Anyone else at all concerned of their zero points so far?!
2  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The 'Clare Balding' POTS: Cambridge United (h) 18/08/2018 on: August 18, 2018, 22:52:32 pm
Close call but will go with van Veen - maximum effort along with the goals.
3  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: NTFC Ladies on: August 17, 2018, 12:52:47 pm
Bumping this one - the Cobblers Ladies begin their campaign at Sixfields on Sunday, September 16 with FREE admission. Kick off at 2pm I believe.

Hopefully a chance to raise the profile of the Ladies' team - the attendance will hopefully top any Checkatrade Trophy attendances!

McWilliams has become more important than JJOT to this time IMO. If he's fit and ready to go and we're sticking with 4-4-2 I'd even go as far as to say I'd prefer him and Crooks centrally with JJOT from the bench!

Let's get those first three points then!

Nine goals conceded by Cambridge so far but an excellent 3-2 win over Notts County last weekend.

Now that we have most of the squad fit, I'll go with:

Williams would feel unfortunate I think but just feel that we need to try the Kev and Junior partnership.
7  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Dean Austin on: August 15, 2018, 10:21:05 am
Calm down, folks, we're three games in!

Take into account the fixtures so far for a second -

Lincoln: experienced, promotion contenders for sure, manager who knows what he's doing, quality all over the park. They had one real chance and scored from it and better finishing would have won it for it let alone earned a point.

Carlisle: Decent enough point away from home.

Wycombe: League One side and a draw after 90 mins after recovering from a penalty miss to get back into the tie.

Austin is still learning the ropes and we have to give him time to learn how to be a manager. It will be tough at times with a few results in a row probably going against him but how else will he learn? Very harsh to be jumping on his back at this stage IMO. Let him find an identity for the club - it might mean a mid-table finish but if we can start enjoying going to games again then it's step one of a decent plan.

Bit harsh to have a go at Ward based on the shoot out - fair enough if he's had a shocker for the rest of the game but do we really now expect keepers to be saving most of the pens?

Set pieces are looking a real problem at the moment and in this division that's a worry. No certain corner/free kick/penalty taker (though I can imagine Morias will take spot kicks eventually) in the side could cost us big chances to score.

Ward having a decent game so far it seems.

Cue a fumble...
10  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Quest hd on: August 14, 2018, 15:35:32 pm
A few teething problems with Quest so far...the L2 goals were left off the app for a couple of days this week.

If they can iron out the glitches and get a happier looking studio to present in it should be on a par (not that it's a great par) with the Channel 5 version.
11  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Kevin van Veen on: August 14, 2018, 15:34:10 pm
Happy to give KvV a clean slate - he could become the new JJOT as a surprise hit after looking certain to go. We need him motivated week in, week out and if that happens he could be a great link to Morias.

Got a sneaky feeling for a Town win here with Junior off the bench to nick the winner.

Assume we'll see Ward, Foley, Waters and Facey play, possibly Bowditch too.

1-0 Cobblers.
13  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Ins and Outs - Summer 2018 on: August 04, 2018, 10:05:51 am
You can't fault Hoskins for effort - he epitomized the new mood under Austin and the performance against Plymouth stands out. That type of battle he shows will get him a long way and I don't think you can solely look at his goal scoring stats for reasons to include him. Big John Gayle was never prolific (and obviously a completely different player!) but the amount of goals he made for others who found space because of his presence was unquestionable.

Hoskins brings in others in the completely opposite way and I'm convinced he has goals in him but his work for the team shouldn't be overlooked.

Very well thought out and presented. Thanks Larry

Thanks  Smiley

Short on time but hopefully capturing the basics. Part Three up now!
15  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Ins and Outs - Summer 2018 on: August 02, 2018, 12:13:18 pm
I feel like the way he uses his wide players is a bit different as well though (maybe through necessity!) with Waters/Hoskins/Powell etc seen as more of an inside forward than an out and out winger.

I reckon we'll be ok.

I've started a preview on the blog if anyone is interested in arguing where/how teams will finish and how they look.
19  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Squad Numbers 2018/19 Season on: August 02, 2018, 12:04:43 pm
Never take any notice of squad numbers at club level - though it does appear that Ward and Cornell will be having a closer battle than I originally thought.
20  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Ins and Outs - Summer 2018 on: August 02, 2018, 12:02:27 pm
It's definitely a nice to change to see signings that come 'out of nowhere' rather than those being talked up all the time. I like that Austin never wants to discuss players from other clubs too...that will make him highly thought of in the long terms by other managers doing business with us.

He's unlikely to be screaming that he desperately needs a winger...he seems pretty loyal to his players and I still think there could be at least one more coming in by next week.
