1  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Where are the goals going to come from? on: Yesterday at 21:22:42
Thanks for the info Wadey but after 20 mins I began to lose concentration. May I suggest you present the info on a  spread sheet and then copy/paste on here. Typing stats like these on a Forum Web site more often than not lose their shape so to speak. I lost another tenner on van Veen to score 3 yesterday Cry

Ive stopped doing the Van Veen hat trick. I have no other tips just yet you'll be pleased to kNow  Tongue

Need Alan Turing to make sense of that!  Wink

The format was more structured before I posted it (honest)!
3  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Where are the goals going to come from? on: Yesterday at 12:19:40
I've just been doing some quick statistical analysis of our squad and the number of goals they have scored for us as it feels like we don't have enough goals in us. Looking at the League form so far and goals scored that probably sounds obvious anyway. Of the main 19 outfield players to have played at some stage this season their total goals scored for us is 75 in 842 appearances (including as a playing sub). I admit that this stat may be skewed by say Buchs who has 152 appearances and has only once troubled an opposing goalkeeper. But breaking it down, player by player it isn't great reading.
Some haven't scored (hence the formula issue) but by predicting the number of games each player will play and based on their goal history for us, I have created my own Expected Goals figure for each player and come up with a total of just 42. That won't get us far.

I know you can do anything with statistics to support a certain argument and this can be criticised, but I was bored on a wet dreary Sunday morning.

Bury up next on a Tuesday night. The first sub-4000 home League crowd in years I would expect. In fact it could well fall below 4,000 including away fans.
5  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Letís create an atmosphere. on: September 22, 2018, 22:59:42 pm
I thought the atmosphere was very quiet for large parts with a few bouts of singing/clapping but there wasn't much to get us going and Notts fans were very quiet too. The boos at the end were quite loud and perhaps a little surprising because it wasn't THAT bad today but I guess months of not winning or scoring many goals does that to a fan. The ref got plenty of stick too who was rank.
6  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Nobbled By The Notts 22nd Sept on: September 22, 2018, 22:54:20 pm
It was a fairly joyless encounter with the best part of the day being the playing of Chas & Dave's There ain't no pleasing you, at half time.
7  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Nobbled By The Notts 22nd Sept on: September 19, 2018, 22:11:48 pm
This could be a season defining game - a win could lift us 7 points clear of the bottom two and give everyone the confidence boost to push on. Defeat however, will leave us tetering on the brink of a relegation scrap.
8  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Nobbled By The Notts 22nd Sept on: September 16, 2018, 11:50:59 am
So, Notts haven't won all season and concede on average 3 goals a game. This is surely a shoe-in for a convincing home victory which has been coming all season ( so they tell us).............or we'll do the usual Cobblers thing and hand them the 3 points. What odds on a County victory? Could be tempting.
9  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Redevelopment Closer Than Ever? on: September 12, 2018, 22:24:45 pm
Only breaking even if the money men prop us up. Our large squads wage bill will need bigger crowds than 4,600 to pay for them.
10  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Dean Austin on: September 08, 2018, 22:49:10 pm
Must admit have some grave doubts on DA. Thought that Facey had a poor game. Recall Turnbull and Barnet! JJOT looks shot. Lost £10  on vV at 33/1 for hat trick!Thks WadeyCobbler 😎

Apologies for the betting tips  Huh?
11  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Disappearing Punters? on: September 08, 2018, 22:46:05 pm
Surprised to see an increase from the Tranmere game today and only just short of the Cambridge figure. More school kids in the East I guess.

I sit West Upper towards the South but not amongst the singers, there's a young chap with a beard with the loudest clap I've ever heard and will always shout 'sake' when something goes wrong (quite often).
13  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Rocking The Robins on: September 07, 2018, 22:12:36 pm
I was wrong on the Van Veen hat trick odds. Only 33/1 with my usual bookie, Hills. He was 90/1 vs Cambridge, I did it then and he scored twice. Was 65/1 last week, didn't score, now 33/1. Interesting. It's all a bit of fun, small change betting.
14  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: The return of #SellOutSixfields on: September 07, 2018, 22:06:44 pm
I'm in, I'll do my bit to get some extras there and promote it on Twitter.
15  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Rocking The Robins on: September 06, 2018, 22:03:14 pm
5 - 0 66/1
6 - 0 200/1

And the Van Veen hattrick 65/1
16  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Rocking The Robins on: September 05, 2018, 21:54:56 pm
If we keep creating chances like we have done all season then somebody should get a good beating. I'm predicting us hitting 5 or 6 goals on Satdee as the season takes off with a bang. Van Veen hat-trick too. Get down the bookies.

I stab at them with the brush.

The introduction of the U21 Prem teams spoils it and I haven't been since. However I am tempted now because of the chance to see some of our squad players/youngsters. We have a good large squad and could actually go far in this comp this season.
19  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Disappearing Punters? on: September 03, 2018, 22:46:24 pm
We missed an opportunity to increase the fan base by not having a big enough to capacity to capitalise on the 2016 league title success. We went 31 games unbeaten in the end. But because of our limited income streams we couldn't keep hold of our manager or better players. And then the rot creeps in and we end up back to where we always do, playing these small, less attractive clubs.
Win a few games and the numbers will rise a bit but there is a feeling of apathy around with no motivation from our chairman to get people up there to share in his vision -because we don't know what it is.
I'm a season ticket holder, been a regular for 32 years and enjoyed what I witnessed on Saturday but trying to talk the floaters back isn't easy.
20  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Disappearing Punters? on: September 02, 2018, 22:19:07 pm
Saturday vs Cheltenham will see the lowest Saturday attendance for some years. Schools only going back this week so probably too soon to arrange big groups to fill out the East Stand, our league position isn't good and the non-league sounding opposition won't attract the floaters or fill the South Stand. Could be looking at 4,500 max. This despite the fact that our football is more pleasing on the eye and we are due to give somebody a mauling. KT was right, we don't need to expand the capacity.........
