1  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Disappearing Punters? on: Yesterday at 22:41:17
Hopefully so!

Noticable we haven't had 5000 home fans for any game yet this season, we reached that mark 11 times last season and 15 times the season before (out of 23 league games)

Got to hold on to those extra fans....as the two home games against Carlisle and Morecambe in January don't look to be big crowd pullers.
We've lost around 20% of our home fans in the last two years. Back then though was the first season back in League One after a seven year absence after the exhillerating title win, local derbies, big clubs. It's a harder sell now.

Any ideas on the odds for a vV Hat Trick v MKDons or even Swindon?
He was 40/1 on Satdee, another pound wasted. I'm thinking of lumping on Buchanan as an anytime scorer soon. That one's coming.
3  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Disappearing Punters? on: December 17, 2018, 22:34:35 pm
Next two home games should see a sizeable increase in attendance. Swindon on Boxing Day may see an extra 600-700 home fans plus 800-900 away so a near 6,000 gate which should then increase further towards the 6,500 mark against MK.
4  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: December 03, 2018, 22:54:13 pm
Without sounding pedantic, was the emphasise on the loan not news of future East Stand development?
TBH it was early and I'd just woken up so I may have mis-heard. Seen nothing on social media since or heard anything else so who know?!
5  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: December 02, 2018, 08:06:54 am
Radio Northampton news bulletin reports that there will be news announced next week regarding the East Stand. No clues as to what, but it's something (hopefully positive)!!

Having a quick look at Arsenal U18s, and it turns out that their coach, is Ken Gillard, best remembered for getting sent off at Scunny, when they put seven past us.  Grin

arsenalyouth.wordpress.com/2018/10/22/ken-gillard-replaces-kwame-ampadu-as-arsenal-u18s-coach/
I was at the Scunny thrashing, 7-0 in about 1992/93? I don't recall the sending off but I do recall Steve Sherwood being in goal and not being very good! We had beaten Mansfield 5-1 on the previous Tuesday where Steve Terry scored with an audacious chip. We thought we'd cracked it only to get the Scunny hammering.
7  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: F A CUP DRAW on: November 12, 2018, 22:23:22 pm
We haven't missed out on much really. Carlisle at home in the second round not exactly mouth-watering but would have been a good chance of making it to the 3rd round. Oh well. A weekend off on 1st December instead. Can concentrate on putting up the Christmas decs instead.
8  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Crewed. on: November 08, 2018, 22:55:18 pm
I think you're being very kind to their player! I just think it was a shlt ball!! Im sure he was at fault for the second as well being caught in possession.
I can see how a foul could have been given but would have been very weak. I agree with you on the 4th official though, I thought they held the board up and made sure the mangers and subs etc behaved themselves.

Seems we're wrong though... "He assists the referee to control the match in accordance with the Laws of the Game. The referee, however, retains the authority to decide on all points connected with play." I've never seen it where the get involved with incidents such as the Crewe game though and more if there was serious foul play off the ball, mass brawls etc
I'm sure Phil Crossley had a lengthy consultation with the 4th official and linesman in making that awful decision to penalise Eric Sabin rather than send off the Mansfield player in the infamous play-off game.
9  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Mysterious Curle on: November 04, 2018, 21:15:43 pm
I think the stadium DJ misses a trick by not playing it straight after the final whistle when the great man himself is still out there. And maybe we can cut out a bit of the intro so it goes straight to the chorus which is all we're after.

They actually showed more action in our game tonight than normal, sometimes it’s just limited to the goals. Pity we were on last again!
11  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Crewed. on: November 04, 2018, 08:01:31 am
A comfortable, strong and assured performance getting the job done with ruthless efficiency. Curle is proving to be an astute manager. Atmosphere was good from the off, despite the quiet away fans. I sit towards South end and also thought the North Stand was louder than usual. Good to hear.
It's a shame to have a break from the league now and we also have more away matches than home in the next month. It will be a good test as to how far we have come.
12  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Kevin van Veen on: November 02, 2018, 06:30:27 am
Any decent odds love to make a 100 or two £!

Only 40/1 with Hills. I usually do it along with my other standard bet which also never comes in - BTTS in all 3pm Conference (National League games), that’s about 1200/1 this week.

Time for a Van Veen hatrick me thinks........

Being from Nantwich and having lived in Cheshire for my very early years my first three or four professional games watched were all Crewe v Northampton or Northampton v Crewe games when my Grandad would take me to the footy.

always have a soft spot for my "home town team"

We've only lost two of the last 8 games against them, but before that they were a bogey side as we failed to beat them in 12 games (1991-2008)

Nantwich hey? My wife hails from Tarporley, Cheshire. Do you know it? Her Dad still lives there so we visit the area. Been to Nantwich a few times. Nice small town. They're not so keen on "spewey Crewey"! They prefer Chester.

Terry Fleming made his playing debut for Matlock Town tonight. He's their assistant manager but they've an injury crisis so had to register as a player. He is 45. Was a decent player in a poor side when with us in the early '90's.
I also see that Leon Lobjoit is with Northampton Sileby Rangers and scored a couple last week.
16  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Disappearing Punters? on: October 28, 2018, 09:38:57 am
Disappointingly 400 down on last home game despite the upturn in form. End of half term maybe a reason with people away and also less in the East Stand, again maybe a schools thing. Hopefully we will see a few return next week despite the opposition hardly being attractive.
17  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Hold Em Steady (For the Mods, this is about Northampton v Oldham) on: October 28, 2018, 09:34:40 am
Despite all of mine and most others moaning/complaining about the terrible ref which dictated the game I actually enjoy those sort of games once in a while. We’ve seen them before and it creates a seige mentality on and off the pitch with noise levels greatly increased. Credit to all players for defending stoutly and to the manager for his tactical nous during the game and to the fans for the noisy support. Next week v Crewe, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a totally different game - quiet but pleasing football from both sides.

Not half as much as Uriah Rennie did.
Mansfield play-off game anybody?

Phil Crossley was the ref for the Mansfield play off game. Spectacularly got key decisions wrong. Rennie was in charge of the 97 semi home to Cardiff who enjoyed sending of one of their players.
19  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Hold Em Steady (For the Mods, this is about Northampton v Oldham) on: October 27, 2018, 18:36:58 pm
Brilliant battling performance against the 11 men of Oldham and Mr Breakspear who managed to deliver another atrocious refereeing display. Pete Walton on the radio defended him saying he only gave what he saw and didn’t think it was a terrible referee, although did question one or two decisions or rather non-decisions. Had we not won that game Breakspear would have been lynched.
But positively we’ve won 3 out of 4 now. Pity about last weeks performance and result at MK. The Crewe game will probs my be a better footballing display. Another win and maybe I’ll start mentioning the “P” word.
