1  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Who should I support if there was no NTFC? on: Today at 09:41:14
How about Melbourne Football Club also known as the Demons? I was shocked to learn that they are the oldest club of any code in the world affiliated in 1858 4 years before Notts County. On second thoughts donít bother, the games as boring as bats 5hit.
2  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Rochdale away- 17/10/17 on: Yesterday at 22:21:27
Had to miss the friggin second half and all this happens. This country is absolute pants for following football. Still made my week though. Can somebody who was there do the marks out of ten review thing. That bloke at the Chronic is on drugs.

Can we rehash this thread into a paperback, a bit like Jeremy Clarkson does with his Sunday Times columns. Itís a bloody good read.

I donít think theyíve got one trick between them!

Have waited for a couple of hours to gather some thoughts. But for me, there's clearly not been enough background research done on the players we have signed.

Without wanting to constantly harp back to Wilder and Knill, they did just as much research on a player's character as they did into their ability.

Clearly the recruitment has been woefully lacking in that department since those two left, whether it's now down to the managers or Melville, I don't know. What I do know is that we have effectively been left with a group of shrinking violets.

Unless we take the lead, which with our scoring record at the moment is highly unlikely, we just don't stand a chance.

With the exception of Buchanan, and possibly Ash Taylor and McWilliams, there's absolutely no leaders, characters or grafters out there. Hardly anyone geeing others up when the going gets tough, dropped heads all around the place, nobody taking the game by the scruff of the neck to inspire their teammates.

I don't like to say this, but I think it's already too late. I think we're going to have too much to do by January. I sincerely hope I'm eating these words in a couple of month's time.
Amen. Many of the players signed have been touted to play at a much higher level. Guess weíre finding out first hand why they didnít make it? Got the ability apparently, but not got the mental fortitude it seems? If you are going to make it you need to tick all the boxes. No room for one trick show ponies in this game.

I fell asleep, seems I missed another car crash in slow motion by all accounts? Changing the manager ainít going to help us, it would be like putting a ribbon round a dog turd. You stick an Ian Taylor, Eddie McGoldrick and Bayo in that side it would transform us. JFH can tinker with formations and tactics all he likes, our season was defined before a ball was kicked. Getting a reincarnation of the 3 players I mentioned in January wonít be easy either?
7  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: AFC Wimbledon (H) 14th October on: October 13, 2017, 22:30:35 pm
Thoughts about this game have meandered all week. Still expecting a much improved performance but currently thinking a draw, probably 0-0. Depends a lot on the team sheet really. Mind you, the only thing to predict with any confidence about us at the moment is that there will be a lot of activity come January.
8  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Leon Lobjoit on: October 13, 2017, 03:40:46 am
Same size ball, same size goal. I don't subscribe to 'protecting' youngsters from the rigours of League One when the seniors already there have been unable to score a goal of their own in open play for so long that more of the same just shows suicidal tendencies.
I wouldnít play either of them Steve. I honestly think Harry Kane would struggle upfront for us at the minute? We just donít create enough quality chances. Imagine if we had put either of them upfront last Saturday and the same thing would have happened? They would need a back bone of tungsten not to be affected by that, it could be the ruination of them? The problem at the moment in my book is creativity, and we need to be blooding those lads in a side playing well and with confidence. Chucking them in as Northampton Towns last hope comes at a risk that I wouldnít take personally, although I fully understand the arguments for doing so. Having made my point Iím off to run for cover!
9  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: False dreams on: October 11, 2017, 21:12:10 pm
We're s hit people with s hit lives who support a s hit club from a s hit town. That's the way it's always been. But we have our moments and it keeps us going. Come on Cobblers!
A bit harsh, it depends who you are comparing yourself to? You might disagree if you were reading this and came from North Korea, Mogadishu or Peterborough?
10  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Welcome Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink on: October 10, 2017, 22:00:36 pm
Been giving this a lot of thought since the weekend (who hasnít). IMO the shocking performance was caused by too many problems at once, creating a sort of perfect storm type scenario. Unbalanced squad, far too many injuries, poor tactical decisions, loss of form, players going awol, poor team selection (in part enforced), lack of an experienced leader on the pitch and Bristol turning up and playing out of their boots. Anyway, the point of the post (thank god) is that JFH is probably only responsible for a couple and even then you could argue this was only in part due to circumstance. In any event mistakes happen with every manager, and Jimmys have been magnified by the scale of defeat. But itís only one game and only 3 points lost, so not much different to 0-1. The problem with Page and Edinburgh was they kept repeating the same mistakes against all evidence and logic over and over again. I really donít think JFH will do that.
11  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Bristol Rovers (H) 7th October on: October 10, 2017, 03:24:34 am
If we get there, I think we should view 100 years continuous league membership as an achievement and maybe even celebrate it a little, because the odds of that happening have been against us several times over the years  Smiley
Quite right Mr J, in fact talking of celebration I can be quite clearly seen on the club video skipping joyfully across the grass at Gay Meadow!
12  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: October 09, 2017, 09:22:44 am
In my opinion you will only get a guarantee of a morally well run club if it is owned and run by the fans. However, that comes with its own set of problems like trouble with investment or paralysis by consensus to name but a few. This will probably lead to the club at best stagnating. As we all know, the alternative is an investor who may have a variety of motivations that rarely include love of the club? This may lead to success but it seems to me big guns aside (but not always, Rangers, Leeds etc etc) it can often lead to bankruptcy ruination and a downward spiral to oblivion. The way I see it itís either A or B, there is no C. Anybody up for A, we were the first to be owned by a supporters trust. Could we be pioneers again at some point and be a club wholly and solely run by the fans, how great would that be, seriously? No, youíre right, Iím back off to the bottom of the garden with the fairies, cheerio.
13  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Bristol Rovers (H) 7th October on: October 09, 2017, 02:48:30 am
Now donít all shout at me but I always read with interest the expectation of some that we should be a Championship club? On the flip side given our almost unbroken occupation of the bottom 2 divisions you could argue that we are actually over achieving by never dropping out of the league? As you know this is a fate that has befallen many a league club with some never to return? Just saying, and after all that lot in the Premiership seem to do nothing but moan anyway so whatís the difference? Perhaps enjoying seasons like under CW or 86/87 is the best we should hope for? Iím getting a really uneasy feeling Iíve just said the wrong thing?
14  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Players You Thought Wouldn't Amount To Anything But Who Turned Out Decent.... on: October 08, 2017, 09:27:39 am
Steve Brown, thought it was a joke when we plucked him from the Sunday League and Irthliingborogh. Mind you didnít Bobby Robson say he was the best amateur heíd ever seen? Anyway, he was terrific and Martin ONeill took him away to Wycombe where he played out the rest of his career as a corner stone of their midfield, shows you what I know. Great player Steve.
15  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: 10 hours on: October 08, 2017, 09:16:39 am
Without injury time played I make it 588 minutes since a Cobblers player scored a goal!! Yet Bristol Rovers can score 5 in 29 minutes!!

AFC next up....the lowest scorers in the division, however they have only conceded 14 in 12 games too.......0-0 draw anyone?!
I reckon weíll win, seriously, in my book the most likely outcome of yesterday is a bit of a shuffle and a big response.
16  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Bristol Rovers (H) 7th October on: October 08, 2017, 01:51:56 am
Decent post MC - I was so shocked by our overall performance and complete ineptitude of many of the players. Think I will do what you claim to have done - is sleep on it. Actually how did you manage to sleep on it?
Tossed and turned Evers, tossed and turned. Tossing more than turning if I'm honest.
17  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Bristol Rovers (H) 7th October on: October 08, 2017, 00:10:16 am
I have had the advantage of sleeping on this and yet I feel worse this morning. Yes we've got a shocking injury list, yes JFH made mistakes. Yes the squad is unbalanced with no width and no obvious leader on the pitch. However, when you have all this against you and are on the ropes that is when you earn your corn. You go man for man, you press, you work and you get right up the arse of the opposition and scrap for everything. What you don't do is rock back on your heels, shrug your shoulders, stick your hand down your shorts and play with your bell end. Forget the excuses it's the ineptitude that is both unexplainable, unacceptable and unforgivable. Form, injuries and selection issues you couldn't do much about on the pitch yesterday, effort you can. JFH has probably learned more yesterday than in his previous games put together. But It's only one game and it doesn't make our season however sickening it was, the same as the first win under Jimmy didn't either. But we can't have back to back or indeed any more performances like that, cause there is no excuse for ineptitude.

Goodnight everyone, see you all next week.

Getting absolutely slaughtered on Noddy by Harper and Tim so you know it's bad. Too many injuries, too imbalanced a squad and too many players past it.
20  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Bristol Rovers (H) 7th October on: October 07, 2017, 15:42:00 pm
Drat 0-1
How's the R & R thing going, I'm on Noddy at the minute?
