Over 12,000 at Notts and Carlisle did a 10kforMK campaign which did succeed in attracting over 10k at Brunton Park, fair play to both clubs. A lower table clash against Crawley doesn't pull in the punters. Even in our title winning season I'm sure we only got just over 5,000 against them just after we'd won the title. These poorly supported ex non-league clubs are no attraction.
742  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Season Tickets 2019/2020 on: February 17, 2019, 21:38:05 pm
Been going for 33 years so why stop now? Yes the current situation is a bit depressing but it's been worse. We get some great seasons very occasionally which makes the pain worth it when the good times do come around. The gauling thing is we never capitalise on any success and it is always short term. How we let that Wilder team disintegrate was abysmally bad management.
743  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Views on Keith Curle on: February 17, 2019, 21:24:20 pm
Yesterday was a right old turgid game, left me wondering why I bother. However, how many of us would have preferred to see us lose an entertaining game 2-3 rather than 'gain' another point?
744  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: When we are safe! on: February 17, 2019, 21:20:15 pm
We are not safe. Probably need another 11 or 12 points. Notts will get out of it. 7 or 8 teams in the mix with us still being one of them. Yeovil look ripe for it at the minute. Macc picking up results, Por Vale look in a bad way too. I am not massively worried but some tricky fixtures ahead of us. Complacency not needed.
745  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Crewe Alexandra (a) March 2nd on: February 17, 2019, 21:16:15 pm
Anyone making a long day or weekend of it should visit the village of Tarporley about 10 miles from Crewe, and have a couple of decent Robinson's ales in The Rising Sun. Recently refurbished pub that also does excellent food. Also the Swan Hotel keeps some good local ales. My father-in-law still lives in the village. Try it, you'll like it.
746  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Crawley Town (h) 16th February on: February 16, 2019, 16:52:41 pm
That was dull dull dull. Defensively solid but zero creativity or attacking flair and no strikers until the last 5 minutes. All so predictable when the team was announced. I wish I’d stayed at home and cut the lawn.
747  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Crawley Town (h) 16th February on: February 16, 2019, 06:36:17 am
Crawley allocated 170  Shocked tickets for tomorrows game, and they haven't sold them all (as of 12th Feb).

Another ex non-league club with poor support which is what you get in League Two these days which damages our income and and it's not a fixture to get the juices flowing.
Interesting that we have scored the most goals from corners for any League Two side this season, 10 in all. That stat surprised me. I never saw that as one of our strong points, certainly not seeing us as a set piece side like the old Ian Atkins teams.
748  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Crawley Town (h) 16th February on: February 14, 2019, 21:48:08 pm
I'd imagine we'll see a starting place for Morias but with whom? No Sordell and Andy Williams seems out of favour and I can't see a Hoskins/Morias partnership. We should be good enough to beat these though, but I do always wonder where the goals will come from, however we have scored in 21 of our last 22 games interestingly.
749  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: TRANMERE on: February 05, 2019, 21:46:25 pm
A lesson learnt tonight, not to be too reactionary after one result, bad or good. i tried to keep a level head after Satdee but got drawn into all the doom and gloom. I'm chuffed with tonight's result but won't be calling KC or Hoskns the messiahs. It is a great result however in the context of the season. If we can pick up any kind of result at Lincoln it would be a massive bonus.
Fair play to the loyal travelling contingent tonight. You got your just rewards.
750  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Col U.....Saturday on: February 03, 2019, 11:00:29 am
KC may have a point about "fine margins" when you look at the bare stats - similar number of shots / possession, but they tore us apart at will in that second half with pace. purpose and precision, 3 things we do not have. We have no fluidity about our play and everything looks hard work and clunky. Sordell was no no doubt rusty yesterday but doesn't look like the "focal point" of attack that KC was talking about midweek and his efforts on goal backed up his goalscoring stats, 9 goals in 73 apps for Burton. Morais was equally wasteful yesterday. Elsnick after his MOM performance last week was largely anonymous, O'Toole coming straight back in after months out seemed odd. McWilliams had some bite. Bridge isn't a wing-back and Facey looks shot to pieces. Goode was no improvement on Jay Williams. Add the bumbling Ash Taylor into the mix and Cornell who rarely makes saves a la the Col U keeper then it is worrying times. KC when he first came in played things sensibly and we looked quite solid, now we're wide open just like under previous managers.  The next two games could see similar results unless he stumbles across a formation and team selection that just works, like it has done in some matches under his watch but this current 3-5-2 with the personnel we have doesn't.
751  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Col U.....Saturday on: February 01, 2019, 15:37:51 pm
pretty sure the match will be on. Frost covers have done their job so far and are on again tonight. Overnight lows of around 0c to -1c and up to 4 or 5c tomorrow.
As for our line-up/formation, that's anyone's guess. Can't see Sordell starting as lacking match practice. Hopefully have at least one or two of Foley, McWilliams or O'Toole in the squad. I'll predict a draw (another one) to keep the long unbeaten home record in tact.
752  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Disappearing Punters? on: January 28, 2019, 21:07:42 pm
We've lost around 500 home fans since relegation last season, at £20 a head that's £10,000 per game, £123,000 over the season. Plus probably a similar amount of away fans (Morecambe brought just 96)! So almost £250,000 down this season in gate receipts alone. Add on to that possible, parking, programmes, food, drink, merchandise; it's a significant drop in income.
753  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Disappearing Punters? on: January 21, 2019, 20:57:23 pm
That's the risk - a dire performance and the extras don't return! It's a pity with Morecambe in town and only likely to bring 150-200 fans which could be put in the East Stand corner, that we couldn't do a South Stand Special deal for home fans of some sort.
754  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Views on Keith Curle on: January 21, 2019, 18:23:45 pm
When Curlio took over we were relegation fodder.

After the initial bounce where we looked like we could actually be play off candidates, we've had a clear out (honestly don't know who's decision that was but tend to think it was more about money so maybe not Curlio's doing) we've settled back to what Northampton Town FC are - a bang average L2 side.

If you think we should be more than this then I think you have to look above the manager. OK, KT came in at the right (or wrong time depending on your disposition) and together with Wilder, not only got us out the cr@p but also gave us that false hope that we could actually be something more than a club that yo-yos between the bottom two tiers.

However, KT and whoever is latest allies are, are in it for one thing - the money. Now they've learned the hard way (rather than looking at every other case where someone has tried to make money out of this club) the rug is being pulled.

So, whilst we all want the best for the club, maybe we just have to accept what we are. Accept that basically, we get one good side every 8 or 9 years a la Carr, Wilder and to a lesser extent Calderwood, Atkins and Boothroyd and just go with it.

This club is a magnet for fools who think it's going to lay them a golden egg.

Until someone comes along with a pot of gold to spend on football and not as a prelude to making on top then this is what we are.

So, my thoughts on Curlio - he's probably doing as well as can be expected and deserves time and patience to see if he can bring on some youngsters and mix them with some astute signings.

That's it really....
It's hard to disagree with this. We've had a carrot dangled of what might be possible for this club a few times only for it to be pulled away each time. Anyone remember DC's 5 year plan to get into the Championship?! My dream is to see us play at that level at least one season before I die. I'm 44 so hopefully got plenty of years to cling on to this hope, but we are really as far away from that target as we have ever been. The biggest, crying shame was how we never capitalised on the magnificent Title-winning side of 2016. At least after 1987 and 1997 and also 2006 we had hope and kept the dream alive for a bit longer before being back to mediocrity.
755  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Disappearing Punters? on: January 21, 2019, 18:13:48 pm
I see Notts County did their annual cheap ticket offer a couple of weekends ago. £2 a ticket and a crowd of 15,000. It didn't necessarily help them and they are further adrift at the bottom than before.
I wonder if we did a similar offer how many we would get? I asked my Dad who is an inactive supporter, last went about 8 or 9 years ago and he said £2 still wouldn't attract him! I guess it would need to be marketed well.
756  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Carlisle United (H)- Saturday 12th January on: January 12, 2019, 21:23:38 pm
What an enjoyable game. I predicted a win but never expected that. All the growing apathy leading up to the game as well. A bright first half and a steam rolling second half. Nobody had a bad game. Players seemingly in their favoured positions and everything just worked. I like that back 3. Must keep Taylor out of this team. Jack Bridge playing in a central role worked a treat. A striker and a creative wide player to compliment what we now have will see us safely mid-table. Tim Oglethorpe was banging on about the play-offs again. I love the bloke but come on, give it a rest!
757  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Carlisle United (H)- Saturday 12th January on: January 12, 2019, 12:34:50 pm
I'll stick my neck out here and say I think we'll win, a scrappy 1-0, goal from Williams in the 5th minute assuming he starts. There, I've said it now.
758  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Carlisle United (H)- Saturday 12th January on: January 09, 2019, 21:19:56 pm
We will pump them 3-0.

It's been over a year since we last scored 3 or more in a home match. We're certainly due it!
759  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: January Window - Rumours, Ins and Outs on: January 03, 2019, 21:33:10 pm
The one good thing to come out of KvV transfer is that I won't have to listen to Tim Oglethorpe calling him Von Vain anymore Grin
The other good thing is I will save a few quid by not betting on him scoring a hatrick every week  Huh?
Having said that, it may be worth a punt on him doing so back at Scunny?!
760  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Disappearing Punters? on: December 18, 2018, 21:41:17 pm
Hopefully so!

Noticable we haven't had 5000 home fans for any game yet this season, we reached that mark 11 times last season and 15 times the season before (out of 23 league games)

Got to hold on to those extra fans....as the two home games against Carlisle and Morecambe in January don't look to be big crowd pullers.
We've lost around 20% of our home fans in the last two years. Back then though was the first season back in League One after a seven year absence after the exhillerating title win, local derbies, big clubs. It's a harder sell now.
