Blackburn go 2 up against Bury. That should be done and dusted..

Part one of the trilogy in the bag!

Garibaldi?
3  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Oxford. on: Yesterday at 10:08:52
Three points needed. Oxford are falling like a stone having taken only 3 points from their last 6 games. .

This part worries me...

Another mid week game thrown in for Rochdale after yesterday's cup heroics...surely they'll run out of legs eventually? MK have a couple of big ones coming up and if they don't win either I think they'll be on their way.

Still far too close for comfort, though, and I don't share the optimism about the Oxford game, especially being at home!

Tim got the first five but had to be reminded of Tisdale.

I think I heard them realising the mistake later on when someone mentioned Tisdale as well!

Nah. He's one of the only players we have with a bit of trickery. Just have to accept that he is a nutcase.

My over riding concern is that JFH STILL has no clue what his best team is, no clue what his best formation is and still hasn't given us an identity.

I know "identity" is a bit of a football phrase, it rings true though. You can look at teams and usually define them, take Gillingham last night, move the ball quickly, pressed lots and played the ball in behind constantly. Oxford, passing game but give you time on the ball etc etc. Ours is what? Chaos!

I play a bit of five a side and we seem like an enlarged version of that - no midfield positions and everyone just running around trying to get the ball. You're right about the identity problem, we absolutely haven't got one.

Is Hilda too much of a liability now he has been sent off FIVE times in 26 matches?

I'd use him sparingly as an impact sub but only that at the moment.
8  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / The death of the midfield general...? on: February 14, 2018, 10:00:09 am
It’s struck me over the course of this season that we are completely missing a midfield general in the middle of the pitch, someone who can take charge and actually shout orders and get people into position.

Never was that more evident than last night’s woeful first half display and I was left wondering whether that type of player is just getting harder and harder to find or whether JFH  just doesn’t want a player like that in his side when he can instead wave his arms around on the side to get players to do what he wants them to do.

I wonder if McWilliams might evolve into someone like this but if he’s not playing then it’ll obviously be impossible to say! JFH seems to be from the Arsene Wenger school of thought in recent years – buying individuals for midfield positions rather than thinking of how they will actually work as a unit.

We need that unsung hero, scrappy, bruiser, especially for the relegation battle we’re in (though from last night you’d never tell we were in one based on some performances)
So, is it a dying art or is Jimmy just not interested in that type?

Echo what has already been said - clearly JJOT winning a monthly award for his performances in the number ten role wasn't enough! He looks laboured and not interested in the deeper role and I'd have much preferred McWilliams in there with JJOT pushed up. The whole ground could see it!

Other than that we were abysmal first half and the midfield didn't have a clue. Fair play to Gills for sussing us out from the off but we were all over the place. JFH still cones across as tactically inept and even the second half, when things got better, it seemed more out of a 'throw everything up the wall and hope it sticks' method.

It's going to the wire folks!

Only one player from the championship season? Disgraceful.

Good point! Considering we'd won every game in November and all but one (draw) in February you'd have thought we'd have had at least a couple more. Though Wilder did win MOTM in all three of those months.

Now the question is...when/who will be the next Cobbler winning a monthly?!

Grin That must have been a pretty barren month elsewhere!

I seem to remember pretty much every 'Kid for a quid' match ending in a dire game that likely killed off our future generations of fans for good!
13  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Gilly @ Home 13th Feb on: February 13, 2018, 10:42:17 am
I can see a bit of tinkering here...wouldn't be surprised to see JJOT rested from the start and KvV and Long start together for the first time.

Likely to be a tricky evening ahead - let's hope the cold and the televised goings on in Europe don't keep too many punters away.

5 more wins should do it? We'll need more than that to make the play offs

Sorry, typo, should have said 15.
15  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Wimbledon (a) on: February 10, 2018, 17:01:41 pm
Oldham host MK on Tuesday night, Wimbledon go to Plymouth and Blackpool, who are right back in it, are at Wigan.

Wunderbar! Five wins from the last 14 games should do it now.

The Donkeys now behind  Grin

Strangely comfortable for Town...this could be a huge set of results...

Three! And all from players up a lot of debate about their places this season.

Just as Blackburn make it 2-2 against Oldham with plenty of time to win it...
19  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Wimbledon (a) on: February 10, 2018, 16:26:29 pm
Get in there!

Goal back for Blackburn against Oldham...
