So if I've read that correctly, Jimmy thinks he kept things more or less as they were on tuesday from the Wombles game because he went with his heart, thinking they did so well that they deserved another opportunity, when in his head and with hindsight, he now realises he should have made wholesale changes from the Wombles game.
Not sure too many are gonna agree with that.
9  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The death of the midfield general...? on: February 14, 2018, 17:25:07 pm
Ok fair play I would argue he didnít pick him out more miss the first man for the first time in an eternity.  Nothing McWilliams or Foley couldnít do and they can tackle
I think you are being generous frankly Stag. it was no more than a wedge towards the penalty spot from about thirty yards. Something that I'd hope every player in the squad would be able to execute.
10  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: J F H on: February 14, 2018, 17:06:29 pm
So every new player (who is fit and available) played, except Bridge?

JFH is a monster.
Which begs the question.
Why did JFH put an 'injured' midfielder on the bench and leave 'one of his own' midfielders out of the eighteen?
And if Crooks isn't injured, why didn't he play him from the off, or bring him on after 15 mins when it became apparent we were being overrun?

Unlucky Cobblers, I feel your improvement in the second half maybe merited a point.

If you want a recap of the match, or if you happened to not be able to come, check out my vid which contains all of the goals:

Tell me what you think!
Not bad!
I fear you might get criticised locally for your description of our nice modern ground though.

Talking of Tim O he set a quiz last night, which 5 current league managers have played for us? I made it thereís 6. Perhaps I heard him wrong? Paul Wilkinson, Paul Harsley, Sean Dyche, Chris Wilder, David Artell, Paul Tidsdale.
Tim got the first five but had to be reminded of Tisdale.
13  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The 'Clare Balding' POTS: The Gills (h) 13/02/2018 on: February 14, 2018, 11:32:12 am
I try not to vote for Balding or anyone who played less than 45 mins (you could argue that rules out the whole team) but Iím going for Moloney.
Similar thoughts for me. Wasn't giving it to Clare or Arry either.
JJ although played further back was still influential, but Moloney also gets my vote (perhaps the contrast between him and Bunney was what stands out).

Could you also include if we have conceded after we have cleared the ball but it came straight back in?

PS Can anyone from the North Stand confirm that Powell ducked out of that header, it certainly looked like it from where I sit.
That's an interesting one. I was following the ball from Hoskins cross rather than Powell so am not the best judge, but it looked to me like he just got the header wrong (let's face it, for a man his size he's not the best in the air).
Most around me were convinced he ducked out though, but I gotta say the defender was not real tight, so I'm not sure what it was he is supposed to have ducked out of.
On another point, Hilda I think was right to be agrieved over that ref's decision, although it was absolutely no reason to wind himself up to the point that five minutes later he gets himself sent off. Imo TO called that wrong on radio later.

I've now seen Turnbull play left back twice and thought he looks excellent there. Centre back two or three times, and think he looks a bit of a liability/brings Taylor down with him. Not sure if it's Turnbulls fault, or if it is Bunney giving him no protection? Either way, I'd prefer Poole and Taylor in the middle until Pierre returns.

O'Toole finally played in his perceived best position by us amateur football managers, albeit at a very odd time (on the back of a POTM award in the No. 10 role!), and he also struggled. We really could have used Crooks in there.

On the positives, I thought Powell, Ariyibi and Hilda worked very well together for a short spell. I said at the time they needed a link up striker (Van Veen?) as Long appeared to disappear during our one positive spell.

We're rapidly coming into the closing stages of the season. Hopefully JFH can find his best 11 quickly.
Trumbull has impressed me also. He had a very good game at Blackburn having two jobs to do with Bunney covering him.
Yep, I said last night Hilda Powell and Arry could be a winning combination behind VV, and Rico would have been rubbing his hands at that prospect too.
I think JJ would work deeper with those three ahead of him coming from deep and for set pieces. I'd play him alongside Crooks initially rather than Grimes with McWilliams on bench.
As has been said, JFH needs to quickly find a couple of systems that work and stick to them, putting the right players in the right positions for those systems, rather than play the individuals he fancies on any particular afternoon/evening.

No. I can't be sure what type of cake it was and only said it looked like carrot cake. It might have been ginger cake or parkin cake.

What type would be easier to make?
We won't know the answer to that until the end of the baking season.
Keep up Frank.

Did you not see our bloke during the chip the ball in the skip. I split tea all down my coat because of his last effort.
I thought you said 78 was upstairs eating his carrot cake?..
18  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: J F H on: February 13, 2018, 23:17:22 pm

Presume you are referring to them not us?  Aryibi repeatedly skinned their full back ball...ball goes out of play ..he gets moved to left midfield ..utter chaos
He If we'd have stuck with Aryibi, Powell and Hilda in a three playing behind Long with JJ and Grimes holding, we might have got something from tonight.
The most inept ntfc representative on show tonight was again JFH.

KVV won't be playing, he's injured, just spoke with the man himself...
What's he done?
