1  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Legends Day - 17th March 2024 on: January 18, 2024, 21:12:22 pm
Looking forward to this great initiative. Lots of former players coming back for a full 11 v 11 game plus hospitality options as well. According to the website the following players are confirmed as coming:

Steve Berry, Steve Massey, Wakeley Gage, Phil Chard, David Norton, Steve Phillips, Bobby Barnes, Chris Willmott, Roy Hunter, Kelvin Langmead, Gary Sargent, Keith Bowen, Irvin Gernon, Ian Clarkson, Paul Stratford, Lee Harper, Michael Harriman, Jason Burnham, Paul Wilson, Andy Holt, David Buchanan, Tommy Jaszczun, Alfie Potter, Joel Byrom, Chris Burns, Marc Richards, Aidy Mann, Chris Dunn, Michael Warner, Craig Hinton, Luke Graham, Ian Sampson, Leon Barnett, Chris Doig, Abdul Osman, Derek Asamoah, Luke Guttridge, Josh Low, Ryan Gilligan, Ian Benjamin, Scott McGleish and Chris Carruthers.

A few in there with legendary status and a few questionable ones maybe but all ex-players welcome. I'm hoping for Andy Woodman, John Frain, Pat Gavin, Tony Adcock and Paul Culpin to be added.
Anybody else got any favourites they would like to see at this event?

Paul Stratford?
When I was 12 or 13 I went to Spencer Boys High School and on one occasion Paul Stratford came along as a cobblers player and addressed us all in assembly, in one of those ‘ex-pupil made good’ visits that schools do.
Well I’m 62 now so how old must he be?
2  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Welcome Louie Moulden on: January 16, 2024, 20:40:17 pm
I’m interested that he has been given as having assists
Likely where a striker has latched on to a long punt downfield.

That this poll/subject even exists is outrageous!

McWilliams

Good to get the result that our great performance deserved (although we really should have scored more).  I’m particularly pleased because I brought along a couple of friends today (as we’re down in Exeter for a golf break). They initially weren’t keen on taking in the game, but afterwards were asking what other away fixtures we could build a golf weekend around…

Did the ball cross the line; Yes or No?
Beyond that question there really is no need for technology. If the decision following VAR intervention remains arguable then what is the point of it. Might as well just leave it to the ref…

This may be a game to start with McWilliams. But not at Sowerby’s expense...

Watt sort of performance will we get as we wear our new electric peppermint third kit for the first time. Will Cheltenham offer negative resistance as we charge forward and socket to them in a dazzling display? Will A(m)perre light up the scoreboard as we bring ohm the points and volt up the table? My current mood is positive and I hope not to be brought down to earth.

Can I just say the lack of response to this is shocking!

Pinnock for the second game running - the boy’s on fire
12  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The Nene Derby 19.08.23 on: August 19, 2023, 23:17:14 pm
At the time I was dubious about whether the ball crossed the line, but having just watched it back on EFL highlights their keeper is so far behind the line that he’s standing on the net.

We rode our luck at times with Peterborough looking a level above the two other teams that have visited us so far this season; even so we competed well with them and once again we grew stronger as the game went on - especially after the double substitution. That’s two strong finishes and two 90+ minute goals in consecutive games. I’m sticking by my prediction of a top 6 finish

7) Posh haven’t to Cobblers in a Football League game since April 1, 2006, over 17 years ago

Any idea what the speedway clown is on about?  Grin

14  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer Transfer Window 2023 on: August 17, 2023, 15:10:06 pm
People talking about simply replacing Pinnock are deluded. I think Wrexham might have looked at that before deciding to raid our squad. He's a very good player even at League 1 level.
Does anybody remember the snapshot first half against Lincoln? If that goes in it would have been the goal of the season. The scouting on him and a few others that season was unusually good. Are were so sure we can replace like for like? I'm definitely not.

Quite right. First of all, the odds of the transfer fee being reinvested in the squad is slim.  But even if it was, and even if we identified a replacement, we are simply not the team that sought after players of that level want to come to.
15  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: August 17, 2023, 10:39:09 am
Thinking about it, rather it happened BEFORE they started work, & before we handed over any money...

Very good point. Bit of a near miss there...

I’m praying there are no legs in this rumour... Pinnock is not just our best provider, but he pops up with more than his fair share of goals; some of them out of nothing.  Plus, he seems to be coming back into form right now (was MOM for me last night)

Pinnock tonight

Thought we were absolutely fantastic. Haven't seen us be as good a 'footballing' team in a League One match since the Stuart Gray era.

Tough luck to the 'get it forward' merchants in the crowd who lose their minds every time we make a sideways pass, this is a thousand times better to watch than the hit and hope tactics we've had in this division the last few times we've pitifully attempted to survive in it.

Yes, we lack some cutting edge up front at the moment, and I still think we need a couple of additions - certainly a CAM and another winger or striker.

But I love what we tried to do tonight, and I'd have still been really positive even if we didn't get a result.

+1
19  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Stevenage (h) - Saturday 5 August 2023 on: August 06, 2023, 21:19:32 pm
We were surprised at 8 minutes being added at the end of the first half as there had been no substitutions, no goal celebrations and I'm not sure if the trainers had been on the pitch. It seems time must have been added every time the ball went out of play for a throw in, corner or goal kick.
It was then obvious that time added at the end of the second half would be in excess of this as there would be numerous substitutions which previously 30 seconds was supposed to be added for each one.

I think most of the 8 minutes in the first half came from Steve Evans talking to and subsequent booking...
22 minutes of overall stoppage time does seem extreme however considering at no time was a physio on the pitch...
