe you just take issue with the Northern bit...

Our schedule is no different from the other twenty three clubs in the division, so I'm not sure why anyone would think when the Tuesday Saturday rota finishes we will have any advantage. It will remain nonetheless interesting.
Only 10 (including us) League Two teams played this Tuesday just gone and some will have byes to the next round of the JPT so actually, it isn't an issue for all 24 clubs. Anyway, like I've said before, we haven't been able to play Holmes or Moloney at all this season, Diamond has been injured and we've had a couple of sending offs. Hopefully we will be able to repeat what we did in January and February last season throughout the entire season in this case.

It'll be interesting to see how the season goes for us after Tuesday when we shouldn't have matches every Saturday and Tuesday. It will have been tough on the squad mentally and physically and hopefully by the end of September, we should be looking good in the top seven. I still think the doom gloom mood expressed by some fans is completely unnecessary after only a few games. One could be forgiven for thinking that all you do is moan...
Also, what is Michu's problem with Wilder?

There are 92 clubs in the football league and not all of them can be at the top. On the other hand, clubs rise and fall all the time so hopefully we can be in the former when/if we get new owners. Life is long and it is entirely possible we might see our beloved NTFC play in the Premiership and the Conference within said lifetime but hopefully not the latter.
You may as well go back in time to 1765 and ask if the British Empire will ever fall.

I thought the interview shined a light on a few things such as not being in any financial trouble and why the Consortium have chosen to remain anonymous for now. The questions were very good and in my opinion were answered well enough to reassure me that all is well for the foreseeable future.

I refuse to take any notice from anyone who can't even spell "paid" correctly !!!
You're quite right and I apologise immediately. It's been a long day. Ok, guys saying we are doomed, where is your proof? As far as I can tell, these rumours are complete claptrap. In regards to the staff being paid late, I've been paid late in the past due to admin errors, it happens occasionally, it even happened to Leyton Orient last season who aren't exactly strapped for cash. I can offer far more credible evidence saying we are not in financial trouble by pointing at the calibre of players we have signed like Buchanan and Adams for instance. Those players don't come cheap and are League 1 standard really.

Going from posts on here, it seems to me that only a handful of people aren't acting hysterically over the whole takeover stuff with a couple even insisting that this Consortium doesn't even exist. That is about as convincing as the hollow Earth theory which is run by lizard people who run our lives. Others claim that the club is financially troubled with even one outlandish claim saying that players and staff have been paid late (rumour and like that has never happened to any of us before) and that there is another dispute with Buckinghams over the stand. For the record, yes the delays are frustrating and I would like to know the identity of the Consortium sooner rather than later. However, from the facts we have been given, the loan is being re-payed as scheduled as NBC haven't kicked up a fuss and NBC have also met the said consortium so that surely speaks for itself. That or DC is as stupid as some fans have said he is incredibly cunning for all the wrong reasons. That and I do genuinely believe that Cardoza cares about the club. He has put a lot of financial backing into this club and has always been generous with money when it comes to managers (Stuart Gray excluded) and it has become his pet project for the past 10 years or so. I don't believe he would leave it to rot or put it in the wrong hands at the drop of a hat. Has the redevelopment been handled badly? Of course it has. That is clear as day and it has been expressed at length on this forum more times than we have lost games in our history. But again, the reason why construction has stopped is because Buckingham's were told that the consortium might want to make modifications up to and including taking the whole thing down and starting again. In that case why finish when you might have to start all over again? I suggest that those of you who are always ranting about DC as though he is the devil incarnate, do what the thread title says. By all means, I'm happy to be proven wrong and if that day comes, I will take it on the chin. Until then, lets go beat Newcastle and see you at the Barnet game

And how do you know that? Are you privy to the accounts for instance? From what I hear on here we have either squandered all £12 million on the East Stand or we are repaying the loan through the loan. Which is it?
