“Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact Marcus Aurelius Roman 2nd Cent Emporer. A great Roman Emp and Stoic.
Stoics weren't bad little lawnmowers back in the 60's and 70's, I doubt if the Romans had them though.

Since the day we appointed Ian Atkins, almost 30 years ago, only three Cobblers managers who have been appointed to get us out of the bottom tier failed to do so. Boothroyd (got us to Wembley), Ian Sampson who in my opinion was sacked prematurely after he lost his first game in 9 and his replacement Gary Johnson, the less said the better. All the rest have succeeded. The aforementioned Atkins, Wilson, Calderwood, Wilder, Curle and Brady. Whoever replaces Brady if we're then in league 2 will get us promoted again, of that I have no doubt. That's why I don't understand this hero worship of Brady, he has done that what was expected from every Cobblers manager when in League 2, got us promoted. Now in League 1, his record is less impressive (so far) than all those named above.
Having said that, I'm not calling for his head, I don't see the point and in all honesty I don't actually care. Whoever is the manager, we will go back down in the next three seasons, then whoever is then appointed will bring us back up again. Good times will roll. There is nothing about our club that suggests this scenario will ever change. We haven't got the financial clout, we haven't got the ground, we haven't got the support base. We are what we are and while we all hope for a miracle, a saviour who will come in and pump millions into the club, well, that hasn't happened in the nearly 70 years I've been alive so I wont hold my breath on that one. Why do you think those that could, Calderwood and Wilder, moved on so quickly? It's because they knew the next step was beyond them.
So stop calling for the managers head, sit back and relax. They'll be another Carr, Calderwood or Wilder era at some point. None of you supporters are in any worse position than any Cobblers in the last 50 years. Sometimes in life you just have to accept things for what they are.
Very good realistic post, which made me smile. Why? It struck me that you normally deal purely in stats, but this post is largely opinions. Despite this you've made a statement that is less contentious than the reams of stats you produce. As I said it made me smile, keep up the good work.

We can have 9 players on the bench for an FA Cup tie if we can find that many with working parts, I doubt if Barrow can as they have only had 6 players on the bench for their last 6 matches.
In other news the Harrogate keeper is out injured for about 3 months and they have just brought in Jonathan Mitchell, the Harrogate manager said he was delighted to get someone of Jonathan's quality.
It's the way you tell 'em! Ask him again in 3 months.

Yes I know that, the point I was making is that they had a good idea the Pompey game would be called off, so didn't sell the tickets. Surely they must have had the same inkling about the Charlton game ?
I guess the answer is that Charlton had already sent us the tickets to sell. Portsmouth was a home game so we decided not to send tickets to them because there was a good chance the game wouldn't happen. As I say just a guess.

I went to our 2 nil win at Barrow in January with an old friend, the one who'd first got me into travelling to away matches. He had endured an awful year of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and said he wanted to celebrate being given the all clear by going on a Cobblers road trip. We chose Barrow and spent two enjoyable days staying in Ulverston, the game wasn't great but it was a win! Very sadly a month later his cancer had returned and a month after that he died. Saturday's game will be very bitter sweet for me, so much more than a cup tie. RIP Ben.

I'll be there with another couple of STH's, hoping for a morale boosting win.
We all know what hope does...
