1  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: NTFC FOR SALE on: Yesterday at 13:02:41
Nothing new here, the club is and always has been up for sale if someone came along willing to buy, this is a move to go public to try and force the councils hand
2  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: NEWS: Cobblers sign Doncaster striker Andy Williams on: May 22, 2018, 10:55:37 am
This is the market we are now in .
League 2 is a different ball game and we are not going to attract players that blow your socks off .
Williams seems a decent enough striker with a good record .
It does hit home that we are only replacing Rico and Revell with more of the same , if not a down grade !
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but one of those two should have been kept .
The JFH factor came into play there though and he knew best .

IMO Williams (If fully fit) is an upgrade on Richards and Revs - Rico is 3 years older (which once you hit 30+ is a fair bit older) and you could clearly see not good enough for Lg1

Revs was never a goal scorer and is also 34 - this guy is more of a natural finisher.

If offered 1 of the 3 tomorrow I'd take Williams every day of the week.
3  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: NEWS: Cobblers sign Doncaster striker Andy Williams on: May 21, 2018, 15:02:31 pm
Had injury problems last season, that is why he didn't play many games.

He knows league 2, so on paper a good signing.

He did yes, but on retuning from injury did not get much of look in, funny as marquis was hardly setting the world alight
4  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: NEWS: Cobblers sign Doncaster striker Andy Williams on: May 21, 2018, 14:46:34 pm
Decent signing at this level, scored plenty for swindon and yeovil in lg2.

My worry would be, he couldn't get in a poor Doncaster team, also not the pacy forward we need, but hopefully first of a few

Surely this news is 'too good to be true' tho 😂😂😂😂😂😂
5  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Which players would you like to see the club try to sign? on: May 21, 2018, 12:25:48 pm
Be prepared to be shocked as I find it unlikely we will sign  6 new players - even if 6 or more leave!

Well I for one am pretty pleased with your assessment Nevers, because usually what you say/think is going to happen is quite the opposite from reality.

I thought a troll was a big ugly fcuker, who lives under bridges and attacks goats!

Swearing or bleating optional!  Tongue

That actually describes Cecil quite nicely 😂😂😂😂

Just watching Brackley at Wembley, that James Armson is a class midfielder. I think he has a very good job outside football but you would think you should be able to sort out some sort of deal.

His been discussed lots in tge past and his regular job (nor sure what it is possibly lawyer?) Pays far more than we would be able to afford, so unless he is happy to take a significant wage drop to become a pro footballer ir isn't gonna happen!

Based on facts like Crooks and Pierre previously having been in the League 2 team of the year? Itís a pretty bold shout that Taylor, Facey and McWilliams will struggle in League 2 based on their performances for us to date.

A good coach should find a way to set those players out in a way that at least negates some of their weaknesses, itís not like we tried to play in Lg1 with Conference players. The reverse of what you say is also true, put a bad coach (or man manager, or motivator) in charge of a competent group and they will struggle. The managers role is underplayed imo. ďWhy didnít the players try harder/take it upon themselves to sort the problemĒ is often said but what do you think happens to a player that doesnít follow managers orders. Maybe there is a reason we didnít see McWilliams much under JFH for example. Maybe the youthful exuberance was too much, maybe he felt he was leaving his position by closing down the opposition, we just donít know.

I haven't an issue at all with Taylor,  facey ir Mcwilliams they are all more than good enough for lg2 (assuming they will all still be here). We have 7-8 that are good enough to mount a challenge. As I've said all along tho assuming those 7-8 stay we still need to sign 5-6 decent players to be competing at the top end. I also haven't got a problem with someone hoskins being a squad player, but if he is starting week in week out we will finish closer to tge bottom than the top.
9  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Which players would you like to see the club try to sign? on: May 20, 2018, 03:22:00 am

So you donít believe any of Facey, Taylor, Pierre, McWilliams, Crooks, Foley, Hoskins, Powell for example are good enough for league2? You said weíd struggle, by which I assume you meant bottom 5 or 6?

Based on facts (this seasons results but more importantly performances) yes. As others have said tge gulf in ability was there to see mot weeks. Ontop of that you could gave tge best coach in tge world in charge but if tge players are not good enough then they are not good enough

Anyway what will be will be and you can only hope DA gets it right. Back to the thread title, what about Tom Hopper released by scunny today, Leicester boy - one of those involved in the incident with Adam Smith. Might well score goals in lg2?

Luke Williams also released by scunny (remember him), injuries aside had some creativity and quality
11  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Which players would you like to see the club try to sign? on: May 18, 2018, 21:47:05 pm
Agree to some extent but as I said before a lot of the issues were still there after jimmy left. So yes he was a major problem and reason for our relegation however the lack of actual quality in our squad played a major part

No but add in that JFH has gone and...

13  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Which players would you like to see the club try to sign? on: May 18, 2018, 20:33:26 pm
Part of me feels like DA thinks this team is better than it is judging by some of his comments. We had the worst defence in the league last season and only Bury scored less than us. Hasselbainkís tactics canít be solely to blame for that. There was a clear lack of quality in the playing staff throughout the season. If DA doesnít significantly add to this squad I can see us struggling again. I know itís a lower division but the confidence around the squad canít be that high, these players have just been relegated.

Agree with a lot of this, a lot of lasts years issues are not just going to disappear because we are playing a level lower
14  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Which players would you like to see the club try to sign? on: May 18, 2018, 18:47:09 pm
Nicky Law and Tony McMahon have been released by Bradford.

Agree both these would add quality to our squad
15  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Which players would you like to see the club try to sign? on: May 18, 2018, 14:33:08 pm
League 2, piece of p*ss !! JJ Hooper even managed to score a hatrick in Grimsby's last match, I rest my case.

P.S. As long as Cornell is NOT our first choice keeper !

Yeah it's so crap we bounced back straight away last time we were here didn't we 🙈🙈🙈
16  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Which players would you like to see the club try to sign? on: May 18, 2018, 14:31:52 pm
There was a reason Long wasnít involved at the end of the season .
He wonít be returning !

Instead we had to endure the delights of hoskins!
17  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Roberts & Whaler Sign Contracts on: May 18, 2018, 07:25:29 am
Yep true but if youíre going back as far as Butcher then there are plenty more we could cite that were given plenty of first team chances. There will always be those we let slip but we donít do too bad in general.

Letís hope Austin is good on his word on creating the links between the first and youth teams.

It's always good to see young boys coming through the ranks and going on and doing well, so hope so and by the looks of things austin will be good at giving them a chance.

I doubt if Glastonbury watched many at all!

😂😂😂😂
19  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Which players would you like to see the club try to sign? on: May 17, 2018, 22:54:01 pm
Youíre moving the goalposts now, you said weíd get relegated if all we did was add 3 or 4 to what we have. At best thatís hyperbole!

Of course if a number of our better players leave a hell of a lot will rest on how we replace them, as is the case for every club in the land.

I stand by the fact we will struggle if we only sign 3-4 players and no one leaves. That would give us a bare decent 10-11.

That said given where we are it us inevitable there will be departures,  some we will be pleased to see (Kasim, Bowditch etc) Some will be not what we want to here (moat likely O Donnell, Facey etc). Time will tell and as you say how we replace them is key.
20  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Roberts & Whaler Sign Contracts on: May 17, 2018, 22:32:46 pm
If theyíre good enough theyíll get chances McWilliams, Toney, Jacobs show that. Austin certainly seems keen to bring the youth through, I donít think heís the type to cut his nose of by ignoring a player that will help us. Time will tell.

Weíve not had many examples of players that were given contracts only to be never played and released that then became league players, Danny Green being the only one I can think of.

Not sure if they were ever given pro contracts but ...

Greg Taylor did at Cambridge I think

And the late Richard Butcher  went to Diamonds whilst they were in the league, Lincoln and Macclesfield too.
