The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Brady Bunch v Barrow Boys

Pretty inept overall performance last night. Longstanding concern since Wilder days that we don't possess a striker capable of scoring goals.Etete was looking promising but that's another story now. Seems light years away now since I watched the Cobblers completely outplay Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park last autumn. The only way at the moment that the Cobblers are likely to make the play offs is if they continue to keep clean sheets and Guthrie and Horsfall contribute from set pieces. As usual Mark Cooper's tactics were painful to watch, clearly he has picked these tactics up from the time when his father Terry played for Don Revie at Leeds, his attitude appears to be that the means justifies the end product. His goalkeeper last night was a classic example of how to slow things down and frustrate the opposition.

First time I have seen the Cobblers live since Covid. An outstanding team performance and the pressing of the opposition particularly in the 2nd half was very impressive and Tranmere were shot to pieces in the 2nd half and could easily have lost the game 4 nil. Etete was outstanding and the defence superb, two areas of the pitch greatly improved since Jon Brady took over. The match stats show how dominant the Cobblers were in today's game and blow out of the water Micky Mellon's attempt to use the Ref as the reason his team lost today whilst totally ignoring the gamesmanship tactics of his players particularly Clarke and Spearing who were constantly in the ref's ear.

This talk about Jones and Watson is getting boring, they will both be gone before the start of next season , if they have admirers higher up the Footie Pyramid then they will be off like with the Oliver situation last season money talks and Cobblers track record of late in competing against other clubs for players signatures is poor. Just accept the situation and move on.

just caring about the club is not enough to change the approach to running the club.It is a Catch 22 Situation and always will be until some honest and wealthy benefactor comes along and runs the club in the right way. Brady has no track record on player recruitment and this is where the greatest weakness area is with the Cobblers and has been so for a long time at least back to the times of Graham Carr.

There are worrying signs KC has lost the dressing room and in the past this has prompted KT to give the incumbent manger the chop .Things look bleak for KC at the moment but in the past after abysmal away performances KC has come up trumps e.g. last season after heavy defeats at Crawley and Sc***horpe. Unless he reproduces this type of turn around quickly then it looks likely he will get the push in early January. One can argue we are not so much in Curles hands at the moment but how the fancy takes KT and his track record in appointing mangers during his reign as Cobblers chairman does not stand up very well so what confidence should Cobblers supporters have in KTs decision making.

Yet another chance for Artell to get off his chest his distaste for hoof ball and time wasting.Last season I sat behind Artel in the main stand both at Sixfields and the previous year at Gresty Road and all afternoon on both occasions he spent the whole of the afternoon complaining about the Cobblers in the ear of the 4th official. He thinks he is the Special One of the lower leagues and hence it gives me great pleasure when the Cobblers turn over one of his teams.Lets hope Ricky starts the game and has one of his marque performances which is nothing to do with hoof ball.

At long last Bungle's post places a wealth of realism on this site, as usual I keep my powder dry about being positive about KC for fear of the doom mongers letting rip on this site.

Yes I agree this Tim O love affair is getting boring and embarrassing I bet Holmes cringes at the thought of it. It is not in the psyche of Radio Noddy commentators/experts to ask searching questions- hark back to the days of Cardoza to remind yourselves how weak the local media were in getting to the truth of what was going on at the time at Sixields.

My comment to suggest Calderwood might be a possible replacement for Curle is not to say I think he will do a particularly better job than Curle its just that with KTs track record apart from last season his choice of replacement managers has been underwhelming.

We have been in a financial pickle ever since the Cardoza fiasco and this has not stopped KT from sacking and having to pay off 4 managers in that period.Whilst I accept the Covid situation makes things more difficult for KT I don't think he would hold back on giving Curle the chop if he felt we were likely to get relegated under his tenure.

If KT pulls the trigger I agree that based on KTs previous track record Calderwood is his likely choice , the only thing decent to come out of yesterdays game was the post match interview of Sheehan, another possible managerial option?

One thing is for sure with a John Coleman side they will deploy all the old school dark art tricks that KC is not enamoured with- time wasting, histrionics, ref whingeing, and kicking the ball into row Z. If we do get turned over I hope KCs post match interview does not end up with him slating the opposition's tactics, perhaps if we had manned up more at Oxford City we might still have been in the FA Cup. On balance I will bank on on KCs past track record at the Cobblers and back him to come up with the goods after a previous dire performance and in a way it might does us a favour to play against a team playing with the dark arts.

My pre season thoughts on the season ahead, I am not a regular poster on this site because of the negativity which abounds here.KC is the best fit as a manager that the Cobblers have had since Wilder- fact.
He works on a restricted budget and has good track record in getting the best out of an otherwise average player e.g. Vadaine Oliver, Charlie Goode, Ryan Watson. There will inevitably be some signings that will not turn out well but that is part and parcel of managing a club at Div 1/2 level.
Compare KCs track record on expenditure and quality of players with those signed by Page, and Hasselbaink-fact not self opinion.
KCsigns players with a view as to how they will fit into the overall team dynamics and team ethic not just signing players based on their CV and status eg Ash Taylor and Von Veen.
I would point the Doommongers on this site in the direction of Wycombe to show what can be achieved at this level by the effective use of limited resource and applying the virtues of team players.
I will keep my powder dry on this site until the end of the season and let the general negativity about KC on this site blow over my head.

Obvious as the day is long, behind closed doors is going to be the norm for the foreseeable future. Like the crack about the over 70s, every time I attend a Cobblers away game the over 70s are in the majority hence why there is so much nostalgia and negativity about the club. it is not just away from home but at home as well where in the West Stand in particular the over 70s whinge to their hearts content.

A couple of key issues emerging from todays surrender- why not play Marshall, why sub Morton,Cornell starting to let in some soft goals.Unless we can beat the teams above us in the six pointer games coming up before the end of the season then we can kiss good bye to auto promotion. At least the positive thing is we are creating chances and if there is a realistic possibility of McCormack and the Arsenal loanee returning to match fitness then that might see us over the line.

Watched the game on Tintenet, first half performance OK but second half Swindon bossed it.Midfield was poor in second half, Marshall our best outlet hardly got a sniff in the second half.Seen Morton twice now over 90 mins both last night and at Maccie, he is a bit lightweight for me for this level particularly when he does not have a decent target man to feed off.I would have preferred us to have got a proven target man in the transfer window someone like Rose from Mansfield but I don't know the whole story about our supposed interest in him and why it never materialaised, I guess it was down to money. We will continue to be a difficult team to beat at this level, whether we make the play offs or an auto spot will be down to us putting the ball in the net more regularly, simple as that, if we don't then it will be mid table for us. Arsenal loanee seems to be our best hope of stopping the rot.
