61  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Wycombe (a) Sat. 16th March on: March 16, 2024, 12:08:50 pm
Wycombe have David Wheeler suspended, Saxon Early injured and Garath McCleary is doubtful.

Think JB might go for the tried and trusted today

Better get a thread started for tomorrows game.
Nothing much to choose in historical results as we have 9 wins and Wycombe 10 but the draw has been the most common result with 15. 7 of our 10 defeats have been at home including earlier this season when we lost 0-1 in a game Wycombe hardly deserved a point. So we have only lost 3 of the 16 games at Wycombe with 4 wins and 9 draws and have not lost on any of our last 11 visits, 3 wins and 8 draws.

At home Wycombe have won 7, drawn 6, lost 6, scored 27 and conceded 25 but have only lost 1 of their last 9 home games including beating Peterborough 5-2 with the Posh GK who fumbled Pinnock's goal over the line at fault for 3 of the goals. In the 19 home games they have scored more than once 9 times and failed to score 6 times, defensively they have conceded more than once 8 times and kept 7 clean sheets.

Left back Luke Leahy is their top scorer with 8 goals and in January they brought in our former loan player Beryly Lubala who has so far scored twice and is expected to lead the front line tomorrow.

The referee is Ollie Yates and in 32 games has issued 145 yellows, 6 reds and awarded 10 penalties. Back in August he was in charge of our 2-2 home draw with Lincoln and before that in October 2022 our 0-0 draw at Leyton Orient when he sent off Ben Fox. It would not be disappointing if he made it a hat trick of draws tomorrow to keep up our long unbeaten run at Wycombe. None of our injured are expected back so JB will have the same squad to select from and is expected to revert to a back 4.

Looking on the bright side next year we may have to rename it "automatic promotion watch".
64  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Play-off watch on: March 14, 2024, 17:27:04 pm
Thanks for letting us know, so there is no point in renewing our season tickets. Drop in club revenue all down to Marvo.

I confirm I did not go to Liverpool as I was still working at that time running my own business and the contract I was working on at that time made it impossible. I have been to plenty of others including our cup game at Man City and at Ipswich during Bobby Robson’s reign. I don’t go to all away games as it is not fair on her indoors to give up every Saturday but have been to rather more than just Derby this season.

As a matter of interest why do you always try and shoot other posters with your delusional Marvo knows best attitude?
65  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Ups & downs on: March 14, 2024, 14:08:20 pm
With the season now in the finishing straight which clubs do we want to exit division 1 and who do we want to replace them?

Promotion from div 1. I hope Portsmouth and Derby go up as we cannot compete with them at the moment and either Bolton or Barnsley to join them. Peterborough, Stevenage and Oxford can all stay down.

Relegated from div 1. Not surprisingly Carlisle are making a swift return, Fleetwood with their crooked owner in jail can join them and hopefully Reading with their financial issues. I am not too bothered who
makes up the 4 but would prefer Burton and Cambridge to survive as local clubs but not sure both will as they are both very poor.

Relegated from the Championship. Rotherham coming back down but then 7 teams are within 4 points or 9 within 6 points. Sheffield Wednesday looked as thou they would be coming straight back down but are
staging a recovery and Huddersfield, Birmingham, QPR, Stoke, Blackburn and Plymouth are all in danger. We have a decent record against Plymouth so them +1 other.

Promoted from div 2. I hope big spending Wrexham stay down as I don't like to see them rewarded with instant success and I was pleased Stockport didn't make it last season but they can come up this season,
Mansfield are due a promotion but any team down to mid table still have a chance. MK can stay down and I would prefer any 2 from Crewe, AFC Wimbledon ,Walsall and Gillingham.

It isn't a supporters lack of ambition it is realism by the majority of supporters.
67  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Play-off watch on: March 14, 2024, 13:03:21 pm
Marvo, my reason for going is to support the team instead of sitting on my coach. You are right there are a lot of supporters like me who took the more level headed view of our prospects of even reaching the play offs but our opinions don't effect where we are.
68  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Play-off watch on: March 14, 2024, 12:15:45 pm
KT got it exactly right as there was no point in spending our modest budget in the faint hope of reaching the play offs. Had we got there what chance would we have had overcoming 2 of Portsmouth, Derby, Peterborough, Bolton or Barnsley to get promoted?. Our results against these teams show we are a long way off beating 2 of them even with the addition of a couple more signings in January. Better option was to keep the cash for the summer transfer window when we have to replace Leonard and Bowie.
69  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Blackpool (h) on: March 13, 2024, 19:46:28 pm
I don't think Appere should be judged on last nights performance, the strikers were isolated and received no service. I wouldn't be surprised if he was offered new terms but at the moment not unduly concerned either way.

Would not offer Burge another contract, last season I could not fault him for any goals conceded but he has been responsible for some this season. He has played well under half of the games and we cannot afford a injury prone 'keeper. Bring in another experienced 'keeper with a rookie as back up if necessary but we could just go with 1 as you can always get an emergency loan if needed.

Of our loan players I would not try to get Simpson back as I don't feel he has done enough over the season but been good in patches. Might be worth Trying to get Springett back as he has shown promise in his brief cameos.

A decision has to be made on the short term loans of Willis, Moore and Gape. If Sherring stays we also have Guthrie, Magloire, Monthe contracted not sure about Dyche so it depends how many centre backs JB wants But Willis has been ok and so far Moore. Gape looked decent in his few games but seems to have gone awol.
70  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Blackpool (h) on: March 13, 2024, 12:58:04 pm
I don't think we had 2 defensive wing backs as both Brough and Lintott are better going forward (as Lintott did regularly at Cambridge) than defending. As I said in last nights post in the first half we had no width when attacking as neither wing backs were getting forward and the 2 strikers were isolated as no midfielders were making runs to support them and they became heavily outnumbered.
71  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Blackpool (h) on: March 12, 2024, 22:59:13 pm
Lowest gate of the season, the crowd didn't turn up and neither did the team. Scrappy game decided by the scrappiest of goals, Blackpool edged it but I'm not sure their performance merited the 3 points they certainly didn't look like a play off challenging team. JB changed to a 532 but it was noticeable in the first half than when we attacked we had no width and the front 2 were outnumbered by 5 defenders as nobody was making forward runs from midfield.
As the second half progressed the crowd became increasingly restless with all of the sideways and backwards passing which many times ended with a long ball forward to be won by a defender. Their 'keeper did not have a serious save to make as they defended quite well but we were devoid of ideas. "Fluid football" has been AWOL for several games now.
Not our best week with 1 point out of nine and the point at Cambridge doesn't look as good after the got a 6 goal dicking tonight.
72  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Blackpool (h) on: March 12, 2024, 13:10:28 pm
I imagine Brough will be up against Hamilton who can be dangerous down their right flank but he got no change out of Odimayo up there.
73  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Blackpool (h) on: March 12, 2024, 11:55:20 am
Can we remain unbeaten at home on a Tuesday night?, previous games Lincoln 2-2, Reading 3-1, Orient 2-2 so a 3-1 win keeps the sequence going.

Blackpool manager says we can be dangerous on the break as we have good players at the top end of the pitch, perhaps he doesn't rate our defence.
74  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Derby County (h) 23.3.24 on: March 12, 2024, 11:51:08 am
Tickets are on sale so no cancellation.
75  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Supporters Advisory Board on: March 11, 2024, 20:05:27 pm
Don't have trouble hearing tannoy in the west where we sit.
76  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Blackpool (h) on: March 11, 2024, 20:04:18 pm
At the moment it looks like a low turn out tomorrow night, almost 200 available in the west, almost 100 in the north and loads in the east. Home support on a Tuesday night has not reached 5500 and at the moment sales are a long way short of 5000.
77  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Blackpool (h) on: March 11, 2024, 15:01:17 pm
After our excellent win at Blackpool we have the chance to complete our first ever double over them but they hold the upper hand in historical results with 20 wins to our 11 and 7 games drawn. At home we have 8 wins, 5 draws and 6 defeats but their away record is not that great with 5 wins, 4 draws and 9 defeats and they have fewer away points than we have. Their away results are somewhat strange as their 5 wins include winning at Barnsley, Portsmouth and Peterborough but they have lost at Wycombe, Cambridge, Burton, Port Vale and Cheltenham so don't seem to do as well against the lower placed teams. They have won 2 of their last 3 away games but never had back to back wins and they won their last away game at Shrewsbury.

They have failed to score in 9 of their 18 away games but 6 times have scored more than once, they have 4 clean sheets and 7 times have conceded more than once. Jordan Rhodes is their leading EFL scorer with 15 goals but will be suspended unless he has Saturdays red card overturned, Jake Beesley and Karamoko Dembele each have 6 goals.

James Bell is the referee and in 21 games has issued 84 yellows, 5 reds and awarded 4 penalties it will be the first time he has had the pleasure of our company since March 2022 when we lost 1-2 at Carlisle.
Blackpool are desperate for points to reach the play off places and personally I hope they get them (but not tomorrow night) if it means they edge out Oxford and Stevenage. We may not see any of our injured players return but Pinnock may have recovered from his illness that kept him out on Saturday.
78  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Blackpool (h) on: March 11, 2024, 11:59:16 am
I doubt if Blackpool will sell out the away end, last away game game they took 835 to Shrewsbury and before that only 451 to Peterborough and both were Saturday games.
79  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Cambridge Away 9th March on: March 10, 2024, 14:30:20 pm
No team has gone down in the last 10 seasons with 51 points.

Cambridge fan on their forum said that at half time he passed the away dressing room and JB was having a rant saying it was no way near good enough. Certainly had an effect to our second half performance.
80  The Hotel End / Cobblers Corner / Re: Cambridge Away 9th March on: March 09, 2024, 21:02:58 pm
First half was disappointing and we looked lacklustre, defence cut open far too easily for their goal and fortunately they missed a good chance immediately before the break. Second half we dominated and it was just a matter of time before we scored and after we appeared to be the only side likely to go and win.
