I'd go with this then:

             O'Donnell

Moloney Poole Ash Turnbull

Ariyibi Crooks Grimes Bunney

             JJOT
                    Long
2  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Scunny (A) 17th Feb on: February 16, 2018, 10:01:31 am
Turnbull left back and Bunney left wing for this game hopefully. Van Veen up top with Ariyibi on the right and O'Toole behind the striker.... bring it on!

Facey in for Moloney if fully fit as well?

I know it's a game of opinions, but I'd be interested to see why you'd play Foley in the middle ahead of O'Toole? O'Toole was in League 2 team of the year in this position, and probably our star player in the same position last season.
Foley has looked far too lightweight for me in the middle. Seems to lose most 50/50s, poor positional play and doesn't offer much in ability. I personally think his work rate and stamina is definitely better appreciated offering balance on the wing.

For me it is not playing Foley ahead of JJOT, but JJOT has been so outstanding in behind Long (winning player of the month) that we should keep him there. Also, he hasn't played in the middle of the park for a long time now, still doesn't look 100% fit to me and it showed against the Gills midfield when he was put in there.

Foley has a much higher work rate and is not afraid to get stuck in either, so should be ideally suited. I for one would rather see McWilliams played in the middle though.

Oh, and don't boo if the players are awful.  Wink

Another game where we could do with a pick me up.

Will our decent away form stick or will we get another performance like the first half on Tuesday?

Will the old player curse strike and Toney will net a hat trick?

Will there be changes to the team? Oh wait, we know the answer to this.  Grin

Did anyone else realise that JJOT was now player-manager?

Thereís nothing like being at the ground if you want a true picture of whatís going on. You can pick up bits from commentary though. A number of times Tim O commented that players in the channel didnít have an option to pass to and were isolated. This happened a few times and that possibly could indicate a lack of effort and urgency? When you watch the best sides the player on the ball nearly always seems to have 3 or 4 options. It just struck me that this was identified as an issue a few too many times. Perhaps too many coasting last night, particularly first half?

There was a real lack of effort in the first half all round, our movement off the ball was non existent and this didn't help us keep the ball. There was a lot of "up and under" ball that we failed to get underneath and didn't win a single 50/50 tackle.

Eventually this got to the players, and they were failing to connect with passes that were only ten yards to open men, looked like scared rabbits stuck in the glare of the headlights.

Second half was like a different team but we had given ourselves too much to do.

That's another thing, I thought the Gillingham corners were excellent and maybe Grimes put as few balls in like they did.

Whipped in with lots of pace, almost like a shot on goal and caused panic every time they came in.

O'Donnell's kicking was woeful again tonight, don't think that helped the cause either. Still pissed off that JFH made his usual crazy changes that seemingly confused the team, but surely the players must take some of the blame for that first half.

Different team again against Sc***horpe? Definitely not making the trip for that one after today.

"Man City are 3-0 up already."
"Wish I'd stayed in and watched Man City."
"That's the game over then."

Followed by lots of:

"Should be 5-0 down by now."
"2-1, still got a chance."
"Bunney is having a mare, Buchs should be playing."

Ariyibi, I think he made a massive difference when he came on.
11  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Gilly @ Home 13th Feb on: February 13, 2018, 22:28:28 pm
Shambolic first half followed by a pretty decent second half, but got exactly what we deserved tonight.

Fairplay to the crowd, everyone tried to get behind the team and made some noise second half but I am dumbstruck how we play so bad at times.

JFH must take some blame for playing Foley almost everywhere other than centre mid where he would excel and dropping JJOT back into midfield when he has won player of the month just behind the striker (plus Van Veen was injured).

Ariyibi must have earned himself a starting role on Saturday, Berto might have done if he had left the ref alone at the final whistle. McWilliams must be wishing he went out on loan to get some football.

Luckily most teams around us lost, so will take that as a positive.

Inept and lifeless.

Nobody seems to want it.

We are being undone by a long ball in behind, and havenít won a 50/50 ball the entire half. Should be at least 4-0 down.

Not sure how we end up being such a clueless side sometimes. Foley must get fed up of playing in a different position every ten minutes.

Poor decision to drop Crooks and put JJ back in the middle (if that is where he is actually playing).

Ten more minutes of this and it will be an early night for me. **** awful.

That's because it's still winter.

Same thing these days.

This has draw all over it.

Would be happy with that to be fair.

Pancake day, people prefer pancakes these days

Meh, can't wait for the football tonight.

Really hope we smash them.
16  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Gilly @ Home 13th Feb on: February 13, 2018, 16:23:46 pm
Doesn't seem to be much buzz around tonight, despite it being a pretty huge game for us.

I know it's a freezing cold Tuesday in spring, but we should all be excited?  Grin
17  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Gilly @ Home 13th Feb on: February 13, 2018, 12:24:43 pm
Given the amount of times he played Iím amazed anyone recognised him?

Thought 20-odd games of being a pretty decent defender would have been enough.

Plus being pretty tall and having a nice little Mohawk made him quite recognisable I thought.  Grin

Stick with a winning team for me, so the same eleven that started at AFC on Saturday.

Tough game as they have been in form, be nice to see Zak again but hope he doesn't get the abuse he got at the away game.

Hope the old players curse doesn't strike, we need the points!

Big games elsewhere at the bottom end effecting us(Oldham vs MK, Bury vs Southend,  hopefully if results go our way we can pull further away from the relegation places.
19  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Wimbledon (a) on: February 11, 2018, 09:05:57 am
A massive improvement on last week.

Slightly baffling selection (for me and a lot of others at least) of Powell/Hoskins out wide showed JFH knows his players, and in the 4-4-1-1 formation we looked comfortable again.

I thought the first half was pretty awful, the weather and prima donna ref certainly didn't help matters but we showed signs of being effective on the counter attack. Van Veen has good movement, once everyone knows where he is going will be a huge asset for us.

JJOT was so lucky to get the pen, and Crooks was lucky to still be on the pitch by half-time. Once they got there goal in the first few minutes of the second half, we did well to soak up a fifteen minute or so spell of pressure without conceding. We looked reasonably solid although but could not get hold of or keep hold of the ball and they did have chances.

Once the second goal went in, we looked a different team. Crooks took the game by the scruff of the neck and showed why we paid good money to bring him here. Hopefully we can see more of that version of him. Powell and Hoskins worked hard as well as looking to get forward, such a calm finish from Powell for the goal.

Overall, I felt happy enough (and cold and wet) when I left. Getting the three points was the most important thing and luckily results around us went okay. Still need something on Tuesday, that will be a much tougher game.

Thought JFH got team selection spot on today. Both Powell and Hoskins had cracking games. Fully deserved win

Totally agree, although it wasn't what I would have chosen!  Grin
