1  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Derby County (h) 23.3.24 on: March 24, 2024, 11:32:11 am
As said I rarely look at away team fans forums anyway and certainly do not have enough to time (or care) to read any of their pre-match thoughts.  Good for any of you who have the keenness to go to those lengths. I've viewed and am only commenting on the 'post-match' thread and the histrionics being demonstrated by some of their number. I found many of the views, interesting, funny, sad, ridiculous all at the same time.  A good read - that is my only comment.

If you've got the time (or the inclination come to that), have a read of the DCFC Fans Forum.  Comments spread to 52 odd pages currently and it will no doubt give a smile.  Amongst many descriptions of us, we were apparently, 's***', 'pathetic', 'hapless', 's***-housers' (a term I'd never come across before), and not worthy to be on the same pitch as the mighty Rams.  Why, it is questioned, do they have to play such 'tinpot' clubs? One post even queries if the pitch had been specifically prepared to aid the way we wanted to play - it was apparently very rough and 'bobbly' so did not suit their silky, fast passing game? The ref? well he comes in for quite a bit of criticism as you might expect not just for the goal but for allowing our players to go down so often in the second half and stopping the flow of the game. Many agree that their centre half deserved his punishment at the end but even then some feel it will be overturned on appeal because the NTFC player overacted the injury.  I rarely look at opposition websites and I'm not sure why I did on this occasion, but if they are all as ridiculous as this one when their team has lost to NTFC I might just make it a regular habit.  Oh, by the way, well done lads, a fabulous victory.

We scored three really good goals last night.  What a pity none of the scorers will be with us next season.

Don't collect programmes, but I do have a full collection of the Rothmans Football Year book (and other titles through the years), all 54 versions to date.  They tell me:
There were 3 matches against Waterlooville to settle the first round tie:  Northampton 1, Waterlooville 1 (2626): First replay Waterlooville 1, Northampton 1 (3500),  I remember attending this game and found myself sitting next to Lawrie McMenemy who was then the Southampton manager.  Second replay after we won the toss of a coin to decide the venue, Northampton 2, Waterlooville 0 (3354).   The next round we played the first game at the County Ground. Northampton 1, Telford 1 (3963) and then lost the replay at Telford 2-3 (3320).  Just love sitting ang flicking through these old Rothmans!!

Was looking at the fixtures for tomorrow and noticed that Stevenage have a very difficult looking game at Portsmouth.  Now, I like to see the best in everyone but it could not help come to mind that their game on Friday evening was abandoned due to a 'power failure' and I could not help wondering therefore if this was another addition to the Steve Evans 'Dirty Tricks in Football' book.  No game on Friday would leave his players a little more refreshed and recovered before arguably the most difficult game they could face on New Years Day.  No, abandon that thought not even Steve Evans could have possibly organised a power failure .... could he??

Went to see Barnet v Gateshead. They have a real nice set up at there not so new place now but it was not their day on the pitch. A bit of a smash and grab by Gateshead but it made for an entertaining game certainly for a neutral although the home fans were somewhat frustrated. Be good to see Barnet back in the EFL, I hope they can make it.

I'm well aware of the issues surrounding AFC Fylde as my son lives very close by. Fortunately I carry no judgemental issues with any other side, not MK Dons, Posh, Salford, nor Fylde or any other team. I shall enjoy visiting a new ground and simply watching a game. I thought that was what football was all about.

Quite right Evers, we run with current management and hope for the best. Was I a bit down last week but encouraged by the Wigan display. Felt we deserved something from the game. Stayed north with family after the game and will not be at Sixfields this evening. Going instead to watch AFC Fylde in Vanarama. Watch a lot of non league but this will be a new ground for me.
10  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Parking on: August 06, 2023, 20:01:42 pm
There were quite a number of cars carrying Stevenage supporters in the North car park, indeed one such parked next to me!.  Presumably they had paid to enter the car park but if that is then stopping pass holders from claiming the place they have already paid for then something must be done.

Well its dark outside now but as I look through my window and across the town I can clearly see the dawning of yet another false dawn breaking over Sixfields.  The better team deservedly won and our second half performance - regardless of any reasons or excuses - was dreadful.

The new Greta Van Fleet album 'Starcatcher' is perhaps the best album I've ever heard.  What an incredible band, what a singer.  So looking forward to seeing them in Manchester in the autumn.

I have never bought a replica shirt in my life so that probably prohibits me from commenting, but to be honest I'm not a bit bothered what the shirt is like (home or away), providing they perform well and win matches they can play in 'skins' for all I care.

Absolutely nothing today. After seeing fabulous performances from The Darkness and Guns n Roses at Hyde Park yesterday I need a quieter day!

What's on my stereo?  The new album 'Distant Symphonies' from Def Leppard with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Simply stunning.
16  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Summer Transfer Window 2023 on: May 14, 2023, 09:17:49 am
I feel with the promotion of Notts Co yesterday the need to move quickly on some possible signings may become even more essential.  I'm so glad we have got promoted this year as I would not want to be in Div Two next term.  I fully believe Wrexham and Notts Co will both secure further promotions (hence they will be signing quality players asap), which in reality only leaves 2 promotion places (1 automatic and 1 through play-offs).  There will be plenty of teams chasing these - all 3 losing play-off teams from this year as a starter but you can probably add Mansfield to that and maybe even relegated Accrington. It could be a very hard division to get out of next season.
17  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Automatic Promotion on: May 01, 2023, 10:06:47 am
I saw a post on the Stockport fans forum on Saturday evening which suggested that their club should make a £100k offer to the Tranmere squad (for them to distribute as they liked) as an incentive to ensue NTFC do not beat them.  We can't be victims of 'dirty tricks' two years on the trot - can we?
18  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The Rise of Sam Hoskins on: March 28, 2023, 10:46:43 am
The new edition of the magazine  'Four Four Two' has listed 'The Best 50 Players' outside the premier league.  Like the club badges item in the last edition all a bit arbitrary, but still good to see Sam being listed at 'Number 34' and in so being has been rated as the best Division Two player.  Good for him.
19  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Doncaster Rovers(a) - Saturday 25 March 2023 on: March 22, 2023, 12:29:48 pm
Could anyone please enlighten me as to the rules for calling off a game for 'international call-up' reasons.  I see the Crewe v Bradford game is off on Saturday for that reason yet we with apparently two 'call-ups' this weekend still have to play the game at Doncaster.  What is the criteria for such postponements please?
20  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Failed Cobblers managers! on: March 17, 2023, 12:27:17 pm
I watch a lot of National League football (and have done for many years) and have been lucky enough to see Wrexham live 4 times this season.  I will state that in my humble opinion they are by far the best side outside the EFL I've ever seen.  I seriously believe they will be a Championship side within two seasons.  I expect them to walk Division Two next year and more than likely go straight through Division One the following season as well.  Just to add a little more doubt onto our chances next year should we stay in our current league I think that Notts Co. are not very far behind Wrexham (seen Notts Co twice this season) and although I think they might have to go through the play-offs they will be a major force in Div 2 next season as well.  I add that I'm not a Wrexham supporter nor have any Welsh connections - just stating what I've witnessed and conclusions arrived at.
