1  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Time for changes before January on: Yesterday at 08:58:35
What tends to happen in football (with a struggling team) is that they will go a few games losing by the odd goal, appearing to be down on their luck etc. Players will get injured. Then the 'thrashings' kick in. Manager gets sacked, it starts all over again.

This occasion is unique in that the incumbent manager has not had a chance to recruit. Thats got to be a first? I Cannot recall a previous manager (Terry Fenwick maybe?) whom we've had that hasn't been responsible for at least part of the squad on his departure?

What is difficult to fathom out though is that we've had not one but two false dawns. Mini runs when we have looked rather good. The rest of the period has served up football on a par with the worst we've ever seen.

When Johnson was sacked we lost 7-2 and 4-0 in the two games which followed. Id predict something similar if JFH was relieved of his duties at this point in time. I went to the capitulation at Plymouth back then…3-0 down after 20 minutes. Plymouth were right at the bottom with us. So we've seen it all before!

Basically we need a big freshen up of the squad. Id argue 7 or 8 out, 3 or 4 in. And it needs to happen during the first week in January. It will be very expensive but thats our only chance of staying in this division. No manager will get 'this lot' doing well on a consistent basis, the heart isn't in them and theres too many deficiencies to cover up the huge cracks now that confidence is shot to bits. Im sure there are issues, goes with the territory when a football team is struggling so badly.

Its all very depressing but we are where we are, we've changed managers 3 times in the last 16 months and JFH hasn't had an opportunity yet to tap up his mates. He's high profile…that should help our case come January. We hope!
Again a good overview.

My concerns are how on earth do you ship out 7 or 8 players in early January?
Also will he be able to recruit the pacey players we require in the first week of January?

Happy Christmas and a more productive New Year......even KT said this morning (Radio Northampton) that he expects the legal issues to be resolved in the 'early new year' -December 2018?Huh??
2  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Time for changes before January on: December 10, 2017, 09:03:36 am
Obviously we are all waiting for reinforcements of a left winger and TWO strikers on January 1st but we have to pick up some points until then to keep in touch with the other teams.

Ash Taylor needs more help so I think we need 5 at the back by using Poole in a central 3. If Man United coaches think Regan is a defender I tend to go with their judgement. The advantage then is it enables the only two players who can supply quality crosses (Moloney and Smith) the chance to push forward.
The only players I feel we have who have the quality to score goals are McGugan, Long and Crooks so play the 3 together infront of the other eight.
Personally I do not think the kneejerk comments of change the manager AGAIN is the right reaction, it wasn't previously! It is up to JFH to get his finger out and get positive play and results in the short term.

I suggest;

              Taylor Poole Pierre
Moloney                               Smith
                 O'Toole Grimes
             McGugan          Crooks

WHEN Fraser has played 10 Premier league games for Everton we get...ONLY £150,000!
4  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Fraser Hornby on: December 07, 2017, 18:28:35 pm
Maybe a target for January 1st and follow Calvert-Lewin as a Cobblers Loanee?
5  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Fraser Hornby on: December 07, 2017, 16:55:18 pm
Ex-Cobblers youth player from Walgrave Fraser Hornby starts for Everton against Apollon Limassol this evening. I hope he has better luck with fitness than Lewis.(BT Sport 6pm).

Why do people struggle so much with player names.

Brendan Maloney being a prime example, it's Moloney.

Seems the new one is Lewis McCugan, it's McGugan guys.

500 minutes AND increasing this time without a goal!

This is the 3rd spell of goalless sequences this season......................please give the fans some endeavour to cheer, otherwise called a 'goal'!

8  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Is anyone else? on: December 01, 2017, 11:28:45 am
If I knew I had to wait 1 month or 1 year for a decision from the council then I would put up with it BUT it is the not knowing way we just have to bounce along the bottom being totally out of the loop!

I also feel KT could publish a plan for the Stadium, with the previso that it is conditional on the hoped for decision from the some positive news!!!
9  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: January 2018 Transfer Rumours Thread on: November 29, 2017, 19:18:22 pm
I am happy to be guided by the coaching staff who see them every day in training instead of a few keyboard opinions.

I think the catalyst is the fact that we only have League 2 standard strikers who are not doing the business, rather than the two youngsters being so good!
10  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: January 2018 Transfer Rumours Thread on: November 28, 2017, 16:36:43 pm
I heard a rumour that a winger was coming in.
It must not be a rumour it must be a FACT! (left winger)

and two pacey strikers joining minimum.
11  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Why does Jimmy ? on: November 26, 2017, 17:45:46 pm
I believe we should be working on set pieces a lot more than we clearly do.

We have decent height in the team and with McGuigan and Grimes on his day, we should be able to create more quality than we currently do.

This tippy tappy football is great but we just dont have the end result so why not go long flood the box and work on set plays more its not rocket science.
You mean HOOF IT!

'tippy tappy' football? I just call it 'football' played at the right pace.
12  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Bury - Saturday 25th November on: November 26, 2017, 08:35:41 am
Apart from Crooks NONE of the other three midfielders got close to Richards or Long in open play, so how on earth are we supposed to have sustained attacking pressure I do not know.

Can somebody please explain why so many people in the West stand moaned when the ball was not hoofed immediately from the back? Do they know what proper football is, which I thought broke out occasionally?

Most fans know we have to sit on our hands and wait for the pacey attacking cavalry to arrive on January 1st. I just hope the deals are sorted soon so they are available at the start of the year!
13  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Northampton NIL on: November 25, 2017, 18:09:25 pm
That was the half time entertainment!
14  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Northampton NIL on: November 25, 2017, 17:50:24 pm
Northampton NIL .......goes on and on and on......................

but Jimmy says please do not boo!

I have not been entertained this season!
15  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Northampton NIL on: November 22, 2017, 12:36:16 pm
My opinion for a solution is to change the intent shown by JFH's selection.

We are not creating, let alone, scoring enough chances presently with one up front. Whilst we need new attacking options on January 1st until then Long must have more players alongside and sprinting beyond him in matches so we have options in the box. If that is Waters alongside Long, and not on the distant wing, or another player so be it.

I reiterate the intent starts with JFH's selection whose formation I disagree with.
16  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Northampton NIL on: November 22, 2017, 10:03:36 am
As it is now more than half our games we have failed to score surely the answer is NOT to play Long upfront on his own!!!

If as a defender you know one mistake will probably cost you the game, this adds even more pressure on the team. We had a similar feeling under Atkins on occasions when the opposition scored you thought a draw is the best we can hope for.
Conversley if a striker thinks he will only get one chance created for him in a game, again this adds pressure to the player.
The eathos of the team originates from the manager and on his arrival previous clubs fans stated he was too cautious and I believe we are seeing that come to fruition.

The entertainment value for fans is decreasing.

It is stating the obvious that we are putting all our hopes into staying in touch until January 1st and then signing two pacey strikers and a winger to give us a chance of League 1 football next season.

Also for those who state we need to offload ten players, one question, who too?

Thanks AS
18  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The Iron - AGAIN (H) 18th November on: November 15, 2017, 18:29:56 pm
We have to create more scoring chances and goals from midfield are paramount, so I suggest the following as a starting X1

Moloney Taylor Pierre Buchanan

                O'Toole Poole

  McGugan  Crooks     Grimes

19  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The Iron (A) FAC Replay 14/11 on: November 14, 2017, 21:04:02 pm
Then I have no idea why Lobbo and Icao aren't recalled
Maybe it is because the management believe they are not better than the League TWO standard strikers we have in the squad!!!
20  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Facebook Q&A Wednesday 15th 7-8pm on: November 14, 2017, 18:24:42 pm
I hope the club or a 'hotelender' keep us neanderthal's in touch with information who are not on facebook!

I do not think KT would be shot down if he outlined his target plans for the stadium (even if he does not achieve it in the future).

Does he have any plans to try and sign up any of the loan players in January, plus have they approached any forward players to sign on January 1st?
